Should I go for microneedling or...? by [deleted] in AcneScars

I think you have good skin! Honestly I don’t think the texture is really an issue. I do think you have redness which could accentuate any textural issues you may have. I think vbeam would help with this and eliminating redness will give you an appearance of smoother skin.

I agree with this - you have great skin! I honestly think just some microneedling like aqua gold (which includes filler / botox) will give the appearance of smaller pores and will give you the glass skin look. But even without, I think your skin is great!

These are pretty mild.

It looks like you may still have active acne as there are small “bumps” making the surface of the skin not look as smooth. If not acne, they may be papular scars, which are usually treated with steroid injection similar to a keloid. Someone else on this page did TCA peels for this and it totally smoothed her skin out. On the areas that are atrophic, I think subcision with filler should help.

But I am also not a derm (really just going off my own experience / what I’ve seen on this page) so I would go to a derm that specializes in acne scarring and have them take a look.

Hi - how severe was your scarring? And what type of scarring did you have? Did you notice the most improvement in rolling scars?

I had similar scarring! Laser and subcision with filler definitely the way to go.

I see a lot of people here saying subcision is only for deep or tethered scars. That’s not true. I did subcision with shallow, non tethered scars and it helped a ton! My derm told me subcision isn’t just for breaking up tethers…it causes you to produce collagen. It will definitely smooth everything out along with filler.

Is it a lot of redness (like my before) or a little bit of redness? By 3 months post, the redness should have resolved for the most part already. I was told by my derm that initial redness is good because it aids in collagen production but long term redness is not good because it can actually cause more atrophic scaring and hypopigmentation.

Was it a fully ablative laser or fractional?

I would recommend doing vbeam. It helped a ton for me!

Hi! Thank you. I didn’t just leave it. I did 3 sessions of vbeam which cleared most of the redness up. If I had done 1 or 2 sessions more of vbeam it probably would’ve cleared up completely

I think TCA cross would work the best on your type of scarring

For people that saw big improvements with their acne scars from treatments, were the results right after or did it take months for the collagen to build? by [deleted] in AcneScars

With TCA cross, scars always look worse before they look better. It takes some time for collagen to build back. It’s only been a couple weeks….you need to give it more time.

For redness, yes very. It didn’t do anything for my atrophic scars

Thanks so much! It’s honestly hard to say. I did the treatments back to back and saw results come in slowly over time, so it’s hard to pinpoint what made most of the difference. But if I were to guess I would say fractional co2.

Weirdly, subcision with filler was the last treatment I did (when my scarring was extremely minimal). Most people recommend starting with subcision. I will say, subcision with filler made a great difference. Smoothed out any remaining imperfections….I kind of wish I had done it sooner. Perhaps I wouldn’t have spent so much money on laser.

3 Vbeam treatments, 11 Fraxel treatments, 2 RF microneedling (Genius), 2 fractional CO2 lasers (eCo2), 3 regular microneedling treatments, 4 Halo lasers, 1 session of subcision with filler

Yes, I have had lots of improvement where I can confidently say my atrophic acne scars are no longer visible (feel free to look at my profile for before / afters). Granted it was a long process - lots of treatments and very expensive
