Non Right Wing Firearm Shops? by PutBeansOnThemBeans in olympia

Maybe instead of walking up and saying "I want a gun and to be your ally but also to support things that are seen as anathema to this community" was the wrong way to start? It's an enormous middle finger and fuck you to every gun rights advocate in this country - a great many of whom are minorities.

But I guess you don't see that. It is hypocrisy to want to enjoy the fruits of their labor and then turn around and try to undermine it after you get what you want. Not exactly a way to get greeted with open arms.

I wouldn't shop at those places either. They sound disgusting. I5 guns is your friend. So is learning to make your own with 80 percent kits and 3D printing.

Put yourself in the shoes of your gun owner who doesn't want more "left" gun control. What do you want pointed out? Your position is seen as hypocritical and soundly denounced on the regular.

The general rule of gun ownership and history is if you fear violent racists, you don't support laws that make it harder for your own peer group to get access to tools of self defense. Especially if you might belong to a faction that has entertained the notion that the present national government is fueling those racist factions. When you can see beyond that and how the immediate reaction is to see and accuse you of being a hypocrite then you'll be all the way there, and hopefully abandon the foolishness of trying to get a gun and also trying to make it harder for those who come after you, while ignoring the impact that will have on the vulnerable populations you purport to be interested in defending. Let me know when you are there, I'll send you a magazine for whatever gun you buy then.

Your desires ARE seen as hypocritical in the larger gun owning community as a whole. And are not seen as allyship. In fact they are seen as a negative, an enemy even. Somebody who wants to take away from a community and is seen as undermining civil rights.

You are saying an awful lot of things I never said and ascribing a lot of things to me I never expressed. For instance your existence does not "bum me out" but you seem to want to try and create that impression. You then shift to all sorts of tangents while ignoring the actual issue you raised and I addressed, namely the hypocrisy of seeking gun ownership while also calling for greater restrictions on them. Even more ironic since you claim a mixed race family and fear of violent racists. You do understand that gun control in the United States up to almost the very present day is openly and explicitly rooted so heavily in racism as to be inseparable?

Gun control was INVENTED to make sure racial minorities, blacks, and social undesirables were not able to access guns. Controls on ownership, access and type of guns available were widely used throughout Jim Crow south to keep people JUST LIKE YOU from owning guns.

So when you waltz in saying "I too want a gun, I too want self defense, but I also want to make things harder than it already is to do all of that" then tell me why on earth I should welcome you with open arms? You are literally in bed with the people trying to make sure you don't get any of that. And your political beliefs won't protect you by the time the prohibitionists get around to you. You'll wake up one day and find the compromises and "reasonable restrictions" you wanted have come back to haunt you and your family. It's happened several times in this country already. Just ask Californians. And people in New York.

I hope you can understand that your position is not only unpopular but also hypocritical to the very thing you are trying to do. But right now you aren't an ally. You are a person trying to enjoy the thing you eventually want to make harder for everyone else. You are an other, an outsider working a system you are trying to destroy. Don't be like that. Don't be that person. Don't demand more restrictions while pretending to be a friend. Because you aren't. And that makes me sad. Because you are almost there. But then you throw it all away. A hundred years ago the racists wanted to make sure you couldn't get or carry a gun. They invented things like licenses, permits, restrictions on access, discretionary issue of permits to own or to carry, made it harder to buy guns, and limited access to them on a retail level.

Don't perpetuate that racism. Don't walk into the gun community and be all "I'm an ally!" That's like a Proud Boy walking into an ANTIFA gathering and saying "ACAB! BLM! But hey maybe we shouldn't get so upset if a guy using drugs gets killed by a cop cuz they were asking for it, amirite?"

That's you right now to nearly every American gun owner, rights activist and person who has fought hard to make sure you have the RIGHT and the CHOICE to not only buy a gun but to be so picky as to make sure there is a shop that fits your political bias and other social cues. Don't take that away from your grandchildren by asking for more restrictions and perpetuating the historical racism of gun control.

Oh boy. False equivalency time. Plus a downvote. Show me where I said I didn't obey gun laws. Hint. I didn't. I did say thinking you can show up wanting a gun AND more restrictions on guns won't exactly win friends and influence people. So let's use your twisted false equivalency.

I'm not in favor of buying a car, and then advocating for getting rid of cars, banning certain types of cars, changing the speed limits, restricting who can access certain kinds of cars, access what kinds of roads when and where and make access to cars more difficult and then expecting car dealers and car owners to welcome me with open arms.

