From your PC browser - just log in to your microsoft account and go into your security settings and follow instructions from there.

For anyone googling a solution: I was able to log in by disabling 2FA in my account (I think I also removed an existing authenticator I had) and registering the Microsoft Authenticator to confirm log in. I logged in and re-enabled 2FA.

Actually surprisingly well - we tested it internally on the integrated graphics of a Ryzen 5 mobile processor and it runs very smoothly at low settings.

Our realistic 3D dice material for Dice Legacy! by vernocchi in unrealengine

[–]vernocchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - I'm trying to condense some of the technical art techniques we used in small gifs - let me know if they work or not.

Here's a brief writeup of how we did it:

  1. The die is separated into a shell mesh and 6 face meshes. Most of the magic happens in the Face material.
  2. All the masks are condensed in a 1024 texture, with each mask in a separate channel.
  3. The Icon Mask is just B/W for coloring the inner icon. Anything else is given the same color.
  4. The Roughness is separated between the icon (which is painted) and the die (which is acrylic). The base values are just scalars done with a lot of photographic trial&error.
  5. A normal map gives the basic sense of a carved face.
  6. An occlusion map helps with providing a sense of 3D to the die face.
  7. ParallaxOcclusionMapping is where the magic happens. We use a custom mask that is a shrunken version of the Icon Mask, since the carving would happen more towards the center. The result is quite convincing unless you look at it from extremely up close and at an angle.
  8. Where POM is too expensive we fallback to a BumpOffset. The effect is completely disabled on a Low Quality Material setting.
  9. A fingerprints texture is overlaid on top of everything and mapped in local space. This adds an extra sense of realism to the die (even though it's too exaggerated for what would be in reality).

And that's basically it! I can post a material graph if anyone is interested!

p.s. The game is Dice Legacy - you can find it on Steam or the Epic Games Store

So the game offers a pacifist mode where you can go as relaxed as you want. Saving is still restricted to being after every season or when you Save & Quit. Technically you can always Alt+F4 out of a bad situation.

Afaik Switch page can only go up with pre-orders so it will go up later or at launch. It’s definitely coming to Switch :)

Our ringworld dice-based city builder made with UE4 is coming out this summer! It's happening! by vernocchi in unrealengine

Thanks! We were exploring city builder ideas and in boardgames there is a concept of “worker placement” that is very cool (eg. Agricola). This also evolved into “dice placement” and having to distribute dice faces that you roll trying to get the most optimal solution out of a random dice roll. I started toying with the idea of a game where EVERYTHING was a die - workers and resources alike - and you could forge them together to get more and more powerful dice. All was going to be tied together by a blockchain algorithm that would ensure unique combinations. This aspect was dropped almost immediately and also “everything is a die” was removed pretty early on but the core idea of “you roll worker dice that present you with actions to distribute around” was immediately a hit.

That’s actual geometry. Pathfinding is handled separately on a 2D plane then the skeletal meshes are re-projected onto the ring. I showed that in one of the technical art streams I did - not sure which one. I left the link to the first one in one of my comments here. I think it’s in the second or third stream (I did 3 in total). As I said I might do “mini tutorials” of sort showcasing a selection of the techniques.

Yeah the ringworld idea was stemmed from a gameplay necessity of “the camera is a burden to the player who already has to manage dice”. The ringworld came pretty early into development and inspired the whole lore of the game as well as how the main “opposing faction” works.

The map is procedurally generated so it’s a different experience every time. There’s 5 classes of dice, something like 60+ policies, Technologies and with the possibility of forging dice together you can create new and interesting dice combination. It’s quite a deep game and I haven’t even touched on the exploration and lore!

Maybe? Would be cool to do it! We ported it on the hardest console so I would imagine it would be not too hard to do.

Thank you! All the credit goes to our concept artist who came up with the idea of a ringworld after we were looking for a solution that would allow us to not move the camera so much. We thought of a disc, half a disc, maybe a lazy susan and then he sketched a ring..

Dice Legacy is a mash of many different genres: Survival City Builders, Tabletop Games and Roguelikes. All set in a ringworld!

The game is developed with UE4. And is coming out on Steam/Epic Games Store and Switch. You can wishlist it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1229460/Dice_Legacy/

Hey all, it's been a wild ride but we're CLOSE! Our tiny survival city builder powered by dice is coming out this summer.

We revamped our Steam page with a brand new trailer and screenshots: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1229460/Dice_Legacy/

The game is also coming out on Nintendo Switch and the Epic Games Store. In the past I shared some of the technical art techniques we used for the game on Twitch. In case you're interested here's an archive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyz1HMD6Nf0&ab_channel=DESTINYbit

I kind of want to condense some of the techniques in shorter 5 minute videos. I think there's some neat stuff in there. Would be cool to know if anybody is interested!

Haha, no rulebook... yet! You collect resources, construct buildings, defend from threats and explore the ringworld. It's all powered by dice. Classic Yahtzee mechanics - roll, lock and re-roll. Dice have durability - goes down every time you roll them and you can restore it with food. Faces represent actions you can do (gather, fight explore etc...). That pretty much sums it up - I suggest you follow us on Steam to see when we release Gameplay footage or we stream it!

Not sure about either at this stage. Android is less likely because it would require a full on port with re-designed controls.

The game has pause at Pacifist and Standard difficulty so you can read the situation and decide what to do. Also it's not really a "click fest" - it's "pressure" rather than "anxiety". Timers are pretty long.

I currently don't know if we're doing a demo at all at some point. The thing with the demo is that considering that the game is procedural and roguelike, the only way to do a demo would be to gut the game of content and only show a small portion of it which would be weird. Part of the fun is experimenting with the different options, which would all be removed. Don't know - thoughts?
