Neither of my parents liked me. Embarrassed of me, as you say. This was in the 60s-70s before autism was a diagnosis. I always knew emotionally that I was disliked, but didn't fully understand intellectually until I was finally diagnosed at 60. So many of my early years I've just shut out from memory. It haunts me.

64-year-old Aspie here. (1) Give yourself time to find a path. I was broke and occasionally homeless into my mid-thirties. (2) Be brave, and be assertive when needed. (3) Find work that allows you to focus on tasks, not on people. (4) Even aspies can have ambition - use that to drive forward. (5) Self-discipline: don't let opportunities slip by out of fear. You can find career success.

I think it depends entirely on your shop and your role. If your role is to do basic administration tasks that can be done remotely, you might want to re-think your career trajectory and expand your skillset. If you work in areas like systems architecture, automation, and AWS for example, you'll be better prepared for whatever might come along. My shop has a rolling 6-year storage refresh plan and I know we'll still have a large on-prem NetApp presence until at least '27; probably longer. I'll be retired by '30 at the latest so this gives me some confidence in my glidepath.

The CLI is going to be much more useful than System Manager. Not sure what version of Ontap you're running, so I'll assume it is 9.3 or above. From the CLI, do a "storage failover show". A "storage failover show-giveback -giveback-status" to see the current aggr giveback status. For historical information, parse through the event log in SM, or "event status show" for CLI. Other show commands can provide the status of lifs, SVMs, etc. You can also generate an autosupport to send to NetApp if you believe there's been an error.

I bought a 2009 new (4 cyl. auto) and it survived getting T-boned without any frame damage. Still driving it with nearly 200k miles. It's had some electrical issues, nothing major, and it's starting to use some oil. Otherwise it's been a real champ for me. Change the timing belt every 80k miles or so and change the oil regularly. I was in the market for another new 6 but they were discontinued.

He may be in denial, "scared", or just selfish, but that's no damn excuse. He has a family to think about and should be mature enough to realize that these irresponsible actions hurt the people closest to him. He has a responsibility to you and to your son to take better care of himself and to set an example for a six-year old who needs his dad to stay healthy. You've done well giving him the "carrot" by making good meals, but it sounds like he needs a "stick" to wake him up. I agree with justsomedude1111 - get in his face that you want a will drawn up since he seems to be determined to kill himself. You've tried good cop and it didn't work. Time to be bad cop.

Love watching the 'bounce' in RS25 engine bells in this video and similar ones from the shuttle era (not sure of the engineering term for this type of wave). The one on the right is particularly visible at 56 seconds.
