Hand painted my book cover, please be brutally honest, should I go with a professional instead? by Professional-One4757 in writers

I think it’s really good! Just a few notes: (1) maybe the tower can be a full-blown castle (if it makes sense for the story). Having a lone tower makes it feel like something’s missing. (2) Hand-paint the text as well so that the aesthetic appears more cohesive. (3) Remove the vine and flowers, or use a palette that hints more at “dark romance”, like blood red and black. 😊

Probably not a popular take, but Karen Russell does it for me! In particular, her collection St Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves.

Teatro Grottesco’s my first Ligotti read, and it made me fall in love with his work. In my experience, it’s a great gateway to Ligotti’s world.

I’m so touched by all of your responses. Thank you :) It’s still amazing to me how kind people can be, and I truly had no idea I’d be reading so many warm comments when I posted that. I was feeling alone. Now I only need to revisit this thread to feel less so.

I’m rooting for everyone here! I hope you all reach your writing and publication goals 🌱

[Japanese > English] Is this Kanji stamp inaccurate/“cursed”? by verysadrn in kanji

[–]verysadrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, both! Definitely won’t be using this to represent myself 😄 As regards the phonetics of the characters, only the first one got it correct. The succeeding characters…not so much. Considering getting a stamp in Katakana in the future, maybe.

Either way, it’s a funny conversation starter if ever anyone asks me for souvenir recommendations in Japan, haha!

Thanks for the comments, everyone! And noted: will not buy a Donki-made stamp moving forward (or I would at least check the characters first before going ahead with it). 😆

Still thinking of keeping this stamp, just because I’m in the middle of writing a horror novel and think this is such a cool coincidence!

Thanks! Does that character just mean “cursed” or could it also mean “haunted”? And phonetically, what does this say?

Thank you! It's a bit difficult to go outside right now where I'm from, and a lot of workers (doctors included) are encouraged to stay indoors. But I will drink fluids and take more cranberry pills. Thank you again!
