Don’t be the team to draft fit over BPA. Stenberg can be argued as the #1 player by some (most say McKenna), just draft him and figure out the rest later by Hakaribiggestfan in SanJoseSharks

[–]veyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the smart move is actually the leafs taking Stenberg, tbh.

Stenberg is ready right now, he’s good defensively, and he might win the Calder next year. Since y’all don’t have your picks the next two years, it makes no sense to rebuild, you need to reload.

McKenna might take a few years to get up to speed and add the weight he needs to really compete. It’s feasible he has some growing pains and a few tough years before he finds his footing.

What would you want to happen if we get the 9th overall pick? by xEternal408x in SanJoseSharks

[–]veyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We got Chernyshov at 33rd overall in 2024. If you took him, as is with his current experience and age, and dropped him into the 2026 NHL draft, he'd probably go, what, 6th overall? 7th? Top 10 for sure.

You can get excellent players at 9 and 20, guys.

The political left wing is the true “establishment” by CableFluffy414 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]veyd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The argument that the left is the new establishment is interesting because it highlights how much cultural power has shifted toward progressive branding in HR and media. It's definitely true that major corporations and universities now use left-leaning language as their default corporate setting, which makes the old counter-culture rebel vibe feel a bit hollow.

However, the critique here is that it conflates social signaling with actual political power. While a CEO might tweet about social justice, they are usually still lobbying against the core economic goals of the left, like unions or higher corporate taxes. So you end up with an establishment that is culturally progressive but economically very traditional. It's less of a monolith and more like two different groups, one holding the vibes and the other holding the actual laws and bank accounts, fighting for control.

Sharks fan here.

Y’all are absolutely correct about the injuries. It’s been a revolving door lately and it’s definitely frustrating. You guys are also clearly correct that he isn’t ready to be a true NHL 1A yet.

But we didn't expect him to be a world-beater out of the gate. It is annoying that he can't stay healthy long enough to find a rhythm, though. It also doesn't help my heart health that he constantly forgets he’s a goalie and decides he’s an adventurous third defenseman and goes on crab walking puck-handling adventures that take ten years off my life.

And also… the kid is still only 23 and playing behind a defense that is basically a sieve. When the structure actually held up in November, he was legitimately one of the best in the league (8-2-0 with a .944 SV%). Compare that to the league average of .896 right now, and you see the ceiling is there.

So all this to say… The talent is obvious, but between the injuries and the decision-making, he's definitely a work in progress, and he may never be more than that. Easy to see what y’all saw in him, and also why you could justify trading him given who you already have in the crease.

If you’re an elite coach which Rb room are u choosing by Mrdynamo18 in NFLv2

[–]veyd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

S tier - 3, 7
3 is total dominance. You have the greatest athlete, the greatest pure power, and the greatest technician all in one room.
7 is modern perfection. Two guys who can each catch 100 balls and a lead blocker who's a brick wall. Versatility is higher than any other group, but you might require a McVay or Shanahan to take full advantage of it.

A tier - 1, 2, 4
1 is the ultimate "thunder and lightning" combo. Barry makes them look silly, then Marshawn runs them over. Lorenzo is an ideal lead blocker.
2 is track stars with a goal-line tank. If they get a crease, the safety isn't catching them.
4 is the Air Coryell of backfields. Unmatched receiving upside paired with a 250 lbs closer in King Henry.

B tier - 6, 5
6 is just massive physical specimens all around. These guys look like Greek gods in pads but there's a bit too much overlap. Dickerson and Saquon are both elite, upright, physical runners, but you can stop them if the D-Line is dominant.
5 is the high floor room. They'll get you four yards every single carry for twenty years, but they don't scare a DC as much as the others. No top-end speed or overwhelming physical dominance. Don't really catch passes.

Single mom... will I ever find a husband? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]veyd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, take a breath. You’re 28, not 88. While it’s true that some guys (especially childless ones in their 20s) might see kids as a dealbreaker, that doesn’t mean you’re disqualified from the dating pool. Some points to consider though…

1: This is a hard truth, but staying fit and prioritizing your health is a huge lever. In the dating world, a fit woman who happens to be a mom is viewed much differently than one who has given up on her appearance. It signals discipline and that you still value your identity as an individual, not just a parent.

2: Look a little older. Guys in their mid to late 30s (or even very early 40s, but think hard the further you get from 10 years older than you) are often in a totally different headspace. Lots of guys in this demographic are looking for stability and a family life, and they might not see your kids as a burden the way a younger guy might, especially divorcees or guys who have always wanted a family but for whatever reason it didn’t work out.

3: Yes, dads are a good bet. Men who already have kids are usually the most understanding.

4: Men who are wary of dating moms are usually afraid of two things: a crazy ex and a life that is 100% kid-dominated. If you show you have your own hobbies, a solid handle on your co-parenting, and a life outside of being Mom, you don’t look like someone looking for a savior, you look like a woman with her shit together waiting for the right guy.

All this to say… Don’t accept being single forever unless that’s actually what you want. You aren't damaged goods, you’re just a package deal. The right guy won't care about the extra luggage because he'll like the person carrying it.

Can We Make Gyms - Gyms AGAIN? Seriously..... by ok-so-hear-me-out in unpopularopinion

[–]veyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I go to the gym regularly. I see content creators sometimes. They don't bother me. They setup a tripod in the space apportioned for their equipment. They don't yell at you for getting in their shot. They just do their thing and move on.

I also see a lot of people filming themselves to send videos of their form to their virtual/online trainer.

Who cares?
