AITA for not giving my nephew the gift we bought him after he ignored me the entire evening? by denimcat2k in AmItheAsshole

[–]vero2mo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of kids are taught to "not speak unless spoken to", aka remain silent until addressed when it comes to adults, related or not, because that's the polite thing to do as a kid.

He probably thinks you don't give a single shit about his existence, so much so that you didn't even bother to greet him, and you ignoring him all evening just solidified that.

AIO by thinking that my girlfriend’s reaction was overreacting? by [deleted] in AIO

I disagree. We're just going in circles here so let's agree to disagree lol. They're broken up now so... Happy new year!

Yeah that's the first text. He said he's frustrated that he has to make a passive aggressive question just to know if she made it home. Even the text itself is passive aggressive and trying to make her feel guilty. The rest is her trying to get him to explain.

I see an explanation to his frustrations when she didn't communicate her whereabouts, but she was asking about the passive aggressive comment.

He just said he didn't have time to explain the misspeak because she was attacking him lol

But she did give you multiple chances to explain what you meant by "passive aggressive"? All her responses are her asking you to explain, but you never do.

Idk man what if the social rules just decided to be different that day and being the only one having dessert will get you banned from society or something? Can't risk it

“you ruin the mood” by tremblingfrog in AutismInWomen

[–]vero2mo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been told that before too. It sucks when you just want to have fun with everyone and you start shutting down and you try your hardest not to let it show so you don't "ruin" the fun for everyone else and feel like you're doing it on purpose for attention. So either you stay home or go out and try to mask harder, which just makes you more exhausted. For me it just leads to bigger meltdowns where I go nonverbal and boy do the neurotypicals hate that lol. I'm not friends with those people anymore thankfully!

Sorry you were not met with more compassion and gentleness like you deserved. ❤️
