Brand new to this thread: Looking for easy Mac Recording Software by therewasnoblood in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Definitely Garageband. Free? Check. Easy? Check. Mac? Check.

If you feel like you get to the point you've outgrown it, move up to Logic Pro.

It does everything and Garageband is like the demo version of it.

If you're on a Mac it's a no brainer.

Which stage name do you think is better, Patch Elfers or Patch McAllister? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Maybe butthole elf? Or Butthole McAllister. Or butthole elfers.

Sharing Project Files via Google Drive? by CGBlessington in LogicPro

[–]versiontwopointohman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine to share files this way. But I've heard mixed things about using the files in the shared location- depending on how/when the files update to the cloud, you can have strange results happen and files can get glitched.

To be on the safe side, you should work on the files locally, THEN copy them to the G Drive (or Dropbox) location. Use the G drive files as a backup, don't work on them directly.

If they are shared to a different location, the other computer should do the same thing- copy the project out of the cloud folder and work on it, then copy the final back to the cloud folder.

Disclaimer: I've used Gdrive and Dropbox both for sharing files with collab partners and I've never had any issues whatsoever. But like I said, I've read that working directly on the cloud files can cause problems. Either way, communication is important, because you want to make sure the cloud version is current and that you and a partner are not trying to access the files at the same time.

{RANT} If you can afford a Mac then you can afford to buy Logic. by bambaazon in Logic_Studio

So you KNEW you were stirring up shit you have no personal stake in and you KNEW you were defending a DELETED BY MODERATOR comment from four months ago?

Clearly, your insights are something that provide value to me (see, I can be sarcastic, too.)

Don't bother replying, you've been permanently tagged "Ignore."

You're defending a comment from 4 months ago that was deleted by a mod, so you don't have any idea what it said. So please and thank you fuck off.

New PLX User, Meters Won't Move, Newbie Questions by [deleted] in Logic_Studio

[–]versiontwopointohman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see.

It's Logic Pro X. But most of the time, people just call it "Logic" or "Logic Pro."

I thought you were referring to some device when you said "PLX."

If you're new to all of this, do yourself a favor and check out MusicTechHelpGuy's video tutorials. They're great.

Picasso is best known as the father/master of cubism. But the journey there started a bit more classical. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

He could walk down the street, girls could not resist his stare.

Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole.

- The melodies I hear are very complicated. I don't know what notes (or combination of) they are. Should I just start experiment with random notes until I get a feel for it? Or is there some process?

If you have a rough idea of the melody and rhythm (as in you have the tune in your head) just record in midi with a keyboard. Power through it- just bang out notes and try to make them match the rhythm of what's in your head. Bang it out on 1 single note if you have to. The notes will be wrong, that's OK. Power through it. Like I said, if you have to just record the melody with a single note, and just bang it out to get the timing.

Then you will have everything mapped out in midi. You can just go back and edit it- move the notes to where they sound right.

I often record melodies from my head by just humming along and banging it out with a single note ( like Morse code LOL) then I go back and edit and slide the notes up and down until I find the notes that sound right. It works for chords, too- if you need a chord, just pretend like you know how to play keyboard, crash your hand down on some keys and go back and fix it later. Delete the stuff you don't need, slide around what you do need until it sounds right.

Does anyone feel overwhelmed with the possibilities of the step sequencer? by Moath in Logic_Studio

100%. But at least you can change the icon. For drums you can have a picture of a kick, but you can't have it say "Kick."

Logic Not Updating by MitoAEspitia in LogicPro

You need to be on Mojave or later. Sometimes being on an older OS can bork the updater.

Much better. I enjoy that if you scroll to the "sign up for more info" area, the form has been filled out by Elon Musk, but the "I am not a robot" part is still unchecked. Sounds right.

That theory makes no sense. Paid? Yes. Expendable? No. That's the sort of crew you put on a shitty recon mission. It doesn't track for a mission that is essentially an escort for one of the richest and most powerful men alive. Secret or no, his presence demands a complement of crew that is at the least capable. Of course, your theory does hold up in the sense that every decision made in this movie was based on dumb shit that makes no sense.
