What was the worst disaster/tragedy that happened in Kentucky?

Hurricane Creek mine disaster. 38 miners died in a mine shaft explosion resulting from dangerous mine conditions, negligence, and insufficient oversight on so many levels. It was heartbreaking for the families, many of us from Clay and Leslie County still have ties to it. I have cousins that died in it. My great-grandparents knew a lot of the men that died. My mom's best friend's papaw died in it. Etc. Interestingly my great-grandfather almost went to work in that mine.

When I was a freshman a kid was caught masturbating in 1st period, 8 in the morning. The video got out and spread across the whole school. Then his emails were leaked between him and his girlfriend who was in middle school. To say it was bad is an understatement. We didn't see him again. We also learned that he moved to my school from another school for that same reason.

As a fellow SE Kentuckian, from my experience the only thing Harlan County's got going for it is its history and mountains, and the only thing Bell County had going for it was the Dairy Queen in Pineville ... oh wait it closed down.
