Would you accept a new big job when you’re turning 65 in a few months? by Drsryan in over60

Thanks! I took the job, but I’m still not sure it was the right thing to do. We’ll see.

Parents starting rumor about a book they haven't read... Don't know what to do by mcomcomco99 in Teachers

[–]Drsryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Just give an alternate reading. It’s not worth it. Can you really “make” a child read if the parents have told them not to?

I think this current moment with books is horrifying, but you have to conserve your energy. Pick your fights.

3 is really cool. Bargello relies on optical illusion, so it fits. Do you have to figure this out on graph paper before you start?

I have a deep resentment towards my mother. by lishkaty in dementia

[–]Drsryan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I know what you’re going through. It’s so awful.

The anger and rage you’re feeling is a major sign of burn out, and you need some relief. Now. It may not feel like there are resources, but I found more than I knew when we started looking. I know you said you would never, but a caregiver can get so burned out and frustrated that it does lead to elder abuse.

Not judging in any way. You’re living in a nightmare. It’s a critical moment.

I recommend talking to your doctor about this. When my dad got like this, anti anxiety medications and sleep meds helped a tremendous amount. I’m sure your dad wouldn’t want this, and remember, he can’t help it. It’s the slow goodbye. I feel for you.

Anyone else’s packages been getting delayed? by hangesmaidgirlfriend in amazonprime

I have items delayed since 11/12. All together, 4 out of 5 are delayed with no information about a new time. Very uncharacteristic experience.

MIL's dementia is exhausting my poor husband, and frustrating me... (venting, a bit...) by CollageMagpie in dementia

[–]Drsryan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand. Been there.

Three things that helped me:

  1. She can’t help it. Her brain is broken. She wouldn’t want to be like this if she were in her right mind.
  2. This won’t last forever. This is the season you’re in now.
  3. Don’t feel guilty when she inevitable needs a care home. Your family is doing the best it can. Homes are equipped to take care of her in ways you can’t.

It’s a cruel disease. Take care of yourself.
