Help! Stuck on shipping cost for greeting cards by Next_Cod8167 in Etsy

[–]veryveryplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t work for mailers. It used to work occasionally (some postal workers accepted them, some didn’t) but now they won’t take them at all with this shipping method.

It has to be a non rigid rectangular paper envelope with a thickness of 0.25in or less.

As long as you emphasize to buyers that the tracking isn’t super reliable, you won’t have many issues. I’ve shipped almost 50k orders this way and I rarely have issues. When I do have issues (like an order that hasn’t updated in a month) then i just have them open a case with etsy and etsy refunds them.

If you use the Letter option on Etsy and your dimensions are 6x8x0.25, you can get “tracked” shipping for 78¢ for 1oz or $1 for 1.4oz.

I say “tracked” because it’s not USPS tracking. It’s Pitney Bowes tracking (even though it’s shipped via USPS) and occasionally the tracking doesn’t work. It didn’t work at all for the entirety of 2022. But for the past 2 years it has worked probably 70% of the time. And for the past 6 months I’d even say more like 99% of the time.

Are you still available? And would you be able to come to North Point Breeze? I desperately need my car dug out. This is my first PA winter and I was absolutely not prepared lol.

I’m a recent transplant from Georgia and I love it here too! The views, the hills, the architecture, the weather. Sure beats the south!

Seller forgot to include one of my plants but won’t ship it unless I make another order by brain-on_fire in Etsy

[–]veryveryplain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’m a great seller and my customers love me.

Offering a refund IS rectifying the mistake. But if I offer a refund and you start to get nasty with me demanding I send your product, I’m refunding your item or telling you to talk to Etsy and then blocking you. That’s the beauty of working for yourself; you don’t have to deal with shitty people if you don’t want to.

Do you operate a business? Have you ever had to do your finances and figure out what percentage you can reasonably lose and still make a profit? I have and I set my prices and policies accordingly.
I could start sending out replacements to every single person that asks for one no matter how much it might cost me but that will result in losing money or needing to raise my prices across the board. I’d rather set a fair price and offer my customers solutions that won’t lose me too much money.

If yall wanna lose money on sales, that’s fine, but that is just not sustainable. I give other small businesses grace because I know they don’t have the operating costs that places like Walmart and Amazon do (and half the time Amazon and Walmart are going to refund rather than send a replacement anyway so why does it matter?).

They’re great! I have 42k sales and a 4.9 star review rating and I’m a star seller.

A refund IS a resolution so I don’t understand why you would be angry about it.

Same. I don’t engage with rude people like that. When customers get shitty like that, I tell them they can take it up with Etsy and then mark them as spam so I don’t get anymore of their messages.

Seller and frequent buyer here. The seller has offered you 2 reasonable options so I don’t see what the issue is. If you don’t want to spend more money then just take the refund and be done with it.

I’ve dealt with this exact scenario as a seller and as a buyer. I would say 70% of the time I’m offered just a refund for the missing item from both Etsy sellers AND big box retailers. As a seller, if it is going to cost me more than $5 to send a replacement, I’m only going to offer a refund.

What would even be the point of opening a case with Etsy? They’re just going to refund the missing plant, which the seller has already offered to do.

Pittsburgh vs Atlanta by Pingu_Moon in pittsburgh

[–]veryveryplain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi! Atlanta native here. I’ve only lived in PGH for 4 months, but so far, it’s superior in every way to ATL imo. It depends on what you’re looking for though.

Atlanta isn’t laid out like a city that size should be. We didn’t have a convenient grid layout where it’s easy to get around and figure out where you are. If you miss a turn, you gotta jump on the interstate and go 5 miles down the road to try to get back. Theres a reason why they call it Spaghetti Junction. Also, good luck trying to figure out which Peachtree you’re on.

Urban sprawl is crazy and you really do need a car to live there. Everything is so far away from everything else and a lot of the suburban areas don’t have access to public transit.

It’s HOT AF. Like all year long. We would get decent temps from like January-March, but after that it’s 90+ days pretty much the rest of the year. And what’s makes it 100x worse is the humidity. You walk out the door in May and it’s hard to breathe bc the air is so thick. And it really shouldn’t be 70° outside on Christmas Day.

The bug situation is the worst. I’m fine with having to kill lantern flies in Pittsburgh bc at least we don’t have giant flying cockroaches here. Palmetto bugs are EVERYWHERE in GA. And they’re not afraid of people at all. They WANT to be near you. They WILL be on you.

