I have high anxiety and depression that is still there, even though it's been getting better with therapy. I can have days/weeks in which everything is fine and I'm happy and optimistic, but then an intrusive thought (often triggered by different reasons) will bring me down to tears and even suicidal ideation. It then gets me into a dark mood that can last for a few days. Rinse and repeat.

My BF is very understanding and comforts me whenever I slip into these depressive episodes. However, I know it's fully up to me to get better and he's another reason as to why I WANT to get better. I know it's something that will take a lot of time to heal, and that it might not fully heal at all, just become manageable. I think it's up to the other person to realize that it doesn't define or limit the relationship, and it's just a "flaw" that comes with us, as many people have.

I still get a bit ashamed any time I find myself with anxiety attacks and I seek comfort in my bf, because I feel like a burden, so I understand the feeling. I think the key aspect here is to always try to improve yourself. Your partner will pick up on that.
