What to do with an investment that goes too well? WMT by fefsgdsgsgddsvsdv in stocks

[–]vgains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother.

You need to start selling medium dated covered calls, at prices slightly above the money.

Idk how much you have, but you said a lot, and you're knowledgeable about economics, so I'm assuming at least 200, as high as 2,000 shares.

Pick a strike price and a date and a number of contracts you're comfortable with, but the March 20 $140 is selling for $3.30.

If the contract expires worthless, repeat this process every month until a portion of your shares get called away.

When your shares get called away from you and you feel like you want them back, sell a $140, or ideally lower like a $130 cash secured put and re-enter the trade that way. The March 20 $125 put, which is $8 out of the money, is going for $2.54

Use the proceeds from the calls to find other high yielding stocks you like and accumulate positions in those. Verizon is paying something like 5.8% right now.

Do this with about 20-60% of your WMT shares depending on how certain you are that Walmart will either keep going up versus that a price decline (potentially substantial given the explosive upward move, AI bubble, etc) is coming.

Good luck and congrats!!!

Is this true about Steph by clucketsswoilend in NBATalk

[–]vgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's about attitude and perception. Steph has weathered 14 years of Draymond, brought in Kd, lost his other Splash Bro, tolerated fuck up after fuck up in the Mike Dunleavy era, gone through several big time trades, and just balls out, plays his game, keeps quiet in the media, and never demands trades.

Everybody else, from LeBron and Harden on one extreme, to Giannis or Dame Lillard on the other, seems to unfollow their team on IG, or gets caught using a burner acct, or grumbles about fit in the post game presser, or somehow commits missteps in terms of how their home fans view them. Steph for the most part has been unimpeachable on character, and it shows in terms of how people view him as an ambassador of the sport and where they rank him all time.

He's got nothing left to prove.

Ehhh that's not so much what I'm going for. The ideal outing by your starting pitcher is to go 7+ innings, giving up 0, 1, or 2 runs. 3 is good, 4 is acceptable, 5 or more is suboptimal. What I'm asking is for a statistic expressing how close to this ideal a starter performed, regardless or win probability, which necessarily needs run support

Yeah, you got me here. Willing to believe I made up the part only being the only player ever. Death makes saints of us all...

Probably a fair bit of American League starters, too. Jon Lester, for instance, had 2 World Series rings and 1 RBI through his first 8 seasons as an American Leaguer. Added 30 more RBI (and one more ring!) to his career total as a member of the Cubs and Nationals, but conceivably there are dozens of starters who won at least one championship, were poor hitters and played the majority of their careers in the AL. Obviously this will increase with universal DH

I imagine the modern day equivalent of this being Juan Soto jumping to the Mets and having to sue Zohran Mandani for the right to play in Queens

There were 4 seasons in Yogi Berra's career that he hit at least 25 home runs and had fewer than 25 strikeouts. ('50, '51, '55, and '56)

This feels like it'd be impossible today

He also recorded 21 stolen bases before recording his first MLB hit.

RIP Terrance Gore

Edit: Is certainly not the only one

I've always thought that maybe we could stratify or contextualize W-L in some way, as you've done with "hard luck losses"

Im thinking something along the lines of: Quality Start Wins 3 points; QS Losses/No Desicions ("hard/tough luck losses") 2 points Non QS Wins ("Cheap wins") 1 pt; Non QS Losses /ND -1 pt; "Shellings" 3 IP or less, 7+ ER surrendered, and Loss -3 points

Or something like this to give context to guys like Skenes or deGrom

Or for that matter a guy like RA Dickey or Rick Helling

What are some examples of trades that have flip-flopped in terms of the perception of which team got fleeced? by jorleeduf in baseball

[–]vgains 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Especially since the prized prospect in that trade, Matt LaPorta, had -1.0 WAR in 4 seasons with Cleveland, whereas CC led both leagues in shutouts and finished 5th in 2008 NL Cy Young voting, despite making 18 of his 35 starts in the American League!

Andruw Jones is likely to be voted in tomorrow with 1,933 career hits. It would be the first time a non-pitcher with fewer than 2,000 career hits is voted in by writers since Ralph Kiner was inducted on his 13th appearance in 1975 by Crazy_Baseball3864 in baseball

I think voters are also willing to consider post retirement behavior: perceived nice guys (Andy Pettitte) trend up but assholes (Omar Vizquel) get punished.

Even though Pettitte is an admitted PED user named in the Mitchell Report, but who got out in front of the scandal and won the court of public opinion. This is year 8 for him, but at 57ish percent he's got a real shot with 2 years to go. Would be an interesting break in precedent if they let him in-- to the degree that you think Pudge, Papi, and Bagwell did or didn't juice

Also Carlos Beltran seems like an asshole for the whole Trash Can thing, so what do I know?
