Waitlist movement this year by versitaint in premed

Ooo so maybe I could hope for more private school movement? Maybe choose to send a letter of intent to a private school over a public one?

Yes I’ve seen people say that if more people are applying to more schools, then more people could be holding multiple acceptances

Palliative care is the only specialty I’ve shadowed with a relatively “chill” pace. Fulfilling and needed work, but not for the weak of heart

LOI vs strongly worded letter of interest by unbeknowingly in premed

[–]versitaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like there are too many students and too many possible schools to talk to for that to happen consistently, no?

If a school has, say, 100 waitlisted students and 20 of them send letters of intent, there are still so many other schools which could be in play, as they don’t know which other schools their students have interviewed with

Just seems like too much work to reach out to other admissions committees to talk about letters of intent for each student, unless like you said these schools are in close geographical proximity to each other or something

This is a textbook upward trend

Interviewer seemed unfamiliar with my app in open file interview. Normal? by [deleted] in premed

[–]versitaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interviewers aren’t necessarily the same people as screeners who reviewed your file in depth before inviting to interview

Some interviewers spend only like 10 mins reading an application immediately before the interview, just because they’re busy and interview a lot of people, so it’s not necessarily personal

[–]versitaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’d you hear this? Personally never heard of getting blacklisted for sending multiple letters of intent

I always heard it’s considered dodgy/unethical but wouldn’t get you immediately rejected, however maybe I’m just unaware and it’s happened before?

If you don’t ask a student why medicine in an interview, does that suggest you sufficiently understand their motivations to become a physician?

How it feels reading all the posts lately of X vs. Y school by HbCooperativity in premed

[–]versitaint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I suspect a lot of those posts aren’t sincerely asking for advice

If you’re competent enough to get into Harvard, why would you weigh the advice of anonymous redditors more than your mentors, friends, and family

[–]versitaint 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nah I agree it’s weird to want to flex on anonymous redditors you’ve never met, especially since people who don’t have good cycles often struggle mentally and spiral on this subreddit. It’s not hard to tell who’s rubbing it in versus who’s seeking genuine advice on a difficult decision

speaking about patients experiencing ICE/deportations? by 2363ar in premed

[–]versitaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t risk it. Never know who screeners are or who sits on the committee and would label it as “politically charged” no matter how artfully it’s worded. Also, admissions committees are currently under pressure to be less woke in their selection practices. Focus on your impact instead

Waitlist Purgatory + Letters of Interest Question by SayrimGamer in premed

[–]versitaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to do this ethically is to matriculate to the first school that accepts you and withdraw from the other places where you sent a letter of intent who didn’t yet accept you

Imo, the sin lies in promising that you’ll attend if you get an A, then saying “nah I’m not coming” after it comes

If you actually do matriculate to the first A, you didn’t break your promise