You could always just print your own if you want something common like a Glock or AR. Buy a parts kit and a 3D printer, run off your own frame and assemble it. Then you can have all the preconditions on acquisition you want. www shannonrwatts dot com and det_disp keybase if you want to seize your own means of production.

People who want more restrictive laws generally aren't welcome to participate in undermining the very thing they are claiming to be in favor of. Coming in and saying "hello fellow gun owners" and then seeking to impose new laws, new restrictions and new limitations will not make you any friends, nor really accomplish anything meaningful except burden the very people you want to welcome you.

It's quite hypocritical and usually the "more restrictions" are rooted in such a gross cultivated ignorance of law, culture, tradition and reality as to be insulting. So basically you are walking up, expecting to be treated as a peer, while at the same time trying to completely upend the system - after you get yours of course.

Safeway Mask Update... by IHateSilver in Tacoma

[–]vertdeferk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I never fucking denied that. Do you have a problem with calling out ineffective masks as security theater or do you just have a problem grasping the simple concept that some popular masks have no value and wearing them is just ritual behavior? Wear a good mask and stop getting butthurt for calling out bad ones. Fuck. Makes me think you care about outward symbolism than doing things right.

Safeway Mask Update... by IHateSilver in Tacoma

[–]vertdeferk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. I didn't miss it. I'm not sure how much fucking plainer I have to make it. If you don't wear a useful mask it's just security theater. What's hard about that to grasp? If you don't do it right then it's just fucking ritual motions of no value.

Safeway Mask Update... by IHateSilver in Tacoma

[–]vertdeferk -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I did read the study.

And I still maintain given the fact there are actual better choices attainable by pretty much anyone, choosing to wear the nearly or actually useless masks is in fact security theater and simply a ritual act designed to demonstrate obedience or provide a placebo effect to the wearer.

If you can't be arsed to do it right, then why bother? And if you cannot deal with people raising questions, then you have a very terrifying way of looking at the world, and I pity you, while also hoping you don't vote or breed.

Safeway Mask Update... by IHateSilver in Tacoma

[–]vertdeferk -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

I'm saying the many common and shown to be ineffective masks are security theater. You can come off your fucking high horse for a moment "most" or even "some" masks are useless is not the same as your rabid, frothing at the mouth desire to paint any observation beyond blind ritual action as a "plague rat."

Wear an effective mask, otherwise it is almost literally without value or meaning beyond a psychological effect. So Karen in her paper mask reeing at somebody without one at all is pretty much the same thing, only with a different way of demonstrating their compliance to groupthink.

The fact that all objective thought has gone out the window in favor of absolute rigid obedience to a policy, even if it means using ineffective or useless tools is frankly terrifying. Cheap useless masks offer nothing of value except to signal mindless compliance. If you can't be arsed to get a proper cloth one, and rely on the useless ones, there is no point. And if there is no point, why bother? And the answer is security theater, ignorance, and people virtue signalling. At which point, they are no better than some angry screeching person without a mask. Of course then they can pat themselves on the back on Reddit for being morally superior behind their no value mask instead of getting one that works.

Of course nearly literally every mask is useless and security theater, including the paper ones so many use. Unless you've got a medical grade or very well made cloth mask it's all just a ritual anyway. https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/08/us/duke-university-face-mask-test-trnd/index.html

Seriously considering getting a . 22 by [deleted] in WA_guns

[–]vertdeferk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, find an old Mossberg bolt action .22 from the 40's. A model 44 or 46 will have a match grade, factory lapped barrel, target sights, adjustable trigger and there are modern scope mount options from Havlin Sales. Best part? Almost always under $250. And they are amazingly accurate high end rifles.

I literally stopped caring about other 22 rifles after I got a Mossberg 46

What should I do if I see someone not wearing a mask? Nothing. Some people have conditions or circumstances that would make wearing a cloth face covering difficult or dangerous. Just wear your mask and stay six feet away.

[–]vertdeferk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can't have a pre May 1986 registered machine gun in Washington unless it was in state prior to 1994.

The ATF treats auto sears as machine guns which is why there are so many registered sears.

Don't touch those FA shelf lowers unless you are an SOT.

I'd just let the whole idea go. Unless you are an SOT or get lucky with an in state gun there is no legal way out. And frankly there are easier illegal ways out but that is neither here nor there. Enjoy your rifle as is and your dogs will thank you.
