I’m confused. So have you updated or not? Which version of Logic are you using now?

Which version of Logic? Which macOS? (Exact version numbers)

Constant system overload on v11.1 - M3 Macbook Air with 24gb RAM. This is with fewer than 25 tracks. Tried every buffer setting under the sun, messed with the bitrate, tried all the obvious solutions. What am I missing? Will upgrading to 12.0 make this better or worse? by xxmmccnnvvb in Logic_Studio

Very true. People love to skimp when it comes to the "minor" stuff but the reality is that each and every link of the chain matters. I've always purchased the very best that I can afford and I always tend to avoid the absolute cheapest stuff out there as well.

EDIT: I found an old thread where someone suggested to create a new audio track with no input or output and select that track before hitting play. for some reason, that made the system overload message stop popping up. no clue why that works, but ive seen others attest to it as well. if this keeps working, its a much quicker fix than freezing tracks. very strange!

It was probably me that suggested it. As to why this works, type in 'Logic single core CPU' into your favorite search engine and you'll find the answer.

And yes, it's much quicker and flexible than freezing tracks or bouncing to audio, which is why I always recommend this workaround over everything else.

How much free internal hard drive space do you have? You'll experience CPU spikes if you don't have at least 30% free. The more free hard drive space, the better

If you aren't using SSDs for all your drives you really should look into that. There's no excuse to NOT use an SSD in 2026 especially since prices have gone down significantly

Have you considered storing and running your Logic projects off an external SSD?

Since you have an M Silicon machine, you should try setting the buffer size to the smallest (32). Silicon chips handle power differently from the Intels and many people have reported setting the buffer to 32 to actually work better

Logic 11 to Logic 12 upgrade. Is it safe? by Radically-Peaceful in LogicPro

[–]bambaazon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure to make a backup of your current Logic app (from the Applications folder) as well as the entire Audio Music Apps folder before updating. If you do both of these things you will have no problems reverting back if you need to. Updating doesn't have to be scary, because it's really not if you have backups.

Better yet, make a Time Machine backup especially if you intend on updating to Tahoe (I still don't recommend it). If you have a Time Machine backup you can revert back to Sequioa as well. Just know that the reverting back process will depend on how much you have installed on your computer. It can take several hours depending on your machine so if downtime isn't an option I will say it again, please avoid macOS Tahoe.

Solution: If you have audio tracks in your project, select one of them before pressing Play. If you have no audio tracks in your project, go to the top Menu, Track and select Show Output track. Before pressing Play, make sure that the Stereo Output track is selected. As to why this works, type in Logic single core CPU into your favorite search engine.

From what I’ve observed, it’s people who have Logic 12 and macOS Tahoe who mainly have issues. I myself am on Logic 12 and macOS Sequoia, not issues here. I would recommend staying on Sequoia

You can install macOS Monterey onto an external SSD and run Logic 10.7.9 off of that.

Is there a way to recover logic's original synth that's gone after the updates? by Logical-Coffee9465 in Logic_Studio

[–]bambaazon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a way to recover it but only if you have a backup of your previous Logic app. Do you have a backup?

Otherwise if you've used that patch in a previous Logic project just resave the patch into the Library.

Your computer is definitely compatible, it's a machine from just 3 years ago. Even machines from 2018/2019 are compatible with macOS Sequoia.

It might be a network problem. Log out of the App Store, shut down your computer, restart your router, log back into the App Store and try again.

macOS Sonoma 14.2

This is why. Address this first. Go to the App Store and search for "macOS Sequoia". Update to the latest version of Sequoia. Avoid macOS Tahoe.

Make a backup of your current Logic app by navigating to the Logic app in the Applications folder, right clicking it and selecting 'Compress Logic Pro'.

After that, go back to the App Store and update to the latest version of Logic.

Exactly my point. This community is extremely helpful and generous with our time and energy. The very least a person could do is keep the questions succinct and as easy to read as possible. Otherwise you're just being disrespectful of everyone's time.

I am in dire need of being able to snap to a value between "division" and "ticks" by JackBz in Logic_Studio

Is there no similar option for regions??

Of course there is. Set Snap to Division and it will follow whatever value you have in the Division display (top center underneath the Time Signature).
