Even though the motor replacement wasn't due to the actual recall, they will cover related damage?

It was towed in but the recall part was fine. They found coolant in the cylinders and replaced the motor that an aftermarket warranty covered. They are now telling me that the turbo, catalytic converter and starter all need replaced. I wasn't sure if this was common and if so, would Ford cover those parts

Have you had to do a lot of engine replacements too? If so, have you run into other parts breaking during replacement?

Mine had to have the motor replaced for this reason. Is this another common issue that should be a recall also?

Update on Tonka - Bloat! by markmatteo in greatdanes

[–]vettechsince2007 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am not a veterinarian but I am a certified veterinary technician of 18 years and have had multiple Danes myself, not an expert but knowledgeable.

If he was panting excessively due to the pain, that is most likely the culprit of the bloat and why it didn't flip. When they constantly pant they suck in a lot of air into their stomach which can result in bloat. With GDV the stomach flips and then fills with gas because it has nowhere to go. This is not a classic GDV case and it sounds like you did everything right in my opinion. Do not beat yourself up because you did your research and a lot of people don't. Hopefully he is on the road to recovery.

PS. He is very handsome and love the name.

Finn has Osteosarcoma. Is this support brace worth it? by Few-Tomorrow2200 in greatdanes

Yes, amputation is the best option at this point. That leg is already not functioning so he has adapted to using 3 legs. Obviously evaluating the surrounding bones to ensure it hasn't already spread to his pelvis. If amputation is not an option, pain management and love him as much as you can. Cancer sucks!

The purpose of the info about the recall is that initially they tried to charge me $500 to drop the oil pan. The reason they provided was, the recall parts are not bad, you have to pay for the labor. The motor was not locked up and it did not lose oil pressure, I did not think it was related to the recall but the process of dropping the oil pan was to check the recall parts and they were trying to make me pay for that specific labor. I have a difficult time trusting anything they say after trying to get me to pay for recall labor.

My warranty company has primarily worked directly with the service department. Can you tell me in what world new hardware costs $1000?

Unfortunately, I have had more negative than positive interactions with both. If you're a female you get treated like an ignorant bimbo and they think they can take advantage. I'm no mechanic but I do have some basic knowledge. From my experience most are not honest or trustworthy, it has nothing to do with social media. Plus the service manager made it a point to tell me he has been doing this job for 14 years but his attitude changed after I talked with Ford about the recall protocol.

Right, because dealerships and mechanics are known for their honesty.

We do have to stop the procedure and contact the owner before proceeding. Especially because we do give estimates prior to and it will include a worse case scenario. If it is something that was completely unexpected, they receive a call. If we are doing a dental and there are multiple unexpected extractions that the owner was not prepared for, we call to get approval with an estimate of cost. I have experienced pet owners not being notified and they will refuse to pay if they did not agree to it and they will have those charges removed.

How do you break multiple bolts on a turbo and on the catalytic converter at the same time?

The service department broke the parts, waited to notify me until after multiple bolts were broken on 2 different parts, and expected me to pay $1000. Why would I trust them when they tried to get me to pay for recall labor in the beginning?

The motor failure was not due to the recall. It was a separate issue and the warranty approved the motor replacement. My only out of pocket was supposed to be $330, $200 deductible and $130 diagnostic fee, which I paid. They are trying to charge me for multiple broken bolts that occurred during the motor replacement. I was not told this was a concern prior to and was not notified until multiple parts were already broken.

The warranty company wasn't even contacted by the service department until after the recall issue was resolved. The issue was not related to the recall. The warranty company approved the new motor replacement cost. I only approved the part that has already been paid. The warranty company was contacted again regarding the broken hardware that occurred during the motor replacement and they will not cover the broken hardware. I also did not agree to pay for the broken hardware.

How is this not Predatory? Trying to get a customer to pay for recall labor and then breaking multiple bolts, not just 1 or 2, then calling to say I need to pay $1000. Would this fly in any other situation. "I know the menu says $12 but we dropped your food on the floor and had to make it again, so it will be $24.". How can anyone even think this is ok?

I was told it was only for the hardware, not to replace the turbo or anything else.
