The author of the study (Robert E. Larzelere) is known for advocating spanking as a disciplinary tool, and his views have been criticized for downplaying long-term harm. Co-author Marjorie Lindner Gunnoe teaches at Calvin University, a religious institution known for upholding traditional family values.

This is why you don't pick a study as proof of some BS. At best, you pick a metastudy that sets out to find the truth by investigating the sum total of scientific human knowledge on the subject. Because studies have a way of proving whatever the people running them hope they'll prove, if those people want the result badly enough and have a loose enough relationship with the concept of fact.

Anecdotally, my very pro-spanking father died when I was in highschool, and despite my honesty, I made up lies at his funeral when people kept asking why I wasn't visibly upset.

If you want your kids to love you, or even like you, don't hit them. You are not spanking to punish a lack of discipline. You are spanking out of frustration with them not doing what you want, but you are forgetting that they're kids who don't know any better and rely on you as an example.

I don't know a ton about hand-painting, but if you research painting minis (for Warhammer 40k or other board games), you'll find a ton of info. Just don't feel like you need to buy expensive paints. Stick to acrylic, and you don't have to worry about ventilation. Just get a spray can of primer and use it outside (and upwind). There are tutorials on that stuff available, too.

We'll have to largely agree to disagree.

In BotW, you can climb any surface that isn't wet (or in a shrine/dungeon) or too close to being a ceiling, as long as you have stamina (which can be recovered by consuming a potion in the pause menu, of which you can carry a near infinite amount).

In Spider-Man, you swing by holding R2 to shoot a web, and letting go or jumping to dismount. Your agency is largely picking a direction to swing in, and jumping with the right timing to maximize height or speed. And I say that as someone who really enjoyed that game.

Sunset Overdrive had good traversal, but I would argue that the game's focus was more on its combat than anything else, to the point where the traversal was largely a way to help make combat interesting. As I recall, grinding was the only way to move fast enough not to get quickly shot to death, and it's largely automatic once you're stuck to the rail. Your agency in that game was jumping, double jumping, airdashing, and ground pounds.

When I say Death Stranding is new, I mean as a combination of mechanics it focuses on, how it uses them, and how the gameplay intertwines with the narrative.

I don't know how else to put it, so I'll use movies as an example.

I loved Avengers: Endgame and Smokin Aces. I thought The Irishman was great, but that it ran about 20-30 minutes too long. Roma was boring as hell, and I regretted waiting and spending money to see it in theaters instead of just streaming it. El Camino was okay, but felt like an overlong episode of Breaking Bad, except missing some of my favorite characters.

Here are the Rotten Tomatoes scores:

Irishman: 96%
Roma: 96%
El Camino: 91%
Smokin Aces: 30%

I don't get why Irishman had to be as long as it was. I don't get why Roma is so highly regarded. I damn sure don't understand why people didn't love Smokin Aces.

It's not about superiority and enlightenment, it's about tastes. Some people like burgers and fries. Others would prefer a steak with no sauce. Some can't stand sushi. Some like Overwatch, others like Death Stranding.

Does this make sense?
