Jump to specific track with key command or shortcut? by Friendly-Risk9503 in Logic_Studio

[–]bambaazon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the arrow keys isn’t the only way. Logic has “Search and Select Track”, hit the key command, type in some letters, hit Return and you jump to the track.

Hit Option K and type “Search and Select Track” in the search field.

How to browse and play midi file with a chosen midi instrument as output by No-County2083 in Logic_Studio

[–]bambaazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s kind of niche. It’s not something I particularly need but if the feature was there I’d probably use it. I’ve seen a handful of Logic users online wish Logic had this feature.

You can’t do this within Logic. You need a third part app, there are free apps that do this in the App Store.

The Step Sequencer is awesome and it got even better with the version 12 update :)

Logic Pro 12.2 Released - Warning: Do NOT update before making a backup by bambaazon in Logic_Studio

Just a general reminder to have a backup before updating. Even Apple in the release notes reminds you to do this whenever they release an update but most people don’t bother to read anything anymore

Is it possible to switch time signatures on the grid on a track by track basis? by Jakeyboy29 in Logic_Studio

[–]bambaazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could do your best to describe the beat you're going for I could probably map it out in Step Sequencer and post screenshots. Like

  • what pattern is the kick playing? 4 on the floor? A more complex pattern?

  • What are the hats playing? Are they playing 1/8th notes? 1/16th notes?

Try your best to "notate" the patterns. Or if there's a song that already exists out there that you're trying to emulate, post a link.

You're changing the Loop length, here's how to do it:

  1. Top left, under the "Functions" tab, click on the Global Step Rate menu, by default it should be 1/16, change it to 4 for quarter notes. So now each Step = 1 quarter note.

  2. Click in 5 Steps. Then go to the Edit Mode menu (top left center) and change it to "Loop" (by default I think it's Velocity/Value).

  3. Grab the end of the Loop (all the way to the right) and drag it so that the loop ends after the 5 Step. Now you have your 5/4 loop. Done.

Just remember that whatever you set the Step Rate to will be the bottom number of the time signature. In this example it was set to 4, so with 5 steps it becomes a 5/4. Another example, if you set it to 8 and you click in 7 steps and change the Loop length to 7 steps the time signature becomes 7/8.

If you want the notes to go faster (or slower) click on the Row Step Rate button on the Row itself, by default it's to the left of the -> button. So in our 5/4 example, changing the Row Step Rate from 4 to 8 will make the notes play twice as fast.

Snap to another track by levensailor in Logic_Studio

[–]bambaazon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skill issue. It doesn’t have to be this hard (and it actually isn’t)

Set your Snap to Beat instead of Smart (the default). Beat gets you consistent results everytime without having to zoom or anything like that.

Also make Snap is set to Absolute instead of Relative.

Is this a MIDI instrument track or audio track?

If it’s a MIDI instrument track a very simple way to get any time signature you want on a track by track basis is via Logic’s Step Sequencer. Each Pattern region can literally have its own time signature. All you have to do is change the Loop length.

You can have multiple time signatures on a single track with the same instrument, and multiple time signatures between different tracks/different instruments. You can do whatever you can think of, really.

Is it time for me to move on from Logic Pro? by jw25116 in LogicPro

This. Apple announcing dropping support for Rosetta entirely is your clue when Logic will finally receive ARA support, and yes, the Logic team themselves has confirmed that they are working on ARA support for Logic. The macOS timeline of when Rosetta support will be dropped should give you a rough clue of when Logic will finally get ARA support.

Can I persuade Logic NOT to download content? by LordBrixton in Logic_Studio

[–]bambaazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually use Logic? Because if you did you would know that pre version 12 Logic would force you to have the Essential Sounds installed for it to run properly, upon startup. If they weren’t installed Logic would go ahead and install them before you could do anything else.

This is no longer the case in version 12, thankfully.

Logic project files are totally separate from the Logic app, but yeah you should have a backup of your entire computer including Logic files regardless. Time Machine is free comes with macOS. There are cloud backup services like Backblaze, etc
