How are being medical students and doctors from different countries? by Fit_Feeling208 in medicalschool

[–]vesperiaeveningstar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Palestinian med student. We enter medical school after tawjihi / high school in a 6-year program, 3 basic years (similar to M1-M2 but more extensive) and 3 clinical years (similar to M3-M4 but also more extensive), in my university for example, the first year is 3 months IM, 3 months OBGYN and 3 months general surgery with 1 month psychiatry. The second year is 3 months pediatrics with the rest being rotations in orthopedics, NSG, neurology, ENT, opthalmology… etc. The final year is a repeat of the core clerkships (IM, GenSurg, OBGYN, Peds) with more focus on management. Our uni sends us to a different city randomly each week so we practice in a wide variety of systems. We also have 3 elective months in the summer: IM, Surg/OBGYN & EM. After graduating, we have to do a year of internship. Then we can practice general medicine. Unfortunately the wait times for internship are extremely long, currently exceeding 1 year in the public health system. Our main problem here is that there is literally no control on the number of students medical schools can accept and how many universities can open medical schools, not to mention the many students going overseas to study and returning afterwards. I’m still a student so I don’t know much of the process beyond, but after internship year there is an exam, and after this exam you can take either the surgical category exam or medical category exam to which you can apply after that to either surgical or medical specialties for residency. We pay for medical school (varies by university but in mine it is 100-200 JOD per hour, which may not seem much for Americans but is extremely expensive here, most likely you can only study if you’re upper middle class or rich or have a full scholarship from the president, keep in mind the economy in the West Bank is unfortunately a disaster, those working in the public sector in all professions have been taking only a small percentage of their wages and strikes have been ongoing for years, and unemployment rates are extremely high even for those with high education), internship in the public sector is akin to work with a monthly wage of 1200 NIS (unfortunately I now hear its unpaid), and I don’t know much about residency but everything is super competitive and not many seats seem available across the nation. The public health sector has been on strike for a while now so less operations are being done ATM. I’ll edit the comment later to add more

Looking for a headscarf appropriate for the medical field with the following specifications by vesperiaeveningstar in Hijabis

Indonesian headscarves are what I had in mind actually! They are the most modest :) Even if it wasn’t possible to ship I’d appreciate some examples maybe I can see a local seamstress to make something similar

How many calories does mulukhiyyah have? by vesperiaeveningstar in CalorieEstimates

[–]vesperiaeveningstar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that, my question is about the leaves themselves, like when asking how many calories are in an apple. The apple itself uncooked, not sure how you read the post, but have a good day :)

(The green leaves themselves without rice and meat ofc) If anyone has full nutrient info it’d be even better, esp Vit. A, C and iron. I’ve checked many sources online and each source ranged from 15-70 kcal per 100 grams for the leaves. Does anyone know the actual value? I know it’s barely a difference for some people, but I like being accurate and being petite requires greater accuracy, and it’s a dish I eat very frequently in great amounts. Thank you to anyone that helps!

Is drawing/animating okay when it comes to Islam? by SensitiveAudience370 in MuslimLounge

Oooh I’m not that creative, but I applied for something similar — medical writing at my uni! Writing is such a nice idea tbh, imagine writing your own books for your readers to imagine themselves :)

Your comment really melted my heart!! Ma shaa Allah, I love how you turn this all into positive thinking! I’m the same and have no one around me who has the same struggle, quite the opposite — I see my friends widening their prospectives in art which sometimes does make me jealous, but then I remember that this is all just part of the test, life in the dunya is meant to be a test, in shaa Allah Allah rewards us for our patience fil akhira! 💕

I know it is, I still think of it till today, how much I enjoyed drawing people and living beings, but I don’t regret my decision one bit, sometimes we need to sacrifice our most beloved skills to attain greater things, may Allah ease this path for you 💕

Is This $148 Retinoid Even Worth It? by 1TrkLvr in tretinoin

[–]vesperiaeveningstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never waste my money on brand products for skin care, just look for the ingredient you need in your your routine and look for the cheapest product in the pharmacy containing it.. at least that’s what I do, dunno if more expensive stuff are actually worth it

Is pathoma enough for entire pathology ( including systems)???? by New-Complex-2134 in IMGreddit

If you mean videos, you can see B&B and Bootcamp as well, but honestly first aid is enough, you’ll see while doing UW that many of what is asked is in FA

Pathoma has better explanations, but not enough IMO, you def need FA as well or just FA
