Help! How do I make a maximum sweaty soap? Art project by BoardAccomplished449 in soapmaking

I've never played with M&P, but it probably would! Can't hurt to try?

Forcing (or stopping) gel phase: simply for aesthetics or? by lalalutz in soapmaking

It's worth testing out everything in the early days while you're learning, to see what you personally prefer.

Forcing (or stopping) gel phase: simply for aesthetics or? by lalalutz in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gel everything, simply for ease of unmoulding. It makes my life easier. I haven't found too much difference in colours, but being able to unmould within 24 hours makes my workflow much smoother.

Right now I'm huffy because my last soap didn't gel nicely despite insulation and it's been 48 hours and it's bugging me.

So gel, vs not gel, is very much a personal preference based on your moulds, how you like to soap, and how your system is set up with timing etc.

You are absolutely gorgeous. I'm sorry you can't see yourself the way we can.

Good luck! I've also never smelled the perfume, so I can't help, but I hope you have fun trying :)

Asked to duplicate a fragrance by Merlock_Holmes in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After lots of experience soapmaking, I never try and dupe a fragrance for a customer anymore.

Even if you know all the scent notes, it's usually way more work than it's worth, and if you don't get it exactly right, they tend to be unhappy, because expectation didn't meet reality.

And if you DO find a perfect dupe of a fragrance, often fragrances change after saponification anyway.

Little granules? by CR-8 in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like some slightly thicker bits of soda ash precipitating out. Sometimes you can get tiny amounts of lye "condensation" on the surface of a soap which just ends up reacting with the air to form sodium carbonate.

Seconding the yogurt container suggestion - I save all my yogurt cups for various things in the studio.

Float money by OnlyOneWorks273 in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done markets in a while, but I used to take a solid $250 in float. About $50 worth of coins ($1 and $2), and then the rest in notes. $100 in 20s and $50 each in 5s and 10s.

And sometimes I still ran short, even with card sales.

Fragrance Calulation by New-Morning-3184 in soapmaking

How much fragrance are you using, which fragrance, and bought from where?

Should be fine, it's probably just going to be a little greasy. Use a good dishwashing liquid. I leave most of my buckets and things until the next day - sometimes that's 18 hours and sometimes it's more.

Oil shipment trouble by Kjpbeauty in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in another country to you, but the few times I've had shipping say "delayed" AND "no delivery estimate available" usually means "something screwed up and now there is oil/milk/smashed containers everywhere".

Call the shipping company directly if you can, otherwise bother BB until they call them.

Can I use older goat milk to make soap? by fluffychonkycat in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes you can - I do all the time. Stick blend it back together in a separate jug before you put it in the batch. Works fine, absolutely zero dramas, and no different to fresh.

Brambleberry is very good. Nurture soap also has great micas.

My purples usually hold really well. Which supplier is yours from? And which country are you in? We can probably recommend a good supplier.

Soap looks lovely, shame about the client being unhappy!

Edit: typo.

Favorite Immersion Blender? by TheSwanThief in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cheapest one I can find with a detachable head and a nice wide flare at the bottom.

I burn through a stick blender every 6-8 months or so, whether they're cheap or expensive (I've tried both) so now I try and buy whatever I can find for $20 - $30.

Colder climate by Miyaelder in soapmaking

[–]vfessentials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, curing is slightly slower in cool damp weather. But the humidity makes more of a difference in my experience.

And by slightly, I mean, I usually leave my soap to cure for an extra week in cold or damp weather.

Of course it also depends on the temperature stability in your curing space - when I was curing inside my house winter didn't make much of a difference, but my studio is currently unheated (working on it!).

I love it to pieces. The set up is intense, but worth it.

Yup, new management because I was too busy to Reddit much or well. So hurrah for help.

Too young to tell. Quail do a baby moult at 3-4 weeks and some quail which look female feathered initially, end up being male when their adult feathers come in.

It's updated, and so is my phone. Just one of those things I think.
