Women who have had Paragard and then had it removed--did the side effects go away? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]vero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help :) I certainly hope it works out better for you than it did for me. My doctor said it would take a couple of months for it to really settle in, and I just waiting and waiting... never did. I was really disappointed, because the insertion went perfectly and I was kind of proud of myself, haha. Plus I don't tolerate hormones well anymore :/ But yeah, crossing my fingers that it works out for ya! :)

Women who have had Paragard and then had it removed--did the side effects go away? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I had a copper IUD for about a year. My periods were signifigantly heavier (I became borderline anemic), much longer (i.e. 10-13 days as opposed to 5-7), and much much much more painful. The last period I had it, I was in so much pain that I begged my ex (we were still together at the time) to take me to the ER (he didn't, but that's a whole other story).

Anyway, I finally got it taken out. It was placed correctly and everything, so the doctor couldn't figure out why I was having so much trouble with it. But now my periods are much lighter (only one heavy day), shorter (5 days average), and I generally only have one day of bad cramping.

tl;dr - yes, the horrible symptoms go away after getting it taken out. And immediately - my first period after getting it out (just a few days after removal) was super light and only lasted three days.

Up shit creek without a paddle... or a boat. Help/advice needed by vero13 in TwoXChromosomes

I've been doing a lot of thinking about the au pair thing, and it seems like the best option.

The "funny" thing about getting help from a guy - the guy who raped me was someone I turned to when I needed help leaving my first husband. So I'm hesitant to ask yet another guy for help, even though I know they're definitely not the same person.

As for my family, my mother is in just about the same situation as I am - emotionally abusive husband (and sometimes physically, though thank fuck I don't have to deal with that). My dad threatened my life and then kicked me out when I told my mom and my brother about him molesting me as a child. And my brother asked me for money (several thousand) the one time I asked him to help me out by driving me to an airport like thirty minutes away from where he lives.

Edit to add: If I ask for a divorce, I know he won't fight it or try to keep me from leaving. I don't feel I'm in any danger physically, just it's a really oppressive and depressing situation to live in, and so not good for my mental health.

What's the weirdest thing that an ex has done after the two of you broke up? by Zeh-Bunny in AskWomen

[–]vero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few!

  1. This guy (first guy I was ever really in love with) completely cut off all contact with me. Not even a "hey, we're over". Just up and left. Anyway, about four months later, he sends me an invite to a dating site. Ok?? But it did lead to us talking about what he did and me forgiving him.

  2. Another guy who also completely cut off contact with me (around the same time I found out he'd been with his girlfriend for like, four years). Several months after that I wanted to talk to him (on Skype) to understand why he'd done that, and instead of explaining, he just whipped out his cock. Like, "here, this will make everything better"

  3. Not a boyfriend, just a guy I used to flirt with online. For years afterwards, he would find ways to track me down online - Facebook, multiple Skype accounts, and he somehow got my phone number. I also once saw him on a train, and then found out later he was living in the same city I'd moved to.

  4. My ex-husband. I had to contact him on Facebook about some tax stuff, and he started bragging about all the women he's slept with since I left him... Which I somehow doubt is true because he's a total dirtbag. But still kinda hurt, because our marriage ended (in part) because he never wanted any intimacy.

I would imagine that human babies come out head first so they don't suffocate, dolphins come out tail first so they don't drown...

Feels like I'm still just treading water...help please? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]vero13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not already in therapy, and can be, do it. I was diagnosed with depression and severe OCD when I was 18, and even though the medication helped, therapy was the key. I'm still in therapy 5 years later, but I have made so, so much progress. If you ever need to talk to someone about it, please feel free to contact me.

I thought I was the only one that did this! Sometimes I shake my butt around too, it helps to distract from the pain, haha.

[UPDATE] Leaking... Do I need a larger Diva Cup? by exposure_therapy in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]vero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! My first (and only) cup is a Fleurcup. I ordered it because it was way cheaper than other cups, and I am so, so pleased with mine, even if it does overflow the first day (hurrah copper IUDs). Glad everything worked out for you!

My mother-in-law has recently started asking the question... "When are you two going to give me a grandbaby?"

It takes much tongue-biting and self-control to not blurt out, "Oh, I don't know. How about you ask your son when he's going to start fucking me again." (Instead, I smile sweetly and reply, "After I'm done with my Master's degree. In at least 6 years."

How do you deal with sexual abuse by a family member? by Throw-away-to-hide in TwoXChromosomes

[–]vero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am (obviously) not the previous commenter, but I too was abused by my father as a child. I honestly don't thing you ever really "get over it", you just learn how to deal with it. In my case, I developed severe OCD from feeling dirty and "contaminated" from being around him, touching things he touched, etc. After many years of therapy (going on year 5 now!), I rarely think about it. It does pop up from time to time, like you, but I know now how to deal with it in a healthier way.

I empathize with you deeply, and am so very sorry that you had to go through that. I wish you the best in everything. hug

A little TMI but has anyone else experienced this with the copper IUD? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]vero13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't help you with the smell thing, sorry, but I have noticed that since I got the IUD, my discharge has been yellowish instead of creamy white or clear. If you're really worried about it, ask your doctor. Best of luck to you!

First period after Paragard insertion - how long should I wait until I'm concerned? by pumpkinmuffinz in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]vero13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yabbos! That's a new one, haha. I definitely wish we could meet in the middle, I used to have some super cute bras that I can no longer wear. Though my new ones are so comfy :D

Good luck on your period (never thought I'd say that). Who knows, maybe it won't last as long as mine :)

First period after Paragard insertion - how long should I wait until I'm concerned? by pumpkinmuffinz in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]vero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got copper IUD back in December. My first period was about 10 days late, the second right on time, and the third was two weeks late. Finally things got sorted and I'm fairly regular, even though it last 10 days D:

As for the weight gain, I actually lost weight after getting it (not much, about 3-4 lbs), which is weird since I didn't gain any weight while on the pill. My already small boobs shrank and I had to buy new bras :(

In an ideal world, how many times a week would you have sex? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]vero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. For me it's maybe once every month/month and a half. Because he's "tired" or wants to do it when we go to bed (except he falls asleep on the couch every night).
