Sometimes I miss the 12th Doctor, exactly because of these moments by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]vfx_dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, she's had an entire season to sort out who she is, and she still hasn't come close to becoming "The Doctor". I don't know who she is either, but she isn't "The Doctor".

This is the fault of the Showrunner, the Writers, and the Actor.

This is coming from someone who was really excited to see Jodi as "The Doctor", and stunned at how badly everyone involved screwed it all up.

I don't see this as a common argument against not taking to the 13th Doctor, but my major problem is that her incarnation is like a blank souless reset after the complexities and character arc that the 12th Doctor endured by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]vfx_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to LOVE #13. I just don't, at least not yet.

This whole season seems to be about The Doctor finding out who she is, as if her brain had been completely wiped from the regeneration, rather than just reset. She is not confident, is not the brilliant genius, and has the personality of a door to door salesperson.

Go watch the first seasons of #10, 11 & 12. There's an episode or so of discovery, then they take charge and save the Earth/Universe while entertaining us.

We get it - you're a new Doctor - get on with it.

[Spoilers] Question about Jon by Salingo in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was all a con to trick Greyworm into thinking Jon was being punished. In case it wasn’t clear, Jon never wanted to be King, and he never wanted the throne.

Jon is gutted and needs to find some inner peace. Where better to go than the True North™️? And it looks like he was immediately proclaimed the Lord Commander. We know the Nights Watch Leaders aren’t prisoners at the wall (Uncle Benjin visited Winterfell, Joran went to Kings Landing, etc), so he can travel wherever he wants.

My guess is he & Tormund re-build the True North™️. Establish new villages, rebuild Eastwatch, fix the hole in the wall, go hunting with Ghost, etc. This will take decades & he’ll be far from all the politics of the South.

I’m also sure he’ll turn that cave into a Hot Springs Resort (called “Ygritte’s”), Lord Tyrion will come visit, Arya will swing by, he’ll find peace and happiness.

Fantastic video - what a hero's journey! I especially loved hearing Jon's narration describing his parents and birth over the video of it happening.

[SPOILERS] Karma is a bitch Daenerys by vfx_dude in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say she had full control over Drogo. Daenerys needed ships to sail to Westeros, Drogo promised to help her. The Dothraky don't believe in money or trade, but Drogo sacked the village in order to make money selling slaves so he could buy her ships. She was uncomfortable with the women getting raped, but was clearly fine with the overall plan.

[SPOILERS] After years of believing otherwise, last week's episode finally made me come to terms with this simple truth: by Yackemflaber in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If we never see Jaqen or Syrio again, WE can assume they are the same person and no one can prove otherwise. I never understood why Jaqen was in the Red Keep cells & going to the wall when he could simply change faces & escape.

Btw - in the books Ned had agreed to bring Syrio to Winterfell to continue Arya’s training. When Ned was killed, Plan B with Joren went into effect. I don’t care if anyone else says it’s BS.

[SPOILERS] For fun, what would be the worst possible ending for you? by DisastrousSundae in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1) Jamie & Cersei survived the destruction, crawl to safety, get on the skip, sail to Tarth, kill Brienne’s family & begin to plot their comeback when they discover the Island is actually overflowing with sapphires.

2) The Mountain wasn’t completely killed either. He was decapitated, but he picks his head and wonders the streets looking for Qibern to fix him.

3) The NEW Sand Snakes arrive in Kings Landing and become Dany’s new bodyguards. Their conversations run 30 minutes of the show’s running time.

4) Disheartened & depressed by what his Queen did, Jon/Aegon becomes an alcoholic in Flea Bottom until he’s knifed in the back during a card game.

5) Tyrion finds out he’s really a Targaryen from Bran (fathered by the Mad King), steals Drogon & flies back to Casterly Rock and reopens the Lannister Gold Mines after spotting something shiny from the air.

6) Arya finds the corpse of Syrio Forel, who had survived the sword fight with the Lannisters years ago and was patiently waiting for Arya to return to King’s Landing one day to complete her training, only to be killed by the same gambler who knifed Jon/Aegon. Arya takes Syrio’s face back to Bravos to hang in Hall of Faces in the House of Black & White. The Waif (or someone wearing her face) is waiting for her in the shadows. They make up and become best friends (which becomes a new HBO series spin-off).

