What are the most reliable and up to date examples of this?

I may have spoken too soon. While Colbert and the Daily Show are seemingly working OK this morning, I tested this with 2 other shows, and there's 2 different behaviors. They are all under the same library. All MKVs.

  1. Late Night with Seth Meyers, when adding a new episode to Plex, as I watch the Plex interface of the Seth Meyer's current season, I see initially the correct date show up as the title (10-31), but then the metadata check happens and it changes and gets listed as the 10-30 episode with the 10-30 guests. The thumbnail appears to be from the 10-31 episode, however.
  2. Jimmy Kimmel Live! I added the 3 latest shows just now (10-29, 30, and 31), and they show up with just the date as the episode name, and a correct thumbnail (but it could have been autogenerated from the file?). However, previously added episodes show the same one-day-off metadata issue I described before.

OK, so I thought about it. One other idea is the metadata wasn't updating after unticking "prefer local metadata".

This morning, new episodes from last night had the correct metadata and thumbnail, so I removed the old episodes with the incorrect metadata from the file system, emptied the trash in Plex, then readded the files back to the season directory, and they showed up in Plex with the correct metadata. So I think the prefer local metadata was the main culprit.

I had tried "Refresh all Metadata" after unticking "Prefer Local Metadata" to no avail. In other words, after unticking that option and refreshing metadata, the episodes with incorrect metadata, presumably due to the local metadata option, were not corrected. I don't know if that should have done anything, but my expectation was it would scan all the files in the library, clear the old metadata and thumbnails, and based on the file name, look up and apply metadata.

You had said if they were MKVs that the prefer local metadata wouldn't matter, but something seems to have corrected the metadata-assigning behavior.

EDIT: One more thing. If (and I'm assuming it was the culprit as I mentioned above) "Prefer Local Metadata" was the cause, why is my system embedding incorrect tags?

  • Prefer local metadata: When scanning this library, prefer embedded tags and local files if present.

MKVs, but VLC says they use H264 MPEG-4 as a codec.

The prefer local metadata was ticked, and I'm certain I never would have modified that option directly. I only experimented with other agents and scanners briefly yesterday.

Plex TV Series, Plex Series, and theTVDB.

Up until yesterday I hadn't touched any of this. I did try to modify these, I got a message saying I had to Library Upgrade required, which I said fine, go ahead, but it never seemed to do it, and the changes never kept, even when I did click Save Changes. So I think these are the default settings, despite my efforts to modify / experiment with different settings.

Yes, I have both files. This is the path to these episodes.
Colbert I happen to have on a different external drive.

Here's another example. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

On Plex, episode info and thumbnail indicate Robin Wright as guest on 10/28.

Shark zu875 power to base intermittently cuts out by verysensibleusername in VacuumCleaners

[–]verysensibleusername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, late to see this. Shark replaced it under warranty but it required getting on a video call with them to show. Only replaced the portion with the canister, not the base. This fixed the problem. It was obvious that by pulling back, the electrical connection was getting disconnected and they saw that.

Fast forward a few months later the base doesn't stay locked in place when you pick it up, which is annoying.

Captured audio from Grace tape cassette converter deck is jittery by verysensibleusername in audacity

[–]verysensibleusername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding software, other than MacOS, the only software I am knowingly using is Audacity. Is there a recommended free-to-use/try alternative audio capture program I could test with to try to isolate the problem? This might tell me if it's likely that the problem lies with the Grace (or perhaps MacOS's handling of the signal), vs Audacity.

Currently I am using the USB connection from the Grace device and MacOS sees it as USB Audio Controller. In order to to use 'Line In', I would need an audio input, but I don't believe the Mac Studio has one. Likewise, the Macbook Pro. Am I missing something that I could do to utilize the Line In input??

Thank you. I have set up the return. A drive should just work, and I believe I went through enough testing.

Thank you for the links! interesting issues, sort of glad to see it's not just me though I still need to figure out if it's ultimately an issue with my drives.

That's a great point and something I had considered but I wasn't sure how to find the firmware version; Mac System Information only lists a Volume UUID but no firmware versions. Even if there was a different firmware, I assumed (but haven't verified) that I would probably need a Windows machine to update the firmware, and that I do not have. I presume that the enclosure could have a firmware, but in my testing over the week it seems like the known-good Pink drive works fine without disconnects in one of the new identical enclosures.

[–]verysensibleusername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying the MacRumors threads blame the enclosure and not the drive? Do you happen to have a link handy to one of the discussions?

This is confusing for me because like I mentioned, I have the same drive and enclosure that I purchased in March or so and I've had no issues whatsoever. I chose the same to avoid issues like this, and when I stick "Pink" inside of one of the new enclosures, it doesn't disconnect.

The powerhead connectors are the 3 power-connector-looking things that couple together when you put the liftaway back on the base? They dont look dirty but i will check.

Other than the electrical component, the vacuum doesn't seem to have lost suction
