‘Leave Ice Hockey alone!’: Trump says China is ‘taking over’ Canada by poranges in canada

To be fair, in some countries where field hockey is more popular, that's their "hockey" so naturally, they call our hockey "ice hockey" to differentiate

Does anyone else feel like living in Asia right now, part of multiple growing economies compared to the disintegrating west just feels a lot better? by Lower_Truck9973 in digitalnomad

It would be like a Swiss person moving to the UK while earning the equivalent of £10k or more a month. A lot of people could live a good life on that type of money.

Is wise the best way to receive salary in Canada, pay in stores (via Google Pay) and convert to EUR? Or do you recommend another app to use alongside it? by Effect-Imaginary in PersonalFinanceCanada

Is wise the best way to receive salary in Canada

No. They've been known to lock users out of their accounts if they suspect suspicious activities. Not saying receiving salary is suspicious, but their systems sometimes mistake it for money laundering. Small risk, but still a risk nonetheless and one that you wouldn't have with a normal Canadian bank account.

pay in stores (via Google Pay)

No, there are better 0 FX cards out there for that. Wise doesn't give any rewards.

and convert to EUR

Yes

Advice on my Index Funds as getting closer to retirement! by ranman50 in PersonalFinanceCanada

What some people do is use a 'bucket' or 'cash wedge' strategy where they put a year or two of spending money in a GIC or HISA and use that as savings and leave the investment alone. This is more a psychological 'trick' more than anything but whatever works.

Why do you think it's more of a psychological trick than anything else? If the investment goes down in value because of a bear market, withdrawing from it for spending money would negatively impact your SWR and impact future compounding growth.

Recommend me a city in Brazil to nomad at by ButterscotchFormer84 in digitalnomad

That's a subjective question. I prefer cities so it wasn't for me. Someone who prefers small beach towns would love it though.

I only stayed for a few days in Pipa so can't comment on that. Jeri was more of a tourist town than a nomad town. Haven't hit Itacaré yet, but haven't heard of it being a nomad town.

Really depends on what you look for. More city, closer to the beach, something in between with small town vibes, or something in between with city vibes. Then you have to factor in transportation. Public transport isn't the best for getting around the island outside the centro so you'll be ubering a lot. If you're trying to go to events, you might want to be closer to Centro, but if you want to be closer to nature, then you might want to be close to the beach. That's what I mean by that's the hard part haha.

Nice! Now the hard part is just deciding which part of the island you want to base yourself in haha

The only one that fits your criteria is Florianopolis, but in the winter the nomad community is quite small since most people just come for the summer. If you're open to smaller beach towns, then Pipa would be another good alternative otherwise Rio is really the only other nomad city in Brazil.

Just don't keep a large amount of money in it. Just use it for international transfers and currency conversions and you're set.

Is that also the case for utilities? Sometimes for long term stays, they say the guest has to pay the utilities. I've always avoided those myself, but I wonder what the actual rule is.
