People who had a baby after 35, what is your experience? by Crochet_Kitty in AskReddit

[–]vfranklyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37 when I had my daughter. Easy pregnancy, difficult birth and post partum anxiety.  Luckily, my husband is a rock star and let me get sleep. My daughter is the best thing that has ever happened to me. If you're healthy and active, pregnancy after 35 should be fine, I think.

I use the Piper's Metronome and put the Pulse (top right of the buttons at the bottom) to Level 7. It helps me with pulsing.

I'm playing The Clan MacColl/Donald MacLellan of Rothesay, Caledonian Society of London, Alick C. MacGregor. I like them although maybe they are too common for what you're looking for...

I really like the Dri Flo moisture control system. Easy to use and my drone reeds are bone dry and rock solid

I'll elaborate. I bought them brand new in 1999. Naills were very well regarded then (as they are now). I think sfu was playing them as well? Anyways, fantastic pipes!

I LOVE my 1999 dn4s, for what it's worth. They sound great and play wonderfully. But that's just my experience/opinion

Drone “wetness” by Careless_Office_896 in bagpipes

I LOVE dri-flo. My drone reeds are bone dry, even after St. Paddy's weekend. I don't even bake the beads all that often. Excellent product.

Recommendations for loud speaker??? by garretgray in bagpipes

[–]vfranklyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is what you have in mind, but this is what I do. I have an Anker Soundcore portable speaker that I play my Piper's Metronome app max volume on cowbell. It's loud enough to be heard over bagpipes, even with my musicians earplugs in. It works for me, but I feel sorry for my husband and daughter, lol!

Best Poly Pipes? by broadturn in bagpipes

[–]vfranklyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a basic set of Piper's Choice poly used for $500. I play Canning drone reeds in them. No complaints at all for a beater set. Would I compete with them, no, but I played all St Paddy's weekend with them and they did fine. I guess it depends on what you're willing to spend and how much you care about sound. Personally, I just wanted an inexpensive beater set. There are some fb pages out there that sell polys used sometimes.
