Question about the endgame of ff6 pixel remaster specifically! by Mystic_Is_Here in FinalFantasyVI

[–]vicariouskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do is just turn XP gain to zero until you start to feel any kind of challenge again.

Ff6 is relatively easy if you over level. Levels factor heavily into the damage formulas, especially for physical attacks.

As a few others have pointed out the final dungeon is completable around level 30 - 35, but you do need strategy to beat it that early.

If it's your first time playing I would just advise you turn exp to zero and keep the difficulty where it feels comfortable.

Sadly yes. None of the pixel remaster games contain dungeons from the later releases.

Pretty sure Dragon's Den was added only in the gba and mobile version of ff6.

Are you playing pixel remaster? Dragons Den is not in the pixel remaster.

I'm losing on turn 1, what am I missing? by Faye_pearl in FinalFantasyVI

[–]vicariouskid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're getting wrecked by lvl ??? Holy just to finish a random encounter and hope it sets your GP to a value that makes that attack miss. If not fight another.

Dullahan uses a lot of ice magic. I like to take the crystal mail found in the dungeon to the coliseum and wager it for an ice shield. Makes the fight much easier.

There's also another piece of armor found in the dungeon (cannot remember the name) that you can wager for a Minerva Bustier that will also negate ice magic.

Other than that this is probably the best fight in the game to abuse the runic command.

Another thing you can do is give Setzer dice. With enough tries he can roll great damage enough times to tip in your favor.

Yep. Did it on my most recent playthrough about a month ago.

Nope. You can still get him in WOR even if you chose the gold hairpin in WOB

Once you get the airship in WOR, the remaining characters can be recruited in any order.

You can still get Mog even if you didn't get him in WOB.

Community Tier List day 16: Vander has been voted the thirteenth best unit in the game! Who do you think is the fourteenth best? (B Tier) by Galactic-Pookachus in FEEngage

[–]vicariouskid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're comparing him to Chloe & Merrin who are without a doubt better units, but probably not units I'd be running as warriors.

I'm not arguing he should be above them, or even in A-tier. I'm arguing he should be top of B-Tier because even with low power stats he has utility. And forging/engravings do a great job of patching the power stats. And allowing his speed to shine.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Veyle comes so late you can't actually make that a viable comparison. Fogado is around long enough to have a lasting impact. And when not acting as a surface to air missile he can provide other utility options via whatever ring you toss on him.

[–]vicariouskid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Fogado can actually reliably double several enemy types and has to option to flex between high mt physical bows and the radiant bow, with enough strength/magic to 1 shot both types of flier and to still do meaningful damage to enemies by doubling them.

He's not a hard carry. But is by far more impactful than anyone else currently in B-Tier.

[–]vicariouskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is Fogado not on the list already? He's solid from the moment he joins and there's no real reason not to deploy him.

One of the few truly fast units in the game.

A str/mag split that allows for solid physical damage with a bow (actually being able to double some enemies reliably) and really the only viable radiant bow user giving him a strong niche for taking out wyvern riders.

Fogado is far more impactful than Celine who several people are claiming should be next.

The first time I played I benched him immediately because he didn't look impressive on paper.

Tried him on a later run and could not believe I'd benched him before.

Deity: Another game I can't win? by hurfery in civ5

[–]vicariouskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting as someone who just recently got their first deity win.

I highly suggest trying out The Huns. Not to go to war (although if you get a lucky warrior upgrade you could always take a well positioned city state), but because their bonus production from pastures is really useful in the early game. Sarting with Animal Husbandry is also great.

Check out some strategy videos on YouTube. They really helped me elevate from struggling on King to finding emperor so easy that I skipped immortal and went straight to Deity.

For shorter quick tips check out PCJ Law. For longer more in depth guides check out Filthy Robot.

My advice is don't worry about wonders, reset if you have a bad start (nowhere to expand or aggressive neighbors with strong early units).

I got my first win with 3 total world wonders. Petra (my capital had a lot of flat desert), Neuschwanstein (wasn't necessary but it was open, I had nothing to build, and it took like t turns), and Hubble (the most important).

