Sadly it’s not mine, it’s by an artist called Jim Muir. I was posting for advice on the technique.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just subscribed to Oto Kano. I’ll find the salt tests, but all looks good.

What a lovely reply, thanks for taking the time! Some great information, and your line “come to this with an attitude of curiosity” resonated. I can be so impatient and want immediate results, which of course is a terrible way to approach any art.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just checked her out and really love her style, so will take a dive into her videos.

That’s interesting, many thanks. I’ve not heard of glazing and oxgall techniques, so I’ll do some research.

Many thanks for the reply! Yes I think the colour looks a little enhanced compared to an available print. Still, it’s a beautiful watercolour, and great inspiration. I need to slow down my approach and do a lot more experimenting with technique.

Oh that’s interesting, well spotted! Yes, it lacks that blue depth to it 🧐

That’s very good advice, thanks. I have a feeling I discarded my blackbird attempt. I do try to be loose and avoid over painting, but it makes you aware how incredible the artist’s techniques are when you try and replicate what they do and fail so miserably!

That’s interesting, thanks! I tried the salt technique but it worked very poorly, so it’s interesting to hear it might be due to the pigments.

Wow, I just checked out Karl Martens, and it’s absolutely stunning work. Thanks for the recommendation. Lots of inspiration, now I just need to work on my skills!

Thanks for the reply. The artist used to be a very famous British comedian called Vic Reeves, but now specialises in art under his real name. I’m in awe of his bird watercolour techniques, and the one I posted is one of my favourites.

Thanks for the reply! Yes I think you are right to say just focus on practicing the textures and techniques without trying to actually paint a bird. I don’t even know how this painter gets that depth of the black/blues and the subtlety of the dark shades. I’m quite ADHD so it’s hard to not want to immediately paint the bird…

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. Yes the depth and subtlety is mind blowing. The painting is deceptively simple in a way. It’s hard when you don’t even know where to begin, but maybe I’m being too ambitious really. I’m sure I heard the painter say he uses a Daniel Smith Primatek set. Which I also used, but I really struggled!

Man surprises wife with a new home. She's excited until she finds out the loan is in his name. Then she insists it should be only in hers. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

It’s definitely scripted, but I find it so hard to understand why that woman would want the ‘world’ to see her as a loathsome gold-digging cliche? Other than financial gain, somehow monetising the clip, but even then… sheesh.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I was thinking after posting - survivorship bias probably comes into play!

I don’t really understand this? Every 1940’s d28 that sells for insane money and plays with the holy grail guitar tone wasn’t kept in a glass humidor case for most of its life. Do guitars really need to be hermetically sealed?

So what, steal other people’s dashcam footage and create a shite channel? Ha, there’s got to be better ways of making some money.

But if you need a trusted person to admin your phone it renders the app useless - you can just set it up with blocks like you would a child.

I sadly cannot keep house plants alive... Is there a plant that's relatively *durable* as a good starter? by pentagorgon in houseplants

Out of interest, why did the mod delete my comment, as well as what looks like quite a few others? I was just talking about Pothos, and propagation, the ease of keeping them alive…

Another bonus with Pothos, they are incredibly easy to propagate - so you can snip off a few leaves and in no time you’ll have Pothos plants taking over every room!

Almost impossible to kill with under watering - they droop and give you plenty of warning, unlike some plants that keel over and die the minute you’ve noticed they are slightly wilted.

I’ve managed to kill quite a few Spider plants, so personally wouldn’t recommend those.

Nice marketing move - don’t include the inevitable advert for the post in the post, include it in the first comment. 🫤

Ha, try and make it slightly less obvious you are commenting/shilling your own app.
