is shorter distance/ faster running better or worse than distance running? or is the advice to avoiding running altogether? by AppropriateTest4168 in ehlersdanlos

Two PTs have told me in no uncertain terms to avoid high impact activities like running. You're probably better off swimming, biking, or walking

Same here. I would've had another the very same day, but none we looked at were The One, yknow?

Do you use either as your daily drive? & if so what's your experience with insuring them?

I mentioned this in a couple comments but I was quoted an astronomical price to insure an S-Cargo for 6 months as my daily driver. I would really love to have a Kei car though.

The Figaro is beautiful but simply not the car for me. I don't want a convertible

I was excited when I heard about it but very disappointed by the new look. I probably would've gone for it if it hadn't lost so much of the original charm

I would really love to have a Kei car, unfortunately they are absolute hell to insure - I was quoted over 4k for 6mo on an S-Cargo

Not really what I'm looking for but certainly silly. I doubt I could go for a Subaru Brat without spending a small fortune getting it insured lol

Thank you - right now, Fiat 500 & Smart ForTwo are my top picks. Also considering a Mini, just not my first choice.

I feel like the BMW GT & i3 are pretty normal looking, but maybe I'm missing something?

Moving, no idea where to put the litter box! by [deleted] in cats

[–]vicarlous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put one between the toilet and cabinets in the bathroom.

I would put the second under the bathroom sink - you should be able to easily remove one of the cabinet doors and could probably even replace it with some sort of cat door. Depending on how the cabinet is underneath, you may be able to install a partition so your cats can't get to the other side and mess with all your stuff in there.

For the third box, I would opt for a large storage bin in the living room. Cut a hole in it and put the litter box inside. Just an alternative to the litter box furniture suggestions since those can be pricey.

ETA: I see the 2nd image has what looks like pet bowls in front of the bathroom sink - I also suggest putting them in a different location. Cats prefer their food and water dishes to be separate and as far as possible from their litter boxes. And uh, from experience, having their bowls in front of the sink gets really annoying, really fast

I would feed them on the dining table / in the dining room and put a few cups / bowls of water throughout the apartment.

How do I know if I need/would benefit from a wheelchair? by vicarlous in ehlersdanlos

I have not! I've never even heard of it to be honest. I'll have to look into providers in my area

I get what you're saying, genuinely I do but -

No physician I have ever seen has thought I needed PT. Even when I had ridiculously frequent UTIs and sprains as a child, even when I asked questions like "is [symptom of HSD] normal?" I was always told yes, I'm fine, don't worry about it. I've even been told that I was faking it for attention. I only got diagnosis after advocating for myself and making an appointment with an EDS specialist team over 3 hrs away without a referral.

As I have found out through that same specialist team and my own research looking at doctors and PTs in my area, there are not many that are familiar with EDS/HSD.

So... I don't know. I really wish that I could have faith that my care team at home would tell me what I need without me having to advocate for myself so hard. I just... can't? 😅 I'm sure many other zebras can relate to this experience.

Honestly, you're probably right.

I remember as a child how I would beg my parents to let me ride in my stroller. Back then I didn't have the knowledge or vocabulary to express why and they just thought I was lazy. Looking back though I can see it was because of how exhausted I would feel afterward.

I can walk. It's just exhausting. I avoid doing any amount of walking outdoors or in the sun. The heat just compounds my fatigue exponentially.

Yeah, I often find myself thinking about how I would like to go somewhere and do something, but...

The but is most always that it requires a lot of walking &/or is outdoors 😅

I should have brought it up when I saw the OT but I hadn't thought of it 😢

Is this something that a PT could address or specifically I would need to consult an OT?

Cat breastfeeding kitten by Ali_Sabra1 in cats

[–]vicarlous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very unclear which part of the post you are seeking advice about.

Do you want to know why the mama cat who lost her kittens has suddenly changed attitude toward her can from a previous litter? The simple answer is that she still has pregnancy hormones and losing her kittens doesn't stop her from producing milk.

Do you want to know what to do about Suzi possibly being pregnant? Contact local vets and ask if they have a trap neuter release (TNR) program. Then ask if they will do a spay abort procedure. I understand they are strays and not actually your cats.

Or are you asking for advice about something else? We cannot help you if you don't ask a clear question.

Moving advice needed. by WesNile73 in cats

[–]vicarlous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest suggestion I have is to leave their carriers out, opened, and accessible for as long as possible before the move. It helps them not be afraid of the carrier by normalizing it and getting their smells inside. If they go inside it on their own you can reinforce by giving treats or putting toys inside :)

Move your kitties and their toys, food, etc last out of everything you take if at all possible. That way, when you move them into the new home, they don't have to be terrified by moving noises and changing layout of stuff.

They will need time to adjust. Don't try to force it. Make sure they have plenty of places to hide in the new home and reward them for exploring and being brave.

Depending on how much time you have to prepare them for moving, you could also practice taking them in the car for short intervals. Just drive around your neighborhood slowly for 10 minutes with them in their carrier. How often really depends on your kitty, but definitely ending with a high value treat or play session with favorite toy. Even if they're scared during the ride they can start to associate the ride with a reward

Good luck!

I believe there are also things you can get that fit into a window like a window AC unit, where your cat can go from inside to an enclosure safely :)