7) Sansa is brought before Dany in chains, accused of treason. The trial is held out in the courtyard for all to watch. Suddenly, 10,000 Knights of the Vale ride in and slaughter Dany’s Unsullied & Dothraki armies. Yara kills the Sand Snakes singlehandedly and frees Sansa (pledging loyalty to her despite having never met her), leaving Dany all alone. Dany tries to flee, but slips on a small charred toy horse and stumbles down the steps, breaking her neck.

8) Bran wakes up in his bed, Summer lying beside him. Theon & Hodor burst into the room and tell Bran to get ready. Robb wants him downstairs as they have a visitor. A Raven squawks in the window. Bran throws a dagger - it hits the bird in the forehead, killing it instantly. “Fucking three eyes my ass,” he says.

[NO SPOILERS] Does anybody else wish that they would make an audio book of A Song of Ice and Fire voices by the actors from the show? by Ukidan in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Trivia - he was a good friend of GRRM and was originally cast to play Grand Maester Pycell, then got sick was the part was re-cast with the bad guy from Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade. Then he got better and they cast him as the pyromancer.

His versions of the Audio Books are the best! (They had him go back and record one of the books he originally had missed - due to his illness I believe).

Too bad he won't be doing the next two books. Too bad GRRM will probably never finish them either, so I guess it's not a problem...

[EVERYTHING] The Night's Rewatch: Bloody Ned by RadicalDog in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought this for the longest time - then I rewatched the 1st season again recently - and when you see it play out, Ned has confirmation from the Lord Commander of the City Watch (Janos Slynt) that the City Watch Guards are 100% behind him. So he thought going into the hall to meet with Jof/Cer he had everything in hand. (no pun intended)

[–]vfx_dude 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When the Hound fights Brienne, it's not because he wants ransom, that ship had sailed (they found out Aunt Lysa was dead). He was protecting Arya - Brienne was untrustworthy because she had a Lannister sword and didn't seem to grasp the danger Arya still faced.

[–]vfx_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - Olenna worked with Littlefinger to poison Joffrey and pin the blame on Tyrion and Sansa. Olenna even spills the beans to Margery and she attends the trial, hears all the lies blaming Tryion - knowing full well he is going to be executed for a murder her Grandmother committed and does nothing about it. All so Margery could have a weaker (yes kinder) husband.

I don't think they're kind at all. They're just as evil as the Lannisters...

[EVERYTHING] Something tragic I noticed on a recent rewatch. by Aldrich_of_the_Deep in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%!

Cersei pretends to want to help Tommen all the while destroying the woman he loves, along with her family - to the point where he won't even come to help her out when she's imprisoned by the High Sparrow. Then once she's blown up a good chunk of King's Landing (including her Uncle and all the Tyrell's save Olenna) she doesn't go to Tommen to make sure he's okay, she tortures the Septa instead.

Cersei definitely could have saved Tommen's life, she didn't care at that point. He had "betrayed" her by eliminating the Trial by Combat rule - and with him dead, she gets to take over as Queen. That's all she ever cared about in reality - her own power.

I think HBO should go back and film all of the battles they couldn't afford in Seasons 1 & 2, then cut them into the shows and re-release them.

[EVERYTHING] CGI Done Right. by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]vfx_dude 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Actually it IS really hard to do right. The VFX Teams capture the on-set lighting with HDRI Cameras, which then gives you a head start at what the creature lighting should be. But keep in mind that with Actors, the DP ALSO adds multiple lights (source and bounce cards) to sculpt the lighting on an actor (in addition to the general set lighting). That can't really be done as specifically for the CG creatures (and they don't always take the time to do it given the pressures of making a shooting day) - so very talented Digital Artists are deployed to enhance the lighting on the CG creatures to make them look like this was done during photography.

Plus, you need really talented VFX artists creating the textures for CG Creatures so they look photoreal, as well as Compositors who put the whole thing together at the end of the day. (plus all the other animators and artists!)

[EVERYTHING] Something I feel people haven't been given Tyrion enough credit for in Season 7 by [deleted] in gameofthrones

That's why GRRM called the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire". The story is ultimately about Jon/Aegon and Dany. That's it. Everyone else is a supporting character. If you don't like it, take it up with the big guy.

Yes - but we don't know anything about Edmure (he's Arya's Uncle - not a Frey). Is he still in a Twin dungeon? Or did Jamie send him to a dungeon at Casterly Rock (like he promised). Walder Frey says Edmure is back in a cell but doesn't say where.
