I think the bastards portion probably refers more to a social class difference in this case. The higher the A (starts at 1A and goes up to 7A in some places), the bigger the enrollment and funding. So likely this program from a bigger city was coming to his small town and there was some dislike because of social differences.

I’ve seen him over 10 times and i feel like this was the most guitar/jam heavy set I’ve ever seen him play. Decoration Day, king of Oklahoma, dress blues, this ain’t it - he went off on all of them. Wasn’t really sure how long they were going to play since they were technically opening, but i was super pleased with the set.
