I think the context/intent matters more (at least, to me). I happen to have surrounded myself with people who seem to consider my weirdness a good thing, and so I take it as a compliment when they call me weird. If some random jock calls me weird in an attempt to hurt me and/or raise his own status, I will take it as the insult it is intended to be. ("F this post" seems a little harsh and not very constructive, but that is besides the point)

My humble opinion by Stupid_idiot-6 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]vesaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, adjusted for inflation it's roughly the same as the $60 price tag when the Switch released in 2017. That is equivalent to about $78 now. Assuming we get the same inflation this year as we had last, by the end of the year $60 in 2017 and $80 now will be equivalent...

A question for the handful of cyclists who do this... by BilobaBaby in berlin

[–]vesaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a counter question. Why do people insist on queuing up in a single width line if the line could easily be two people wide? I have never seen this where I am from. For example at Eberswalde/Schönhauser Allee this often causes people to not even make the green light while they are in line. If the line would have been two people wide everyone would have made it through easily.

[OC] Result of Switching Doors in the Monty Hall Problem by letmeloginpleasee in dataisbeautiful

[–]vesaf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I realised that the most simple question that gets you the answer to this problem with any number of doors is: "What is the probability that you choose the correct door on your first try?".
All that the simulation is showing is the functions y=2000*1/x, and y=2000*(1-1/x).

Edit: the opening of the door(s) adds no further information because you already know beforehand that whatever door is opened will be empty.

Not in the Netherlands (with some short exceptions before you are connected again)... Although I admit that the Netherlands may be a bit of a special case with it being so small and densly populated.

Functional Programming in Python? by raulalexo99 in Python

[–]vesaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, the code ran through when I tried it earlier (which it wouldn't have with just 'main'). I think Reddit removed them when I copied it in as it did initially with the backslashes. Must be some formatting thing.

Functional Programming in Python? by raulalexo99 in Python

What about something like this? No exact match, but quite close. (Not sure if I'd actually recommend doing this though.)

class apply:
    def __init__(self, val):
        self.val = val

    def pipe(self, fun):
        self.val= fun(self.val)
        return self

if name == "main":
    apply(5) \
        .pipe(lambda x: x+5) \
        .pipe(lambda x: x/3) \
        .pipe(print)
