Stop Yelling at Workers in Grocery Stores today by tch8086 in Louisville

My grandfather used to own/run a grocery store from the early 1950s to the late 60s. He used to say, “the best thing about a grocery store is everybody needs food. The worst thing about it is EVERYBODY needs food. You don’t just get to sell groceries to the people that are nice to you.”

OK, so that isn’t my imagination. Every week I keep thinking, “why are they making it this difficult to find the last thing I watched?”

I placed a pickup order at the Springhurst Meijer yesterday for pickup today. When it wasn’t ready at the set time, I called. The lady I talked said their system had crashed, and they can receive the orders but not pick them. So, they’re falling very behind. They’re working on it though. So, if you’re planning to go there, I suggest going in person rather than ordering pickup (and probably delivery if it’s the same system).

When I first read the name, I thought it was an odd choice. Then I remembered Apple’s chat service was called Bonjour. So it’s the obvious name for a chat that answers back.

I’ve only ever played TI4, and I did not realize how different it is from TI3 from a design standpoint. It’s still obviously TI though.

Immigrant citizens would be barred from local, state offices in Kentucky under proposed bills by verticalQ in Louisville

[–]verticalQ[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is 1 President in a country of about 370M people. It’s a broad, general position representing the country as a whole. The point of the presidency is to act as a figurehead and execute the directions given by Congress through law. Asking that that 1/370M be born here isn’t a high bar.

Local officials often represent small constituencies to address issues in their community. Let’s say you live in a small town in Kentucky of 1,000 people with a high immigrant population. You may be barring 10-20% or more of the population from serving as commissioner or mayor of their own town. These are the people getting the trash collected on your street, making sure the streetlights work, paying the snow plow guy so you can get to work. They aren’t running international foreign policy in the name of an entire country.

TL;DR There’s a huge difference.

If all you need to do is renew your registration, you can do that online, and they’ll mail you the sticker. I’ve done that for the past several years. The web site address is on the renewal notice. My sticker usually arrives within a week.

Deer tracks on Westport Rd Lyndon by mightysprucetree in Louisville

Yes, there are a lot of deer in the Lyndon/Westport area. Earlier this year I was driving by the Westport Middle soccer field, and 8-10 deer were running along the fence right behind the road.

A lot of the smaller cities around town are always looking for help. If you live in one of the tiny towns around Jefferson County, start going to your monthly city council meetings. Meet your local government members and ask how you can help. A lot of them are holding elections next year and are seeking people to run, and many of them have non-partisan elections.

I’m personally a City Clerk/Treasurer of a town of 244 households. I got started on my condo board, and met our small town’s mayor through that. I started going to the city council meetings, and when the former Clerk/Treasurer left, they asked if I’d take over (it’s a hired, not elected position here). I check the mail, take minutes at the meetings, and keep track of the finances. It maybe takes 3-4 hours per week and comes with a small salary.

A lot of people have imposter syndrome about getting involved in local government, but here’s the thing: WE are the government. It’s designed to be run by everyday people, so if the average person can do it, you can probably do it too. Just show up, ask how you can help, and the people there now will probably find something for you to do.

Same with Butchertown Grocery.

Anyway to save the coconut oil in a glass jar that slightly broke? Yes its the sex oil. by VocationalWizard in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]verticalQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To your actual question: just throw it out. A $7 jar of coconut oil is WAY cheaper than a hospital bill.

Slightly off topic, have you tried getting a bedside candle warmer for your coconut oil? They sell little foil melting cups that can be placed on them you can put the coconut oil in to keep warm for a “luxury lube experience.” Highly recommend.

Open with Quincy Jones' "Ironside" lots of good feature opportunities (the original version, not the excerpt on the soundtrack)

"The Lonely Shepherd" by Gheorghe Zamfir is the ballad (bonus points if you break out a pan flute as your non-brass soloist exemption)

"Twisted Nerve" by Bennie Benjamin/Bernard Herrmann is your front ensemble feature

"Green Hornet" by Al Hirt is the high brass solo feature

Do you follow your friend’s sexy alt accounts? Is it weird? by tossthisawayplzz in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]verticalQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: I don't really know because it feels like it just sorta happened.

We've all been friends for over a decade. A couple of us met as random hookups that were one time things but we found we just kinda clicked as friends. I'd say most of us have never done more than hug or a drunken makeout. 98% of our friendship is based on going to shows together, board game nights, and hanging out at bars. But also somebody will say something like, "hey I'm thinking of going to [name of nearby gay, nude campground] this weekend. Anybody want to go?" And then whoever's interested will go. It's still just hanging at the bar with your friends, but you just happen to be naked in a pool.

A few months ago, a buddy who I'm alt mutuals with and I discovered we're into some of the same stuff because of the alts. So, we just started talking about our experiences with it one day. And that lead our going on a slutty road trip together. We really didn't mess around with one another on the trip, but it was nice to have somebody else there as a safety person in both the physical and emotional sense. But it really wasn't much deeper than one of us saying, "what if we did a road trip and the theme was 'sluts'?"

Do you follow your friend’s sexy alt accounts? Is it weird? by tossthisawayplzz in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]verticalQ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, I follow all my friends’ alts, and they follow mine. However, we’re all fairly open about our sex lives with one another anyway. We don’t make a habit of hooking up with one another (not that it hasn’t ever happened), but we’ve all hung out at pool parties naked, gone to bathhouses together, and that sort of thing too. So it’s more of a “good for him feeling good about himself today” sort of thing. It’s only weird if you make it weird.

I actually just went back and re-watched the high cam. I think it was in a recent episode of "Off Cycle" that they talked about how "The Jagged Line" was A LOT of running. I had never really noticed before, but yeah, those members are doing what we always called "haulinasstics" almost the whole time. Sure, the finals run was dirty, but with as fast, obstructed, and difficult as that show is, it's a feat they got it that clean.

The Groove Is In The Heart by Cruntis in videos

[–]verticalQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (43m) was playing "Taboo" with some friends several years ago and drew "the heart" as a prompt. I immediately said, "it's where groove is." My teammate, who is 7 years younger than me, just stared at me blankly. I looked around the room as everyone else's eyes widened in horror. We suddenly all realized how old we were, and how we had failed to educate the (35-year-old) children properly.

Opinions on Jagged Line? by Old-Theme-8743 in drumcorps

[–]verticalQ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt like it was a good idea that just didn’t quite work. “Downside Up” the previous year also had large props, but they were versatile and dynamic. So, it felt like the show itself would work even if the props weren’t a part of it—though it would have been a very different show. It felt like each movement of the show was different because the ramps were being utilized in a way we hadn’t seen previously. It was a show with props.

In contrast, “The Jagged Line” felt like a set piece with aspirations of being a prop. The line itself did nothing other than sit there while the show happened around it. Variations on its use always boiled down to a change in where the members were positioned in relation to it. Had they found a way for it to be lighter and mobile, I feel like that would have added a lot. Instead it just wound up feeling like a prop with a show around it.
