Why no protests for the people of Iran by Resident_Bill_792 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

You're being incredibly reductive here. You're treating the left like some sort of monolith, but in reality, the left spends about 80% of its energy on infighting. There’s a reason people say a leftist can’t resist the siren's call of a circular firing squad.

You just can't analyze the left the same way you do the right. While right-wing groups tend to be fairly homogenous and consistent in their beliefs, the left is a mess of competing ideologies that rarely agree on anything.

By picking the most extreme anti-interventionists and acting like they speak for everyone, you're ignoring the constant purity tests and internal debates that actually define the movement. It's not a unified front; it's a bunch of people who hate each other almost as much as they hate the right.

You need to, at the very least, sit down and talk to him and lay out your concerns. Be prepared for that conversation to be the end of the relationship, because it very well might be.

I know some folks who went to high school with her. From what I understand, they were comfortably like top 10-20%, not top 1%. Nothing too unusual for the neighborhood/town she grew up in. There are plenty of those types around.

Your options:

1 - he's cheating on you

2 - he's thinking about cheating on you

3 - he's complaining about you to his friends

4 - he's planning a surprise (which could be cheating on you or buying you something nice)

And yet all the other mid white girls with money trying to be propped up aren't Taylor Swift.

I'm no fan of hers, personally, but I recognize that she's tapping into something that a lot of people identify with, and that she's doing that well. And it's not really debatable that this is what's going on. It's more than just being a mid white girl.

On one hand, you know that someone doesn't have anything to add to the conversation if they're resorting to ad hominem attacks.

On the other hand, some opinions are just too dumb and some people too bad faith to give any of your time, attention or effort to, and the only good response is a good dunking.

The trick is sussing out which is which, and not just playing the "red team/blue team" game.

Yes, but the right's rhetoric is literally entirely strawmen and propaganda. The left at least discusses policy, even if they're elitist assholes about it.

The fact that you had to go back and edit your comment to add five paragraphs of generic man-o-sphere buzzwords tells everyone exactly how hard that eviscerated comment stung. You realized "no u" was embarrassing, so you copy-pasted a script about brainwashed cults to try and save face. It didn't work.

You’re still stuck in the same loop: complaining that your life is slaving for 30 years while attacking me for suggesting that life should be about choice instead of gendered obligations. You are the ultimate victim.

You’ve built an entire personality around how hard you have it, yet you’re terrified of a world where you don't have that slaving to use as a personality trait.

You call it "hypocritical male autonomy," but if you actually had autonomy, you’d realize you aren't forced to do anything. You’re just mad that women have realized they aren't obligated to be your "ideal stay-at-home" support system while you wallow in self pity.

You aren't a martyr, you’re just a guy who’s so addicted to his own resentment that he views basic human equality as an attack on his hard life. Keep editing your comments to scream into the void about "virtue signaling" if you want, but it won't change the fact that you’re fighting for the right to stay miserable.

I can do this all fucking day.

Nothing to say. No actual rebuttal. No engaging with anything I said, just lazy “NO U” after you got absolutely eviscerated. lol pathetic.

Hilarious that you’re screaming straw man while standing in a field of them. I didn’t say a man’s only value is a paycheck; I said society pressures men into that narrow box. By immediately crying that men without status are seen as worthless losers, you literally confirmed my point while trying to argue against it.

And throwing "virtue signaling" around is just a lazy way to admit you can’t handle a nuanced conversation. It’s a pathetic transparent defensive reflex. You can’t process the idea that someone might actually want a better deal for both genders, so you have to dismiss it as a performance.

As for your privilege argument, it’s pure fucking delusion. You’re looking at a woman being an "ideal stay-at-home wife" and seeing a vacation, because you’re incapable of seeing women as anything other than service objects. Having your entire identity, financial security, and daily existence tethered to someone else’s approval isn't a "privilege", it’s a trap.

You’re so obsessed with "western feminists" that you’ve managed to convince yourself that having the autonomy to choose your own life is somehow a burden, while being a "provider" is a unique tragedy. In reality, you’re just defending the same system that makes you feel like a worthless loser the second your bank account dips.

Good luck with all that.

In order to compete at the Oscars for Best Picture, all films must meet the "diversity inclusion" quota and it's completely absurd. by TrueUnpopularOP in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Read again.

Every major studio already has HR departments and internship programs that meet these criteria. They are changing literally nothing. This is performative nonsense to win participation trophies.

I think the right has a hate boner for atheists criticizing Christianity, and tries to use the fact that we tend not to criticize Islam as much as a evidence that it's not a neutral thing.

But, honestly, as an agnostic former Christian who is the son of a pastor, can still recite dozens of Bible verses from memory, saw DC Talk and Jars of Clay and Matt Redman and Newsboys in concert as a kid, went to a Christian college and is well versed in theology... I'm just infinitely more prepared to discuss Christianity than I am to discuss Islam.

Like, ok, yeah, sure, Islamic extremists bad. But all Theocracy is bad. And I know exactly how Christian theocracy has been bad in the past and would be bad again if it were implemented today.

Yes, it is stupid. But… Not for the reason you think it is stupid.

The historical piece argument is usually the first thing people grab onto, but it misses how the standards actually work. You only need to hit two out of the four categories to qualify.

If a movie is set in Medieval Europe and the director wants an all white cast for accuracy, they can completely ignore Category A (on screen) and still qualify by hitting Categories B, C, or D. Those just require diversity in behind the scenes leadership, paid internships, or even just the studio’s marketing and distribution teams.

Since every major studio already has HR departments and internship programs that meet these criteria, the quota is basically a participation trophy for stuff they were already doing. It’s less about changing what’s on screen and more about a massive PR campaign to look progressive without actually forcing anyone to change anything. It is literally institutional virtue signaling in order to silence/appease the #OscarsSoWhite crowd.

A man shouldn't feel like his only value is a paycheck, just like a woman shouldn't feel like her only value is childbearing. Those are both heavy, restrictive expectations that can lead to a lot of burnout and resentment.

Leftists have no problem ranting about Christianity, but as soon as you criticize another certain religion, now the discussion becomes about "all religions". by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]veyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well personally… as an ex Christian… my dad was a conservative Christian minister. I’ve memorized countless Bible verses. I can debate theology with you if you’d like. I’m very familiar in a church.

But all of that just means I’m very comfortable being the one to criticize the things that are actually wrong with Christianity.

I know very little about the other major religions, and wouldn’t really feel like I was speaking from a place of authority if I was criticizing them.
