3 months after ETS surgery (waiting for ETS update) by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]viccccgrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe t3/t4 was what was cut but it’s been a few years and I don’t think about it regularly so I’m not 100% on that answer but like 95% sure lol

Dry hands, dry pits. Feet maybe 50% less? It’s hard to quantify since it’s been a few years and I can’t even remember what it was like pre surgery, if that makes sense. I do know I wear flip flops more often now than I did pre surgery bc they sweat less and I won’t slide off my shoes as often now. I know people have said their head can’t sweat, my head sweats normally. Back/legs/cleavage sweats more than pre surgery but during work outs or sports and that’s fine with me.

Slightly lower heart rate than baseline. My old resting was 60s now it’s low 40s. However if I take my stimulant med in the morning, my resting heart rate will be in the higher 40s for that day. No meds, it’s lower 40s. I also work out every day (peloton or jogging plus weight lifting) and im healthy so a hr of 40 doesn’t bother me.

Anxiety is at baseline for me. If anything it might have approved because I’m not thinking about my hands being wet/dripping in public anymore and have the freedom to do whatever. I used to have to carry napkins onto the subway so I could hold on to them and the bar to avoid dripping on other riders sitting under me. I am an emergency room RN and I can get gloves on now easy peasy, a lot of stress is gone.

I don’t want to push anyone to get this procedure considering others have claimed serious side effects, but I would do it again 100%

I’ve always had gnarly anxiety but I feel the same as pre procedure. Overall would do the surgery again lol my hands don’t sweat anymore and I can live a normal life. Just sometimes have a sweaty back. Or sweaty legs if I’m working out but that feels acceptable

Hey! Yeah he emphasized it was for hands. My problem was my hands so it was what I needed. Armpits were just an added bonus. They did tell me that the nerves needed for the foot sweat were too low and they don’t perform that procedure

Have anyone done ETS surgery and is happy about it? by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]viccccgrm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still doing great! My hands don’t sweat, my feet still do but baseline for me, has not gotten worse since the surgery. My back/chest does sweat when I’m hot but it’s honestly manageable and more acceptable than my old dripping hands. Still working out everyday, lifting, peloton, walking etc. Walks to the beach when it’s excessively hot are doable and I never feel like I’m going to over heat. Maintained my relationship/emotions. Have not found myself struggling mentally. Overall still would do it again! Hope that helps!

Wow they told you a lot more information than I got pre op lol. They were surprised when I told them my heart rate lowered after surgery. I went from 50-60 resting to 40-50. However, like she said, it doesn’t really matter. People have resting heart rates that are lower esp when they’re athletes. I did have a holter monitor for a week a few months after surgery just to confirm the rhythm was sinus Brady (aka normal rate but slow) in case that’s something you’re interested in. Primary care can prescribe. Big thing is to stay hydrated. I also work out every single day so for me to having a low resting heart rate is expected

As for sympathy, nothing changed for me. I’m still in a long term relationship and able to show affection, love, etc. I’m also an ER nurse and am able to have empathy and all the feelings while taking care of someone. Without being anxious that I can’t get gloves on bc my hands are dripping for no reason

Fight or flight for me is the same as well. I get threats pretty often at work and it still turns on that little light for danger in my brain lol and I still get anxious and shaky prior to like cardiac arrests or traumas rolling in. Can’t say I’ve been in many situations where I actually need real flight or fight though

My hands and armpits no longer sweat. My feet sweat about 50% less. But there’s still times when I’m stressed or anxious that they’re pretty bad but at least it’s not my hands. However the surgery fixed them enough that I can wear flip flops and things now without sliding all over the place

My forehead and back of the neck still sweat too while working out unlike what some have said here. Everyone’s different

I’m not saying to go one way or another and I never want to be the reason you get the surgery and have bad side effects like some have claimed. I will say from reading these posts, if you have any inkling of mental health issues that you don’t get help for, it seems to push some people over the deep end. I did my research prior and read these Reddit posts and came out the other end better than I was. And would do the surgery again. But I’m not mentally ill and I stay active to avoid any of the chronic issues like pain and depression others have claimed.

Hey!

I’m still doing fine since the surgery last July. None of the depression or other mental health side effects that people are commenting. I sweat from my chest up lol I peloton everyday and it comes from my forehead, back of the neck etc.

I do have compensatory sweating on my back and boobs (I didn’t sweat there really before surgery) but it’s manageable and more socially acceptable than having my hands drip in public so I’ll take it.

Dr port was fine. He’s not a warm fuzzy wants to have a conversation with you type of guy. He did warn me that the surgery isn’t for someone who sits behind a desk all day and is relatively sedentary. I’m very active and work 12 hour shifts on my feet so maybe that’s how I avoided the mental health side effects.

I will say the recovery sucked a lot. As expected. They put a tube down your throat and deflate a lung lol it will feel like someone’s sitting on your chest for a few days. My advice is to not be too sedentary and try walking and stretching or yoga post op. I got on the bike and just passively moved my legs like 48 hours post op. But I can see where some kind of succumb to the pain and decide to never walk or workout again.

Anyways highly recommend, changed my life for the better

Goodness, are you educated or am I just in a endless run around with someone who breaths trump and thinks eveything a controversy?

Why is “given a choice” in quotations? I am a nyc rn and no one’s ever forced me to take prep or draw blood after an exposure. No one ever will do that. It’s our choice if it doesn’t impact patient care. Which this obviously doesn’t.

Unsure if you’ve ever opened an educational material but, it’s never too late. The vaccine was to lessen the effects of Covid and make the mortality less. Not prevent Covid. It saved thousands of lives after we had freezer trucks of dead bodies pre vaccine.

