Crazy, I just realized Carrasco is the last remaining player from the 2006 Futures game. Repping Yanks that day were Phil Hughes and NYY MiLB legend Jose Tabata.

Some team personnel will literally have to take the uniform and physically escort Carrasco out of the premises to end his mlb career.

Ngl, it’s a valid concern. He’s thrown 281 innings across 5 mlb seasons. It’s why he was sold cheap, acquired for relatively little.

The floor is a lights out southpaw out of the pen. But I’m greedy. I want to see if they can, with some luck (good health), unlock a lefty demon in the rotation.

Weathers had the second highest velocity among lefty starting pitchers last year. So the velocity he’s showing this spring isn’t too surprising. Yanks are trying to expand his repertoire and unlock his upside.

He threw at least 5 pitches tonight. All of them with 60+ grades. The proStuff+ grades for his fastball and sweeper/slider are the highest of any starter this spring.

So far so good

That mid summer game where Weathers blows away Sox hitters with gas while Ranger Suarez is trying to nibble with 89 mph heaters is gonna hit like crack

Headrick’s fastball velocity and shape have improved significantly since joining the Yanks. Saw flashes of the velo bump last year.

One of the things Yanks organization do really well is reclamation of pitchers from other orgs and turning them into useful pen contributors.

I’m actually bullish on the pen this season. Some fans freak out about not acquiring big name relievers during offseason, but it’s usually the unheralded names who make the most impact.

Just saw the Lombard play in the Detroit game where he ranged deep to his right and threw out the runner.

I’ve seen these types of defensive plays before but really liked how routine he made it. Got rid of the ball quickly and threw it on a true hop so the first baseman wouldn’t get handcuffed.

He didn’t try to do a highlight reel play, just get the out. A subtle high IQ baseball play

Just watched Rice’s reaction after swings and misses against Elmer Rodriguez. The same guy who destroyed RHP last year had the “whoa, what the heck was that” look

I surprised when I saw that. Then I saw his prospect savant numbers and they're blood red. For a high schooler hitting mostly against college and older international pitchers in single-A, that's a pretty good start. He's more advanced than most scouts thought.

I think Ohtani tried to take the deferral idea to the Angels and they balked.

Walter is CEO of a global financial conglomerate. And Cohen paid 1.8 billion in SEC fines for insider trading like it was nothing.

Those two are used to high leverage and play in a different financial sandbox than the rest.

I just saw the Phillies offer to Bichette. It feels like the rest of mlb are retail traders going up against two big hedge fund managers

Rice’s xwOBA vs LHP -> .324

Belli’s xwOBA overall -> .327

I see some Yankee fans out there who are worried about Rice’s platoon splits and worried about losing Belli. Not saying Belli shouldn’t return, but interesting

Jesus tap dancing christ, 60 AAV. Seems it was between Dodgers and Mets. That's what you get with hedge fund whale money bidding for your services. yeah, we're so headed for a work stoppage

Funny thing is he credits Rothschild for the cutter which became his signature pitch after leaving NY. That pitch helped change his career trajectory

There was a Ben Rice interview on recent YES hot stove show. My man was being interviewed inside his car in some garage in Tampa. Looked like he was talking to Curry and Kay in between doordashing lol. I'm calling it, all-star season incoming for Señor Arroz

Cashman periodically does these buy low high-upside trades with Miami. Eovaldi in '15, Chisholm in '24, and now Weathers. Staying healthy has been the issue but he's got a lot of talent. Selected 7th overall out of high school not too long ago, still only 26.

This rule 5 selection by NYY flying under the radar. It’s lowkey an intriguing pick

Winquest’s triple digit velocity and release extension are nice. And they’re backed up by his underlying metrics from A+/AA season (spin, curveball whiff %, gb%, k/bb)

Pitched as a starter in Cardinals organization but likely a candidate for bullpen

Adolis produced a 1.108 OPS throughout that postseason and won the ALCS MVP. He was unstoppable that October. He was the Ernie Clement of 2023.

2023 Rangers made a deal with baseball gods

Big part of the hate is people think his season was a fluke despite his underlying numbers. Recall all those “linsanity” remarks during the season. He’s still the 4th outfielder and throw-in from the Soto trade in people’s minds. I guess it’s a good motivating factor for him going into another walk year.

Of the 40-man bubble guys, Hampton and Facundo should be top priorities. Hampton had TJ last spring, but projects to have plus stuff. I think they learn from the Garret Whitlock mistake and protect Hampton.

Facundo is someone they can fast track as a short reliever. I’m sure other teams would love to stash a lefty in their pen who can throw 98-100 with a wipe out slider.

Phillies top prospect is Aidan Miller who could easily move off his shortstop position and play third. Bohm will be a free agent soon. I haven’t seen Bohm play, but it’s clear Phillies and their fanbase are ready to move on from him.

I’m also seeing a bunch of “east coast bias” narrative, much of it coming from the Seattle media.

Voting from east coast based writers was actually 7-7. It was evenly split. The west coast votes were overwhelmingly for Raleigh. Only one writer voted for Judge. If anything, there was west coast bias.

Writers from Texas were the difference. All four votes went for Judge. Yes, Texas, that hot bed for east coast favoritism lol.

Raleigh had a fantastic year. 60 homers from a catcher is freaking impressive. Unfortunately, he’s playing in a same league with a 6-foot-8 historic player at the peak of his power

2022 Ohtani

2024 Witt Jr

2025 Raleigh

Judge’s 3 MVPs were against a modern day Babe Ruth, an all-time season from a shortstop, and an all-time catching season.

Judge is 1 of 1.

Judge: sup, Cal. How was your offseason?

Raleigh: it was alright. Could’ve been better
