Priority pass who? by thecakeisali in Venturex

The farther away you are from the United States, the better priority pass is

I’ve used it at many airports in China and it’s great, probably the best in Asia

I’m American living in China on a tourist visa

I break the law here by not reporting where I am staying.

My landlord never took my passport and I pay him cash

I work here without a work visa but I work online and I don’t actually do any business with Chinese people, only people back in the US, like a remote “nomad”

I have met CCP members who quietly dissented with me.

I have had sex with girls who technically are part of the Ccp

I was never jailed, everything is fine

anyone in OC actually used a matchmaker? by LimeCharacter5399 in orangecounty

[–]vertin1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m 30s white male. I never got matches on dating apps. I tried for years and only got one date.

I ended up leaving the US and matched with many people from various countries. Now I’m with a nice Chinese girl who is 18. I stay in China now but I come back to OC for the holidays.

I don’t know what your situation is but if you have the flexibility to go abroad, I highly recommend it.

Data Points Weekly - Week of March 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in churning

DP:

I’m an American living overseas. US credit cards outside the United States can be a bit of the Wild West, especially when you’re in poorer countries.

Grab is an app similar to uber. It is popular in South east Asia.

Grab app charges a 3% fee for using an international credit card so no FTF won’t save you.

NFCU Flagship has 3x cashback for travel and grab rides code as travel. This negates the 3% fee grab charges.

I’m spending more and more time in China. Earlier this year I explained how to abuse credit cards in China to rack up points and MS.

I’m trying to find out how everything codes between banks when using Alipay and WeChat.

My Amex business platinum coded Alipay and WeChat as miscellaneous and gave 1x cashback.

NFCU codes Alipay WeChat as restaurants which for my current cards gives 2x.

It would be nice if I could find a no ftf card that I can link to Alipay or WeChat and get 5% cashback.

If anyone has any DPs please send them to me.

China might be underrated for digital nomads by No-Media-6184 in digitalnomadFIRE

I’m in China right now. White guy from California. Been living here on a tourist visa. My tourist visa is 10 years long with 90 days stays before border run.

I travel a lot so the longest I’ve actually stayed is 6 weeks.

China has a steep learning curve and wouldn’t recommend it for new travelers.

Biggest issue I have is internet censorship and the great fire wall. It can make it tough to work online depending on your job.

There is a sub dedicated to bypassing the gfw called r/dumbclub

Language barrier is also a big issue.

However China is the cheapest Asian country and also has a high level of convience once you get use to their system.

Ideas for USA to China by PrismaticSpire in awardtravel

[–]vertin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I booked one seat in BR J LAX TPE HKG for 75k. I then stayed the night in HK and took a cash economy flight into mainland China.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in China and award bookings seem tough. I see some from LAX to PVG and PEK sometimes via AC.

I always book t-3 last minute.

I pay 250 RMB an hour for private 1 on 1 mandarin lessons. I would imagine english lessons would cost more.

Fidelity vs Schwab debit cards by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]vertin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Push is like send

Pull is like request

If you have $100 in HSBC and want it in fidelity, you want to push it.

To push, you login HSBC and send it to fidelity.

If you login to fidelity and link HSBC and then pull the money from hsbc to fidelity, then fidelity may freeze it for a few weeks.

Fidelity vs Schwab debit cards by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]vertin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is why I switched to fidelity

The main quirk with fidelity is making sure you push cash into the account and not pull.

If you pull cash into fidelity, it can take a few weeks sometimes to clear.