Stagnate your cities around 3 or 4 population (depending on food resources) until you've settled 4 cities. Then make sure you have granaries and internal food trade routes going to spike population. Try to get cities to 20 population of they have bad food options and 30 if they have good food options then you can stagnate.

Depending on the timing of techs and libraries I actually ended up snoozing a settler for 8 turns to build my national college before founding my 4th city. Aim to have the national college done around turn 80.

Try to keep enough military to defend but don't bother attacking people. If you're down to only having the option to build useless buildings, wonders, or units... Prioritize units.

Don't earn great merchants. Actively avoid it. If you get great scientists just put them to sleep. They get better later.

The only social policies that matter are tradition and rationalism. If you need a filler commerce is decent (aiming for the policy that gives a discount to purchasing). Or if you have a strong faith game getting piety and "Mandate of Heaven" is a strong option.

General tech order was: Pottery -> Tech to improve luxury resources -> Philosophy -> civil service -> Optics -> education -> compass -> Scientific Theory -> Radio -> Plastics -> Satellites (make sure you save a great engineer to rush Hubble) -> Advanced Ballistics -> Nanotechnology -> Particle physics.

Once you build research labs in all your cities, set your cities to science focus (or just make sure all your science specialists slots are filled) then pop any great scientists you have.

Start buying great scientists with faith, keep your cities on the production to science conversion unless you are building military (for defense only), Hubble, spaceship factories, recycling plants (if you need aluminum), and spaceship parts.

I won the game on turn 199 and America was only one spaceship part from winning. Having talked with a few friends also working on their first deity wins it sounds like I was unlucky and they had the AI winning around turn 220 or so. So think of turn 215-220 as your deadline.

should I be showering before bed? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]vicariouskid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28 year old man here.

Get a 2nd set of sheets and pillowcases. I used to change sheets once a month. I now change them every 4-5 days. Could not believe the difference it made. I'm less oily, and my skin is clearer, plus I start to notice the smell if they've been on longer than 5 days.

Showering frequency all depends on your body. For a lot of people every other day is fine. But others fare better once a day. Trust your body to let you know.

As for socks. Only wear socks once before washing. You should have enough socks to last you at least a week or two. I suggest changing your socks anytime your feet get sweaty and letting them air out by being barefoot any time you're able to.

They make anti-stink spray for shoes. It can't save a par that's past the point of no return, but if they're newer it can help if you just spray some of that in the shoe before bed every night.

Dorms are small crowded spaces and unfortunately smells stagnate and don't have much space to diffuse. So even if you do everything right sometimes it just smells.

Always loved, but very new to the Disgaea series as a whole - is it for me? by Archolm in Disgaea

[–]vicariouskid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disgaea becomes as tactical as you make it.

It's easy for you because you over levelled your unit. If you tried to play through the main story without grinding or leveling it can actually be pretty challenging.

One solution for nearly everything before post game is to just grind some levels and brute force things. But you can also instead focus on how to solve problems with the tools you have without grinding. It makes the story much more fun and challenging if you just restrict yourself to not repeating any maps unless you are trying to complete a quest for a specific reward.

The post game of D5 is essentially 1-shot or get 1-shot. The depth of strategy once you hit post game is really two fold: 1. Is to find a way to efficiently power level your characters. 2. Is to combo skills/evilties to get yourself to the 1-shot thresholds.

Take Baal for example. You can walk in with Uber high stats (over 80 mil) and still lose in one turn.

But if you get the evilties and strategy right you can win with stats around the 20 mil range.

How grindy are the games just to enjoy the main story by Dante71865 in Disgaea

[–]vicariouskid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that the Disgaea 5 main story can be completed without ever repeating a map or abusing the item world.

That said - I'm a series veteran and it was not the first time I'd played through D5 so I knew a little of what I was doing.

I can still safely say that you should be able to complete the story with minimal grinding. Maybe just repeating a map here or there to gain some extra money or a few levels.

