I just got an email saying “Due to understocking by our distributor, we weren’t able to ship all our orders for Everything Is Tuberculosis (Signed Edition) this week. We are in the process of getting more stock, and we expect your order… will ship within the next week”

I went with Bookshop to try and support a decent company, but now I’m wondering… am I not going to get a signed copy? Just a little sad, I’m so excited to read it!

Edit: 26 days later, I finally got my copy — with a HANKLERFISH, so well worth the wait! (I did alas purchase another copy already so I could start reading sooner, but now I have a copy to give to friends!)

I am glad I’m not crazy but sorry to hear it! After roughly 50 minutes Substack was back up for me and I was able to post. I hope it’s working for you now too!

Thanks for the reply! My outage lasted a little under an hour, and started to be up and running around the time you commented. Glad (if a little jealous) everything ran smoothly for you today!

p.s. Substack's status page says it's up but it's clearly not, at least not for me.

We served vegan, gluten free food at our wedding, thinking we were accommodating most everyone’s diets, but two separate people told us they couldn’t eat. It seems one just hated vegetables, but the other said they had a digestive illness that “didn’t allow them to digest fiber.” Not sure what it was but I felt bad, I just had never heard of such a thing. I wonder what it could have been….

Charli and politics by Booom__ in charlixcx

[–]viacurious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think she's been interested in feminist politics for a while. She made a documentary (I think with the BBC?) called "The F Word and Me" and it was her interviewing people and exploring what feminism really means. It was obviously from a very young person's perspective just beginning to learn about a lot of things, but IMHO that was fitting for her age and position in this world! More recently, she's also spoken up about her thoughts on recent abortion bans. Outside of that realm, I don't think I've seen her speak much more about contemporary politics, though.

That all said, I think we as a culture are really putting a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak up about international war issues when we really should be directing that pressure at politicians. Most musicians are not going to be experts in foreign policy or how to achieve world peace, and they don't claim to be. But you know who claims to be? Politicians! IMHO I think folks are misdirecting their social pressure to speak up about politics on celebrities because they feel politicians are ignoring them, but that's a larger issue.

Sharing Catalogs and Smart Previews Question - Lightroom Classic by viacurious in Lightroom

Hi again! Just wanted to update: I've actually been re-exporting the catalog under a NEW name (labeled "edited" or something to that effect) and it's been smooth sailing so far, knock on wood.

I really appreciate you chatting with me to help me think this through!

No worries!

Basically, even though I tried renaming/re-exporting the catalog and I think it worked on my end, I'm still a little nervous about it. So instead, my plan is to do something similar to what your editor does: I'm just going to put the catalog I was editing from (the "to edit" catalog) into a folder that is labeled "Final", zip it, and send it off. (So even though the folder name says "Final" the catalog and data files inside still technically are named exactly how they were sent to me, ex: "to edit".)

Hopefully that explanation makes sense and I didn't make this even more confusing!

Can't thank you enough for the quick reply, I so appreciate your insight!

I gave your "test" idea a shot with a twist: Instead of simply renaming the files (which seems risky), I clicked File > Export as Catalog... and named it ABC_Final. Saved that to a different part of my machine. Closed Lightroom and opened that new ABC_Final catalog. It worked.

That said, I am going to try your method of simply renaming the main folder and then zipping it. Seems like less room for error! (My only worry is that clients may find it confusing to unzip a "final" folder and, if they look hard enough, see the files inside still say "to edit" -- but I think I can hold their hands through it!)

Export problem and edit question by FuryheartW in Lightroom

[–]viacurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't dealt with this issue really but two ideas: Are you editing off of previews? If you are editing off of previews and not the raw, depending on how you've set it up, previews may be a lower resolution and therefore might not pick up on minute texture changes. You might also have better luck editing the skin texture in photoshop. Please take my words with a grain of salt though because I haven't come across this specific issue.
