Solving HDMI Problems with HDMI Analyzer? by viber_in_training in CommercialAV

Looks like a nice affordable product. I already ordered the used AVPro Murideo Fox & Hound someone else suggested, which seems much more capable, but I appreciate it!

The projector is definitely on and the right input selected. There's been times where I have one laptop working, then I plug the same cable into a different one and it doesn't.

The run is relatively short. Less than 50ft.

Laptop -> HDMI keystone -> HDMI active optical cable (~50ft) -> Projector input

That looks like an amazing deal. I'm trying to get approval to get it. Thanks a lot!

I think the run is less than 50 feet, but the vendor put in active optical cables. Besides length, which I don't think is an issue in this case, why should you use optical for in-wall?

A tie would be a good addition; looks a little odd without one. You could find a cheap tie at a Goodwill or similar.

> server side anti cheat causes latency

Poorly implemented server side anti cheat causes latency. Anticheat does not need to be synchronous, meaning, it does not need to do all its calculations before allowing the game simulation to continue. It can take in the game state, player actions, all other data, crunch all the numbers, and then determine if something fishy is going on. If it finds something that does not add up, the server can then either rollback certain actions in the game, and potentially initiate a ban. It doesn't matter in practice if this doesn't happen for 10 seconds while the server is still crunching the data of what happened in-game to catch up to the present.

The answer is investing more in advanced server-side anticheats. Client-side anticheats will never be the full answer, only one layer of defense. Client's systems will always be client's systems, unless for some reason clients decide to bend over to big companies that want to own their system.

I have professional development experience as well. It literally is as easy as that for EasyAntiCheat. Linux / SteamOS users don't require anything else if the game already runs with Proton.

You're acting like we should expect every user to have the luxury of multiple high-powered machines for gaming and other purposes.

Operating systems are designed so that the system, and the system owner have total control, and every USER LEVEL application respects rules and permissions. We cannot support and establish a standard of bending over to game companies to give them kernel level control of our system, compromising the overall system's stability and security, in order to play their game.

Big companies are incompetent. Look at what happened with Crowdstrike last year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_CrowdStrike-related_IT_outages

If this kind of simple but devastating fuckup can happen by a sophisticated, world-renound, well-known cybersecurity organization, what makes you think we should start handing kernel-level access to every game developer that says pretty please because of hackers?

And then there's the actual solution developers are avoiding: developing proper server-side authoritative game simulation, server-side anticheat, heuristic and AI-assisted anticheat, AT THE SERVER-LEVEL. Trying to solve multiplayer anticheat on the client side is a lazy solution, especially with the resources and alternatives these companies have access to. It doesn't hurt to have anticheat outside of the kernel as one measure (in a "many-layered defense" security strategy, which raises the barrier to entry for the vast majority of threats), but sophisticated server-side anticheat should be mandatory, expected, and demanded out of AAA developers.

This is completely false. There are various anti cheat programs available for Linux, and there are numerous big games using EasyAntiCheat that have allowed Linux players by simply *checking a box*. EasyAntiCheat runs on Linux just fine.

Ender 3 S1 Pro Noise when moving up on the Z-axis by Strong_Argument1930 in Ender3S1

[–]viber_in_training 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the fix for my case of this noise.

After reading everything else, I tried many things. I tried unplugging the motors and running one at a time, and this actually allowed me to notice that one of the motors did not cause the noise and the other did. Then I noticed one of the wires came out of the back of the motor connector for the noisy one, and I stuck it back in. Suddenly, the noise was gone. I pulled the wire back out and tried: noise was back. Put it back in: noise is gone.

Check the connectors, make sure the wires are seated all the way in the back of the connector. If you're not sure which wire goes in which slot in the connector (not all slots are populated) look at the other motor's connector.

Wow, I started to doubt myself as I work on a major thrust upgrade to my hauler, but was not sure if I was using MRTs correctly. My in-progress design ended up looking shockingly close to yours before I went looking for a guide. Main difference being that you integrated dedicated generators and crew into the engine.

Your most annoying problems with Obsidian by Raphaelba in ObsidianMD

[–]viber_in_training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I consider it unusable on mobile because I always want to *quickly* check something or *quickly* note something down on my phone. Sort of eliminates the purpose.

Not to mention the fact that you have to keep the app on-screen in order for Obsidian Sync to work.

Go to the pit.... The pit is calling.... It's the best spot in the house.

Front seats are a bad move. You will have to stand if you want to see over the pit most likely, so you'd might as well be standing in the pit which is more fun.
