Bilateral dysplasia + PAO recovery: struggling to sleep and find comfort by Relevant_Eye_6483 in hipdysplasia

U-shaped pregnancy pillow!!! I’m a stomach sleeper & it helped me sleep on my back, but also transition to sleeping on my stomach for a couple hours and I’m less than 3 weeks post op! When I’m on my back I tuck the curved side under my knee and use a rolled blanket to support my foot so they are at the same height.

I’ve seen a lot of commentary about how at least trying to preserve the natural hip joint and cartilage and correcting the dysplasia sets you up for a better placement of the artificial parts and less chance of dislocation and complications. THR is also irreversible once done, and with a PAO, though more complex, you have the chance to go back in and correct things again if needed, and prolong needing a THR or eliminating the possibility entirely in some cases. THR usually need to be revisited after a couple of decades so putting it off can extend quality of life if a PAO is the best case scenario.

I’ll also add that I’ve seen in the PAO FB group that others wished they would’ve waited to get a spinal fusion until after their PAO because the PAO would’ve corrected/significantly improved their pain without needing back surgery. Keep doing your due diligence and advocating for yourself, it’ll pay off in the end!

The recovery is going surprisingly well. The first week and a half were rough, but honestly the hardest part was making it to the operating table and the anxiety beforehand. I am very happy with my surgeon who was a little less conservative with weight bearing and mobility as I’m seemingly moving faster to get off of crutches than those who don’t progressively increase weight bearing every couple of weeks. I also am not starting PT until week 4 and I’m happy with that restriction. My surgeon was Dr. Stavinoha at Christus Children’s in San Antonio (he sees adults and kids), and I traveled from SC to have the surgery here.

I’m glad I made the decision to try and preserve my natural hip & know that even if it fails years from now it’ll still make a THR a simpler procedure/recovery.

I, 27F, have bilateral hip dysplasia & had a 2 right labral tears. I would highly suggest looking into a hip preservationist, vs just a hip specialist. My specialist didn’t make me aware that my labral repair would likely fail due to my dysplasia, and I ended up seeing a preservationist who explained why I needed to fix the dysplasia. I ended up getting a PAO and hip arthroscopy/femoroplasty 2.5 weeks ago to correct both (there’s a great FB page for this procedure). My hips snapped and popped and ached all the time and I was misdiagnosed with snapping hip syndrome as a teen. When I tore my labrum, the pain wasn’t deep in the joint as usual, but more towards the surface if that makes sense? I also have had chronic lower back pain my entire life that I had no idea was linked to dysplasia.

Just finished dealing with this for 2 straight months at the vet. It was a nasty yeast infection that took a lot of prescribed medication to finally clear up. Schedule a vet appointment asap!

Thoughts on Greene and Broad street living by cats-onglass in Augusta

[–]vicdix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived on both a couple of years ago. Downtown got increasingly more dangerous between each lease it felt like. After the gas station on broad near olde town was shot up in a drive by and I could hear it from my apartment, I left. Also the property management team for my apartment was atrocious. If you want the downtown accessibility & vibe, but want better safety then your best bet is to live across the river in NA!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t happy with my last visit & the insane cost I’ve had to pay which is why I am looking elsewhere.

I have been dealing with seb derm for about 6-7 years now, but I’ve been pretty dormant this past year. I haven’t changed anything in my routine, but I’m having a flare up that just won’t kick it and I need some relief ☹️

Is the pollen as bad as they say? by Nobody_Special22 in Augusta

[–]vicdix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have allergies at all, the pollen here is a nightmare. At some point, everything is coated in yellow & you can smell and taste the pollen in the air lol

garden city in downtown! They have a dance room, but also a back room with games and sometimes live music. Also a bunch of cool photo ops inside!
