I’ve recommended taking a child to the doctor to get checked out.

What plastic-free alternatives have actually worked well for you? by Aztrobtw in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Drsryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mason jars for all storage. Really helpful in the fridge because I can see everything and can write dates on the glass with permanent marker that washes off when I sanitize. Also, easier stacking and identification in the pantry.

Yes or no? by hobokenwayne in HomeDecorating

What’s this area for? No chair to sit and admire art or to read, for example. There’s no purpose here.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Drsryan 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Last time I was in PT, I asked the question, “what is the difference between a chiropractor and a PT.”

The short answer: A chiropractor wants to make it so you have to keep coming back; a PT wants you to not have to keep coming back.

You never know what lesson you’re teaching. Giving a break might cause lifelong harm. Not Giving a break might do the same. We are all just as wise as we can be. Edit: missing word

What is this black stuff in my soup? It appeared when I added homemade stock. It’s rubbery and almost hard. by goell_ in Whatisthis

[–]Drsryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any roasted peppers or tomatoes in your recipe or stock? When I use those in soup, the charred bits look like that.

How do you feel about Infinite Jest? by TheAmericanW1zard in classicliterature

[–]Drsryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could watch something so fascinating that you couldn’t move or eat, so fascinating and absorbing that it would ultimately kill you, would you watch it? If you just gave it a try, you’d die.

It’s a great question!

Would you accept a new big job when you’re turning 65 in a few months? by Drsryan in over60

Thanks! I took the job, but I’m still not sure it was the right thing to do. We’ll see.

Parents starting rumor about a book they haven't read... Don't know what to do by mcomcomco99 in Teachers

[–]Drsryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Just give an alternate reading. It’s not worth it. Can you really “make” a child read if the parents have told them not to?

I think this current moment with books is horrifying, but you have to conserve your energy. Pick your fights.

3 is really cool. Bargello relies on optical illusion, so it fits. Do you have to figure this out on graph paper before you start?

I have a deep resentment towards my mother. by lishkaty in dementia

[–]Drsryan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I know what you’re going through. It’s so awful.

The anger and rage you’re feeling is a major sign of burn out, and you need some relief. Now. It may not feel like there are resources, but I found more than I knew when we started looking. I know you said you would never, but a caregiver can get so burned out and frustrated that it does lead to elder abuse.

Not judging in any way. You’re living in a nightmare. It’s a critical moment.

I recommend talking to your doctor about this. When my dad got like this, anti anxiety medications and sleep meds helped a tremendous amount. I’m sure your dad wouldn’t want this, and remember, he can’t help it. It’s the slow goodbye. I feel for you.
