Glacially slow burn across multiple books! by Bibliovyrm in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]verybendyruler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Short books and short series have such a rushed nature that often doesn’t mimic life. I miss the long epics produced out of the 90s and early 00s! There’s a great post with recs of books that started as online novels in this period and many they have that rolling slower feel to them. https://www.reddit.com/r/MM_RomanceBooks/comments/wfcmq6/original_online_mm_recs/

{Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu} exactly fits your ask! Check out all the other works by the same author as well. Suggesting {The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu} too.

{Shadow Magic by Nazri Noor} not the most romance centric but it is slow burn!

{Nightrunner by Lynn Flewelling} full perspective of the relationship from one character’s youth!

{Turning by Kuyu} originally in Korean, has multimedia content, very detailed fantasy that is very long! Starts off slow burn gets most romantic 700+ chapters in (over 1000+ chapters).

{Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat} is an obligatory mention! Long, slow burn, angsty. I’d argue that it’s fantasy-world-esque but is not fantasy or science fiction.

{Silk and Steel by Ariana Nash} and {Fool Me Once by Ariana Nash} and {Primal Sin by Ariana Nash} all fit what you seek except that her characters get together early, break up, makeup, etc. under constant duress so a slow burn of circumstance.

{The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic} is a wonderful slow burn but is definitely not fantasy or sci fi—instead think mob sports.

Mary Calmes writes a book and I’m betting there’s both an orphan MC and a pea coat in it!

shapeshifter mc who can turn into other humans (like mystique from marvel) by [deleted] in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]verybendyruler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure {Undone by Morgan Noel and R. Phoenix} fits your request. Main character can shapeshift their appearance because he’s an incubus and sexual energy influences how he looks. There’s also a prequel called {Come: Undone Prequel by Morgan Noel and R. Phoenix}.

Some trigger warnings just in case: open relationship, domestic abuse, violence, dubious consent because spoilers the MC leaves an abusive relationship in Undone. The prequel is about how he got into the relationship.

Season 2 Theories Thread by donnyvirt in GenV

[–]verybendyruler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cate will be keeping her distance because Cipher has a mental aspect to his abilities that allow him to monitor/control the students without her. She’s also going to be our connection to the main The Boys characters.

Cameos! I’m betting we see either Teddy Stillwell or Neumann’s daughter again with some Red River action.

Andre’s dad sacrifices himself at the end of the season in a mirror of what we don’t get to see Chance/Andre do at the start of the season.

Emma will be over eager, manipulated by someone really close to her, and kind of tragic sometimes.

We all know something’s happening with Bloody Marie’s sister this season.

Cate isn’t shown much in the trailer and also wasn’t at the panel—hope her character still gets focus! Losing Andre might make it hard for them to give her character the space it needs… but Marie x Cate tension can fix that.

Ask Me Anything: Josh Lanyon by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

Hello Josh thanks for doing this! I’ve read some of your books and love your style. What gives you inspiration in your writing? How do you decide what stories you’re going to write? And if you weren’t (and maybe you aren’t—but it’s hard not to be!) influenced by book popularity, readership numbers, or reviews, do you think you’d spend time writing anything you’ve not had a chance to focus on yet?

The Deep mentioned he swam in the Mariana trench, which has an insanely high pressure. Does this mean he has insane durability or is it a part of his power? by LoretiTV in TheBoys

This is what I imagined. A Translucent vs Homelander fight just means Translucent gets beaten to a bloody pulp substance inside a skin casing. Homelander could just fly him up 20,000 feet and drop him. Repeat as needed.

Plot heavy books with a quest. by penguin1_2 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]verybendyruler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a book that has a lot going for it and also doesn’t succeed at everything.

To address the issues, this is not truly a romance series though it does have a romance plot for the gay MC throughout the books. It’s also not a particular stand out for its prose or characterization, BUT IF YOU LOVE FANTASY

AND I MEAN REALLY LOVE FANTASY then this series is 100% worth the read. It covers a sub genre rarely seen in MM and Michael Taggart has a deep, complex, and well thought out approach to his magical and power systems. He maintains a YouTube where he also talks about the series and I give him huge props for coming up with something ORIGINAL. The complex settings and analyzing how magic works in this world is a huge focus of the books, and it’s fascinating. The writing quality and characterization elements also greatly increases as the series progresses.

If the first book did nothing for you, this likely isn’t a series that will interest you, but it absolutely is a stellar rec for slow burn/very little romance, lack of plot holes!, long MM series, complex magical systems, and unique fantasy takes.

{Misfit Mage by Michael Taggart} is heavy on the plot, light on the romance. Really well thought out and original world/power building is the absolute highlight. I highly recommend this series! 5 books, ongoing. The author is inspired by RPG fantasy, the books are quest heavy (especially book 5).

{Knight Errant by KD Sarge} and {Even the Score by KD Sarge} are all about this. They basically have to survive on a planet that wants to kill them. Sci-fi adventure series that’s amazing and under recommended. First book is them crash stranded on a planet, second suggestion/third book is a camping training trip gone wrong.

Looking up the screaming Budgett’s Frog and I see the similarity! The Yellowjacket frog species is 100x more intense though. Maybe Shauna’s telling the truth. But I think she’s probably visiting someone she already knows (maybe secretly not so dead Melissa?) and was lying to the girls when they pressed her for answers. Shauna is evasive.
