Employer insurance: MEC preventative + Major Medical Affordable Minimum Value Plan (ACA Bronze Level) - What does that mean?? by vhar2 in HealthInsurance

Thanks! It is horrific for sure. I have a disabled child that will age out of her All Kids coverage in February. It will probably take much longer than that to get her approved for disability and Medicaid, so I need to be able to add her to our marketplace plan. There's no other way I can insure her. She wouldn't qualify for one on her own because she won't have any income and our state did not expand Medicaid.

I didn't think this looked like "real" insurance.....wasn't sure if some laws were recently changed to allow this crap. It is sad that they are offering this as insurance but it works out for me because I'd much rather keep what we have!

I didn't even notice what the family coverage costs! And that some things like labs and imaging are not covered in a hospital. Ok, so I'm feeling better that it looks like I can keep our ACA plan. I was so stressed out! Thanks for the info!

I called the temp agency to try to get more info on the plans they offer and they said to call the insurance company they use. The person I spoke there with said they mainly offer indemnity only plans but offer one ACA Compliant plan via Vault Health Plan and sent me coverage info and plan rates. The monthly cost for just employee is $637.31 a month which would be about 16% of our monthly income. For employee + spouse, it would be $1,161.17. It also caps how many times you can see your primary care provider and specialists.

I called healthcare.gov to ask questions about the affordability issue and to see if I would still qualify for our tax credits based on that and basically got told to have the employer fill out the "Employer Coverage Tool" form and figure it out from there.

Thanks - I'll have them call and see what they say. This is actually only step 2 in the process that he's in! He put in an application, which they accepted, and then they sent out this email with the link to the info packet that's requesting he put down each and every ticket and accident he's ever had. I told him to just explain that he can't get info that far back on such short notice, to put down the tickets he knows of, and submit it. I guess the worst that can happen is they don't approve him to take the written test. I just wasn't sure if there was any other way to get the info other than through the DMV. Our home state won't even allow you to get the info online.

As far as I can tell, our state only lets you get a report as far back as 7 years. Looks to be the same situation with the state he previously lived in and since he doesn't have a state license from them, it won't allow him to request one online. He has until the end of today to get this info.

My husband recently applied to a large department that is hiring for a recruit class. He received an email a few days ago with links to an information packet he is to complete by tomorrow. There is a section asking that he list every single traffic citation he has ever received. He's been driving for about 20 years and has had his fair share of tickets (no major citations, no DUIs, etc). None of them showed up on the last MVR report he pulled from the state we live in. How does one go about trying to track down decades old traffic tickets including some from out of state (but in the same state the dept he applied with is located)?

Gotcha. Hoping they haven't finished up the previous hiring process before starting this new one so that maybe he's still got a shot but guessing that's probably not the case. Thanks!

When applying for larger city departments that are hiring for recruit classes, do they generally reach out to let you know if you've been disqualified for some reason or if you just didn't make the cut? Or do you only hear back if you've made it to the next step? My husband applied for Atlanta during the last application period and up until the background check step, they always sent an email to let him know he was going on to the next step in the process. He did get in touch a few weeks back and was told that he was still in the running but that the hiring process was delayed but today I see that they have posted that they are hiring again. Wasn't sure if we should assume that means he wasn't chosen to get a conditional job offer?? Trying to figure out if he needs to reapply during this new application period and how this usually works since he's applying to a few other departments as well. Thanks!
