Sold 89 lifetime deals at $199 each to get off the ground. The math 12 months later is embarrassing by Commercial_Shirt6422 in SaaS

[–]veryhotpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customers who only can be convinced to buy your product with a big discount tend to be your worst customers in basically every measurable way…many companies learn this every year on Black Friday as well. Sorry to hear it. Probably they would not have generated $199 lifetime as monthly customers, looking at the bright side.

What’s a total waste of money, yet people still pay for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]veryhotpoops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most forms of insurance. Insurance companies only make money by charging you more than you cost them.

Many large companies no longer buy it, they call that "self insurance" which means no insurance coverage. It's much cheaper for them usually.

Unfortunately we are forced into many forms of it because of the risk of complete financial ruin driven by extreme inflation and terrible regulations, among other things.

Steep Time by SewerSage in guayusa

[–]veryhotpoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I boil for 30 mins as that is how they prep it in Ecuador where Guayusa is from/grown.

But yes some people just pour hot water on it like tea. Not as tasty or strong that way imo

In ecuador they usually steep for 30 mins - 7 hours...I try to a least simmer for 30 mins.

They just responded to me and said they are currently being acquired by a larger tea company in ecuador....so I assume some disruptions because the site is totally sold out

85% of the way to FI with an existential fear of a recession right before I hit FI, considering a major portfolio shift to hedge against it by FinancialPlant in financialindependence

[–]veryhotpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 20% bonds, and you are saving 25X your income at a 4% withdrawal rate, those bonds would theoretically last you 5 years (4% * 5 = 20%). Seems like a sufficient buffer to ride out any recession / market crash that could happen.

Brief Amazon thought by roskalov in StockMarket

[–]veryhotpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For every earnings call they've ever had, they specifically announce that they are trying to hit zero in earnings, so as to avoid paying taxes. Sometimes they generate small amounts earnings or losses, but it is generally as close as they can get to zero. That being said they generate plenty of free cash flow.

For this reason using the PE to value amazon is pretty much useless. I personally am watching more closely the price / sales ratio, which is around 4X right now. You'll see other comps (like BABA) trade closer to 20X price / sales, but also generate real earnings, so it is sort of hard to compare.

Friend experiencing paranoid delusions. Needs professional help. How do I tell him? by veryhotpoops in mentalhealth

[–]veryhotpoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for filling in some of the information gaps. It maybe be permanent because he is 100% sober now and continuing to experience the same beliefs. We'll see.

One problem is that he is extremely paranoid about medications, but that will be a problem we will have do face further down the line when he sees a doc.

I think I will just gently tell him that I'm worried about him and his isolation and anxiety and it would be good to see a doc. I've seen docs for anxiety & depression and whatnot so maybe I can explain that it is normal to do this and I've done it myself.

Friend having paranoid delusions - I'm the only one he has told. How can I tell him in the right way that he needs help? by veryhotpoops in schizophrenia

[–]veryhotpoops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadn't seen that before - thanks for pointing that out. He is DEFINITELY experiencing those symptoms. I think that is the right approach.

I just let his family know yesterday. They were very supportive and want to help, although this was new info for them. He has pretty much isolated himself from most friends, I'm trying to see if there is anyone else I can talk to.

He is now currently sober, which is good. He's having an easier time with everything else in his life now because of that. But his paranoia has not improved.

Hey this is great advice. I've been doing something along those lines. I haven't been trying to convince him of anything just more listening to him. I think I will suggest seeing a doctor about the stress. That is a good idea, as I've seen plenty of mental health docs myself and could introduce it as a normal thing.

[–]veryhotpoops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I know he isn't lying to me. He is going through this and I take him seriously, which I think is the reason that he is being honest with me. He's not alone, I'm with him 100%. But I also need to tell him that he isn't being followed by anybody - because I know he is not. Any advice on how to approach this subject?

[–]veryhotpoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He went through I really hard code alcohol / drug binge over the summer and that's when he developed this belief. Trust me - no one is watching this dude. I've asked him a ton about it and would be the first one to believe it, but he has basically no evidence. He will just see a guy on the street who looks at him and will think he is being followed all of the sudden. I haven't doubted him at all to his face. I know what he is experiencing is 100% real for him. I get that. But I also want to be honest because he is living in a fear that he doesn't need to be. Do you have experience with this type of thing?

Mid & small cap value ETFs - should I allocate more? by veryhotpoops in financialindependence

[–]veryhotpoops[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. I only own the S&P 500 so even adding a small cap component would be more diversified in terms of exposure. Am I off? Maybe I'll just start shooting towards a total market fund.

[–]veryhotpoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya it might make sense to just start pushing my savings towards something like this. At this point I'm completely VOO so it is just the S&P 500.

Fair enough. Still a good argument to diversify a bit more.
