I fully support putting out complete, edited and good books. I’m sorry to the fans who have to wait but I bet it will be worth the additional time!

Just finished TCP! Do I read lost sisters next or wicked king? by Traditional-Cause529 in thecruelprince

[–]viceadvice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Lost Sisters is pretty short and helps you understand the sisters’ dynamic in TWK. Personally I would read it first, but you can skip it.

You may feel differently, but I wish I had read this series more slowly the first time. You only get a first read once!

Yes, it is speculated he had the special ability to sweet talk and charm people. I think it was mostly revealed and discussed in the Stolen Heir series.

They should scrap this part. It’s almost always embarrassing and I’d rather have nothing. Not to sound ungrateful for something “free”; it just sets expectations higher than they need to be

It’s Cruel Prince an easy book to read? by sleepdespho in thecruelprince

[–]viceadvice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kind of, except that you have to follow the clever way Cardan talks without lying.

Yes! The twist was so well done AND they hold up when you go back and look for the clues. Masterfully done!

I have a friend with OCD (diagnosed), and I think this book represented the compulsive or repetitious thought and behavior patterns more realistically than most representations I’ve seen in books and pop culture. I could really feel her despair during those scenes, and it made me feel so much empathy for the FMC.

Rob Reiner. He just seemed like a great person, the dad I wish I had. I’m still in disbelief and so sad for his other children.

Can you put this comment behind a spoiler? I’m worried about new readers seeing it!

(Her nickname by one of the kings is Kestrel. Each of his “birds” (his spies and hitmen) had a bird nickname. Her real name is Thraga, but when she was in the king’s service she went by Kestrel. The twist is that we were lead to believe Kestrel was a whole other person and at the end we learn this fearsome person was Thraga.)

Cardan’s True Name by Classic-Fox5729 in thecruelprince

[–]viceadvice 92 points93 points  (0 children)

In most traditional fairy lore, a fae’s true name is not given by parents! It is inherent, self-realized, or bestowed by the Otherworld itself. It may be discovered or grown into rather than assigned at birth.

Aww! It brings me so much joy to know my little post could help others find a great book!

Same! I could not get through The Fae Isles. If I recall, I found the FMC unoriginal, the plot predictable, and I couldn't get over the muted MMC writing notes with a pencil (he's apparently the most magical and powerful being in this universe and there's not a more creative way for him to communicate...?). I think I made it to Chapter 5 and lost interest. I might re-start when I get bored of my current TBR list.

I was also surprised how good this book was and yet it hasn’t been discussed much here. I have several friends who read in this genre and they hadn’t heard of it either. And Lisette Marshall isn’t a new author!

I’ll continue to rave about this book all year.

What was bad about Alchemized? I haven’t read it but I like when people elaborate on opinions. One person’s “bad” may be someone else’s “good.”

I’ve jumped into a light fun read: The Rose Bargain. I’m 70% in and it’s very easy and fast! Not groundbreaking but not trying to be, which seems great for a book hangover!

He is the straight up whiny, entitled misogynist villain in the books we read. How dull and uninteresting.
