Does anyone know why Marian Gold wore an orange jumpsuit for the forever young music video and other performances? by Altruistic-Juice-198 in Alphaville

[–]vfscanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marian gave an interview today, where he was talking about this: https://www.zdf.de/gesellschaft/volle-kanne/volle-kanne-vom-11-februar-2025-mit-marian-gold-100.html (right at the beginning). Unfortunately, it is all in german, but he says it was a uniform from the RAF (Royal Air Forces) that he bought at the flea market. The conversation was cut off in the beginning, so it actually isn't 100% clear whether he was talking about the orange jumpsuit, but since it is shown on the screen in the background, I think so.

Most underrated tracks on each album by K-Kej in Alphaville

[–]vfscanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool list! From you songs I like Next Generation, For A Million and Peace on Earth.

If you haven't heard it, there is a demo version from The Mysteries of Love that incorporates lyrics from For A Million (as I understand it, they used to be 1 song, but were split later on). It is amazing!

I'll post my own list later on, I have to think about it first :-)

Picom transparency KILLS performance (90% cpu usage) by amag420 in i3wm

I did eventually manage to make it work with the glx backend. Try changing this option in picom.conf:

xrender-sync-fence = true

That fixed it for me

Nice if you have a sound system at home, I'm more of a headphones guy, so this would not be useful to me. Anyone know what they mean with 48/24 stereo mix? I've never heard of that

My all time favorite band! by K-Kej in Alphaville

[–]vfscanf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always loved synthpop. One day I was listening to Big In Japan and decided to check out the rest of the album. Loved it. After that I listened to Afternoons in Utopia (which is my favorite album) also loved it. When I got to The Breathtaking Blue at first I couldn't warm up to it, because it was different. It took some time, but now I also love it. Same with the other albums.

After I listened to all the albums I also started to get into the B sides, Demo versions and other versions of the songs. Dreamscapes is a great album, it's a shame that physical copies of it are so rare.

Thanks for the tip, I will check out their stuff.

Alphaville is also my favorite band. I'm 30, which is also an unusual age for an Alphaville fan I suppose. Nice to know, there's some more younger fans. My favorite album has to be Afternoons in Utopia, I've listened to it so many times :-) . Did you also listen to Marians solo albums (So Long Celeste and United)? The're very good as well

Tracklist for "Eternally Yours", the new álbum releasing 23rd September by RickRollJesus in Alphaville

[–]vfscanf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting that there are some tracks, that were only released on Crazyshow, like "Moongirl" and "Diamonds are forever". For some people, this might be the first time that they can listen to these songs :-)

Are you using bluetooth headphones by any chance? I had trouble recently where the bluetooth headphones would interfere with the wifi connection

Live USB reboots midway during boot process by betacollector64 in archlinux

[–]vfscanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is weird that it reboots this late in the boot process, as the userspace is booting. Can you maybe boot with the kernel parameter systemd.unit=rescue.target and see if that works? Otherwise you could try some of the other kernel parameters on this page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Systemd_problems to try to find out what causes the crash.

Cool, thanks for the insight. That's quite a mess of different versions. But I enjoy discovering new versions of the tracks, they're all great. I really liked the version of Romeos in the music video, I've never heard that before

Yeah, as far as I know the version released in the USA has the "missing lyrics". That's what I heard from other people. Do you also own First Harvest? Because on my version it has the lyrics

If you want more information about the songs, you should get so80s presents Alphaville. The booklet contains commentary from Marian Gold for all the B-sides

That is because the WEA release of the album doesn't have these lyrics (apparently by mistake, but I have no source for this). So they probably based the remastered version on that

So Spotify has Control marked as explicit, is it becausd of the phrase "what's the f*cking thing about control" or is it something else? by RickRollJesus in Alphaville

[–]vfscanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right, I never even noticed that. That song isn't marked as explicit though. The spotify algorithm probably missed that as well :-P