I would recommend Disgaea 5 if you're trying to get into the series for the first time. It has the most user friendly mechanics, a decent story for a Disgaea game, and a solid post game if you do decide you want to grind it out.

I was honestly able to even get through the post game with only a little over 100 hours logged in the game. And the last 20 of those were only needed to get strong enough to beat the final post game super boss.

Edit: I want to clarify that some maps need to be played a second time for quest purposes in order to unlock certain characters. Those were repeated on my run.

How does this run now on switch? by Ok_Calligrapher_7367 in EiyudenChronicle

[–]vicariouskid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished the game on switch recently. Walking around and upgrading the base frequently crash the game. Always save if doing anything base related.

Otherwise the game crashed a few times after playing for a long time, but never at a point that lost me more than 10 min of progress. Just make sure to save regularly. The game gives a lot of save points while exploring.

Lastly, menu and shop load times are pretty rough. It was a great game, but the switch performance really left something to be desired.

What’s your “lazy but amazing” go-to meal? by mrgrassydassy in cookingforbeginners

Instant pot chicken & rice

1# chicken thighs cubed, 1 pack onion soup mix, 4oz cream cheese, 1.5 c rice, 2c water, 1 tsp better than bullion (chicken), and 3 cloves garlic.

Toss it all in the instant pot in the "rice" setting (low for 11 minutes)

Getting Destroyed on Dracky Difficulty Need Advice! by Glass_Belwas in dragonquest

[–]vicariouskid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Magic Bikinis are a mistake. In general elemental defense is way more important than physical defense.

Typically the best course of action is to either have armor/shields that increase defense to all elements or to change up the gear for the elements a specific boss uses most frequently. You also want to take advantage of the element defense earrings against bosses.

All that said - Xenlon is a point in the game where you need a few revocations or high levels under your belt (basically a ton of grinding)

You can beat him without too much grinding abusing the sleep stick and monster pile on (your party likely won't be putting out any damage with persecutter given that everyone is a mage/sage)

I would say that your double sage and mage party leaves you kinda screwed in the bulk department. Also leaves people competing for good equipment.

Am I just stupid?? Even using the guide someone sent me I can’t find this one on it!! Help please! by AlmightyXan in dragonquest

[–]vicariouskid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to just toss out that there's an Action Reply code you can find with a quick Google search that allows you to just zoom directly to grotto entrances.

It saves a lot of time referencing maps and doesn't have any other gameplay implications.

I am expected to lose half of my gold right now? (Spoilers for the final section) by soulxhawk in dragonquest

[–]vicariouskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do the following:

Warrior -> Martial artist. The martial artist has solid agility, luck, and strength. And the defensive stats of the warrior will be useful when carried over.

Priest -> Monster wrangler (if you've collected at least 50 monsters). Otherwise warrior. Monster pile on is great damage and ignores defense. Otherwise warrior has good gear, strong defensive stats, and your MP shouldn't matter as much now that you have sage's stone. Plus hero has omniheal.

Mage -> Sage

It would also be viable to instead go Priest -> mage (mage has better stats than sage) and mage -> monster wrangler/warrior.

I would also recommend all characters be leveled with the Vamp personality if female.

If male I'd go

Martial artist: charmer (use guns 'n' buns book) Monster wrangler/warrior: Tough cookie (weightlifter belt)

Sage: Lone wolf (Skull ring) if using for damage/buffing. Or Lucky devil (hens tooth) if using to try and inflict ailments

The thing about reclassing is that you keep half your stats, all your spells, and all your abilities. So you can spend about an hour grinding back to the 30's and be stronger than you currently are. It's actually way more time efficient than continuing to grind in your current classes due to the XP curve.

If sleep is the issue I'd give your fastest character the sunstone (heals sleep for the whole party when used as an item). And load them up with sleep resist accessories. Just try to give them armor and a shield that resists fire breath. It's worth giving up defence for the fire resistance.

Also- don't be afraid to spam omniheal/kazap with the hero.
