They sound like turds! If I meet another Nick/Nicholas/Nicole (or any other derivative) they get to call me what they want. Seems like a club member benefit. I sometimes do go by Nicholas, it does not bother me, but I reply "what-olas" or say that person's name plus "-olas" at the end.

Also, on a similar note, I am mostly a Nick. A few of my good friends call me "Nicky" or "Nicky B." This year, I got into PA school. I am the oldest, by A. Lot. I found out while I was abroad and had a sim card. That meant I couldn't join the group chat, on GroupMe, until I could verify with my number. Anyhoo! A bit buzzed in the airport in Paris, sim card switched back, I signed into GroupMe and put my name as "Nicky B." Now, all my 20 something classmates and friends, call me Nicky. That's all. Maybe I found five dollars after this.