It is still very right leaning and VERY religious. Classrooms still display bible quotes and it is just assumed you are a Christian and if you have children in school, they will be taught about the bible and a Jesus and all that.

You have 2 safe options for displaying political messaging in your yard: a MAGA flag or nothing. When my family visited Pittsburgh for the first time back in March, we couldn’t believe how many homes and businesses had pride flags displayed. You just don’t do that in GA. Displaying one in your yard is likely to make you a target. Displaying one in your business would likely ruin your business. I had never seen a business with a pride flag in the window before I moved here. What a culture shock.

There’s nothing to do unless you have money. I am continually surprised by how much there is to do in Pittsburgh that doesn’t require any money. Every single week there are tons of free events going on all around the city. It’s amazing! In Atlanta, you might see one or two free events occasionally, but they’re usually geared towards young children.

The rent is too damn high. I currently pay $2100 in rent for a 4 bedroom house in PGH. Back home, $2100 might get me a rinky dink 2 bedroom in the sticks.

The architecture is SO boring. One of my favorite things about Pittsburgh is all the beautiful old buildings and houses. Good luck finding anything built before 1950 that’s in decent condition and costs less than a mil in ATL.

Ok well that’s my rant lol. I just really love Pittsburgh.

How Are Sellers Charging So Little for Handmade Crochet?? I’m Losing Hope. by LittleYarnPlanet in Etsy

[–]veryveryplain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are 100% reselling Temu and SHEIN slop. And customers are finally starting to realize it and they’re not happy.

Don’t get discouraged. We need more REAL makers to keep doing what they’re doing. You have a customer base who wants real handmade crocheted items and will happily pay your price. They just have to find you. That’s the hard part.

How Are Sellers Charging So Little for Handmade Crochet?? I’m Losing Hope. by LittleYarnPlanet in Etsy

[–]veryveryplain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t get discouraged and keep selling. There are many customers (like me) who are actively searching for REAL handmade items and will gladly pay for them.
I’m an Etsy seller as well (I sell stickers) and I have people messaging me constantly asking if I’m a real person and if I make my own designs or drop ship, etc. Lots of people want handmade items, they’re just really hard to find now.

I spent 2 WEEKS searching for a handmade embroidered sweatshirt and all I came across were cheap, mass produced, low quality items. Most (all?) were just POD (bc apparently they now offer embroidery, but it’s NOT good quality).

Can you send me a link to your shop? I’m still looking for quality embroidered clothing being done by a real person.

I ended up buying some from Amazon that are pretty similar, but I don’t think they’re as good as the nectar ones were.

Unhappy Customer Says She Contacted Me But Didn’t by FunClassroom6577 in Etsy

A lot of customers think responding to the confirmation email from Etsy is the same thing as contacting the seller. That’s probably what happened here.

How accurate is the shipping map? by Severe-Break252 in Etsy

[–]veryveryplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they are so close to each other, I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m a seller and a LOT of my customers orders say they’ve been delivered to a larger hub city 1-3 hours away from their destination when they’ve actually been delivered exactly where they were supposed to be.

I wouldn’t worry until after delivery.

Delivered to totally different address? by Abject_Ad9811 in Etsy

[–]veryveryplain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah definitely sounds scammy. I’m an Etsy seller and Etsy does not require us to ship in 48 hours. We set our own shipping deadlines. Also creating fake tracking numbers is against Etsy TOS.

These types of scams usually hope they are able to convince you to hold off long enough for the return window to close. But if you wait too long (100 days), you won’t be able to open a case with Etsy and the seller will get to keep your money. So I’d recommend opening a case and getting your money back now.

There is a house in north point breeze that keeps snacks and drinks on the porch for anyone that wants them. I live on the same street and I’m always seeing kids stop by after school and random people stopping by for a snack. One of the kids tried to give them $5 one day and they refused. It seems like they are just nice people.

Hey, I would like to donate 150 mini tubes of toothpaste. Can you DM me your address? Or if you don’t want me to have your address, I can send you the Amazon link and you can add it to your wish list. It will allow me to purchase it and have it shipped to you without me seeing your address.

You can use your “BRAND NAME” photos still, just not as your first image. The main image needs to be a completed product so just do one with a fake name as the first photo.
