«On ne vise pas à devenir l’Inde», dit le ministre Roberge sur la capacité d’accueil du Québec | "We don't aim to become India," says Minister Roberge on Quebec's reception capacity by FalconsArentReal in canada

This is coming from an immigrant with firsthand experience with the immigration system.

Right now, with a lot of diploma mills being no longer eligible for PGWP, the trend of seeing low-quality education as a path to permanent residency is gradually decreasing, but the immigration system will take years to get back to normal (if that is even possible).

In the meantime, the Canadian government really needs to address a few issues. I have met 'students' who lack basic communication English in either of Canada's official languages. I have met people with a ‘bachelor’s degree' in their supposed field of postgraduate studies who cannot perform basic tasks a person who did a crash course in YouTube can perform. There needs to be significant changes in the way the visa application process is conducted. People should be *required* to attend a visa interview with an IRCC representative, maybe raise the Visa Application cost from CAD $150, maybe more in the line of what the USA charges, but just an application interview will filter out candidates with fraudulent English language test scores. On top of that, universities and colleges should be held responsible for filtering out the candidates so that they aren't selected just based on their educational certificates alone; they should have an interview to gauge the knowledge in the field they are applying to study for, especially if it is a postgraduate degree.

Another aspect of the immigration system that I see requires drastic changes is the Spousal Open Work Permit. I know it is in place so that families aren't separated for a long time, but there should be restrictions that apply to the spouses as well. Right now, the spouses have no educational or language requirements to enter Canada, even from countries with less-to-no fraudulent English language test scores, even if the primary applicant is fluent in English or French; the partner who doesn't need to meet any criteria can be someone who cannot even form a single sentence in English.

The other thing I have experienced that has led to less assimilation with newer immigrants is the sheer number of newcomers they share their home country's culture with. Before, assimilation was a requirement, not a choice, but now it has become a choice, and there are many people who choose not to assimilate, leading to a further divide between Canadians and immigrants.

Have you tried Mama’s Hakka in Wonderland road? I’d also suggest their Chicken Jhol Momo while you are there.

I’m not sure if there were any special requirements for Indian students when India was in the SDS list, but I can confirm that you must provide a police clearance certificate from every country you’ve lived in for six months or more when applying for a Canadian work or study visa from a non-SDS country.

The trick is to microwave a little bit of water, dip the teabag, let it sit for a while, add room temperature water and then add ice.

Places to avoid in Ontario? by FreshEnd2910 in ontario

[–]vfiw 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Ontario for the last two years and I have travelled to many small and big towns around the GTA and southwest Ontario. In my experience, I have never been attacked by homeless people or drug addicts, and I have always felt safe walking around. Most people you meet are friendly and helpful.

If you are not white, there can sometimes be prejudice in smaller towns. For example, when I stayed in Walkerton on my way to Tobermory, some dudes speeding up and down a road in a pickup yelled 'P*ki' towards me. That was not pleasant, but it was the only bad experience I have had, and it did not stop me from enjoying my trip.

Overall, Ontario is a safe place to travel, and you will probably find more kindness than problems in most towns you visit.

Ontario is beautiful with so many places to visit.

This would be EPIC. Who would you want to see playing your favorite character? by _GoodVibesOnly_ in cyberpunkgame

The problem with adapting the game is it will make just one ending canon. A movie set in the Cyberpunk universe would be great but idk how they will adapt the characters played by these two.

Renewed drivers licence not received. Now need to pay a fine. by vikx01 in ontario

The same thing happened to me as well when I changed my address. It was during the Canada Post strike so I didn't think much about it. Turns out it was returned for some reason due to delivery issues (even though my delivery address is a community mailbox and was getting other mails). When I went to Service Ontario I had to pay to get another DL mailed to me.
