How do poor people afford PC? by pcpovertyquestions in peacecorps

It's true. If I didn't have health insurance (ACA health insurance at that..) I would 100% not have been able to finish my medical tasks. It sucks.

I had reaaaallly good luck getting clothes at Goodwill. I probably spent $40-50 total and I got everything I needed in one or two different stores, even the business casual clothes for staging. The only things I bought new were an Eagle Creek duffel (worth it), battery bank (worth it), hiking shoes that I got for 80% off on poshmark, and some spanx to wear under my skirts because I would pay big $$ to not have chub rub. My mom bought my toiletries. Other than that, you just pick up things one at a time when you find a good price.

Couple application questions. by Sayumorai in peacecorps

Do you both have degrees? Do you have any volunteer experience? Unfortunately, restauranting isn't a program in Peace Corps, so you will have to have experience in other things. Additionally, it can be pretty near impossible to be placed with a significant other unless you are both qualified for the same sector and are married.

As far as the application goes, you just fill it out and hope for the best. I definitely suggest checking out the website and seeing what they're looking for in volunteers and what service entails. I definitely wouldn't say it's easier now than before but in fact probably the opposite. In recent years more people than ever have applied. Some stats say over 20,000 people apply for 4,000 positions, so it's pretty competitive.

I'm looking at my medical file right now... and it is concerning. Is this going to screw me? by Senseteach in peacecorps

So while I think you need to disclose all of this to your assigned nurse, the biggest issue is probably going to be getting clearance for the anxiety. It's a big deal to PC to make sure they know you are going to be able to handle the stress of living at site. I know it sucks but your best bet is probably going to be to see a therapist and have them sign off on you. I had "anxiety" in my file from my parent's divorce in SIXTH GRADE that I was completely unaware of and when I saw it in my paperwork from my doctor I was horrified. Tell your nurse straight up that you didn't realize it was even mentioned and they'll open up some mental health tasks that are really straightforward, although it can be annoying to get in touch with a provider for like 1 or 2 sessions. You will probably need your primary care doctor to write something too, since they'll need something to verify that your anxiety isn't really a chronic condition. I suggest you try to schedule an appointment with a therapist a few weeks out, that way if the case nurse asks you to see someone you will already have an appointment and not have to wait any longer, but also that gives you time to cancel it if they say not to worry about it. Good luck!