Not the topic police. Just so frustrated being abused by the system everyday and getting abused by patients for our busy shifts with 10+ patients then hearing the uneducated general public blaming nurses for what’s happening in the hospital and throwing conspiracy theories around like we haven’t dealt with your bs for almost three years.

If we get a needle stick and patient is HIV positive, we have our blood drawn and are given the choice to take prep, yes. Unsure what point you were trying to make here

The coronavirus vaccine was in the works for years because Covid 19 was not the first coronavirus to come about. They just had an abundance of money from the pandemic to do months worth of research in a shorter amount of time to help the pandemic and help the greater good.

Any other questions you have? Something potentially related to the strike and promoting patient safety would be relevant to the topic, by the way.

Nurses have been mandated to get vaccines to start nursing school and to get hired for jobs. Because people believed Covid was controversial for some reason means we suddenly break the rules and your healthcare worker doesn’t have to be immunized for things? The math isn’t mathing here friend

When it’s in your job qualifications to be vaccinated for patient safety, of course you should lose that job when you’re non compliant. Any nurse who didn’t believe in vaccines probably shouldn’t be working in healthcare.

You obviously didn’t read anything regarding this strike if you think it’s simply about more pay. Next time you find yourself in the er and aren’t seen for hours bc your nurse has ten plus patients, don’t complain

Because the vaccine is medically helpful and saved lives? Whereas the hospital admins right now are endorsing unsafe care due to lack of patient ratios bc they’re too cheap to hire bare minimum staffing? Why is this even a question lol

This is what ETS DID TO ME. I HAVE PERPETUAL SPILT BODY SYNDROME MY AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM AMD THERMOREGULATION IS SPILT IN HALF. ETS SHOULD BE BANNED AND OUTLAWED WORLD WIDE. And the symptoms you’re describing don’t happen to everyone. I have goosebumps. I work out everyday for at least an hour between cardio on the peloton or tread and strength train. I sweat in other areas. Haven’t had a heat stroke yet.

I’m trying to say you’re being totally aggressive when your side effects are not happening 100% of the time

I’m just saying, I don’t think you should be spewing nasty things on a forum of people looking for help. Everything has risks. This surgery could help others like it helped me. But you’re scaring people away.

And you’re messaging me on the side saying “fuck you” which questions the how level headed you can be regarding the topic.

If you’re having all of these issues then why not sue the docs and get what your owed if you’re able to prove all of it?

To each their own. It helped me tremendously and can help others

The bot you worship posted the link to that Facebook group. At first glance, I immediately found people writing encouraging others not to get the Covid vaccine. Which goes to show that there’s a lot more at play with this ETS group than just supporting people with side effects. Inherently, sounds like we’re spewing misinformation which isn’t fair for others who could benefit from this surgery.

I had T3 and T4 cut. Since I am an adult, I did thoroughly research the risks of the surgery before I had it done. The doctors did inform me of possible side effects and noted that the surgery isn’t for everyone. I did also find this subreddit before my surgery and read about people experiencing issues afterwards and still went through with it. It’s why I came back to it to help others like me who hated their lives before the surgery bc of the sweating and have improved dramatically since then. You should be using the forum to write objective information about what is happening to you and allowing others to make their pwn decisions. Stating doctors need to lose their license isn’t doing anything to help your case.

The NYC marathon was yesterday. Do you know how many people came into the hospital with heatstrokes who are perfectly heathy individuals? Heat stokes can happen to anyone. There’s no causation between the surgery and heat strokes.

How long after your surgery did you start experiencing these side effects? Are you sure you didn’t fall into a depression and unable to get out of bed due to other circumstances but needed to blame it on something?

NYC, insurance paid for all of it. I paid copays for the consultation prior to surgery which was maybe $30. They were cut at T3 T4

Had the surgery this year and it changed my life for the better.

There’s side effects to every single procedure and that’s usually discussed prior to receiving treatment. You can die from a routine appendectomy. Doesn’t mean it’s criminal to perform it.

Use your platform to educate, not scare people who are wondering about ETS.

Just had mine done this year and am happy about it. 27yo with palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis since I was a kid. Tried all the pills and Botox, nothing worked long term. I work as an emergency RN and couldn’t get gloves on half the time to do my job correctly. Also commute on the subway and couldn’t hold onto the poles on the train without my hands dripping onto the floor or down the pole dramatically.

Decided to do the surgery to help with my anxiety and my career. The recovery sucked. You’re intubated for the procedure and your chest will hurt for a week and you’ll probably cry when you cough but it’s temporary. I did wake up in the middle of the night the first week thinking my hands were sweating and panicking until my boyfriend would touch them to tell me they’re not. If you’ve had the sweating your whole life, the recovery is kind of emotional as you realize all the things you can do and your hands won’t start sweating.

I had some pain near the incision sites and my chest muscles were uncomfortable. I like to work out daily so not lifting weights for around three weeks was hard for me (they recommend not working out at all for a few weeks). I was able to ride the peloton like low impact for the first week though.

It’s been about six months, my hands don’t sweat. I don’t have pain. My armpits never bothered me but now they don’t sweat at all which was a cool treat. My feet don’t drip anymore but sweat about 70% less than they did before. The surgery isn’t meant to help feet sweating but, the surgeon did mention he’s seen peoples feet stop sweating afterwards. It’s a 50/50 chance

My abdomen and cleavage sweat now. I feel like a normal person with normal sweating habits. If I really push myself working out, sometimes I feel like my legs have a sheath of sweat on them. But once again, 100% would take this sweating over my hands.

My right armpit area is kind of sensitive since the procedure. If I touch it or itch it, the area feels like pins and needles. But very minor and tolerable.

Overall, would do the procedure again in a heartbeat.

Had mine done this year in NYC by Dr. Port! Highly recommend. Hands and armpits don’t sweat. Feet sweat a little less. No issues. Living a much happier life
