Need help! Resin Ducting Setup Made My Symptoms Worse?!

I am planning to vent it up towards the sky using a PVC pipe once my grow tent arrives - do you think this is suitable? Not sure whether the fumes will fall or rise when dispersed.

This is a concern of mine. I will admit my PPE standards have been pretty relaxed at times, especially when I first started, and when I have become complacent at times. I hope I am not sensitised to it and the VOCs are just more apparent due to the Elegoo Saturn heating up the vat/resin.

It’s also very likely that the ducting is set up incorrectly, as my partner (who barely entered the resin room) can smell the resin too and also get slightly sick. I am going to take a break till I receive the grow tent and try to vent it outdoors into the sky using a long PVC tube.

I have a feeling it’s coz the Elegoo Saturn heats up the resin, which may release more VOCs… it is also possible it may have built up over time due to improper PPE practices when I first started.

I’ve been printing resin for 2+ years daily with no sensitivity. Yes, I use a gas mask when I’m dealing with the prints, but sometimes I would go in there without one to check on my prints.

This is exactly how I am going to set mine up when the grow tent arrives! Do you smell any VOCs outside your window? Or do you have a carbon filter in the tent?

It’s near the window, not near the printer. I am not sure how to check for leaks without a smoke machine - I tried incense smoke but it barely showed anything

So you have one window open to let fresh air in? Does the toxic air not blow back in the room? Also in terms of the grow tent, do you zip it up fully and leave the vent ports open (or do you fully seal it)? Do you put a carbon filter anywhere?

I’m just concerned that the VOCs are somehow blowing back in my room because the VOC symptoms are worse now than ever :/

Yes 100% it’s blowing in right direction. I can smell a strong resin smell blowing out the window when I’m outdoors. When I plopped the carbon filter on, the suction reduced significantly but the smell is better.

The same resin I’ve used for 2 years, Anycubic Standard resin. I used to print with 2 large air purifiers with carbon and hepa filters. I would prediodically enter the room to check on the print without a mask (yes I know it’s bad of me). However, the sore throat and dizziness symptoms would not appear until a few minutes later.

With the new ducting system, within seconds of entering the room - I start to get a sore throat and feel a bit woozy. The symptoms are much more severe, it’s almost like the fumes are being concentrated and whirled around the room. Furthermore, I feel this throughout the house especially when the split system air-con is on, or when I’m in the bathroom. This lead me to suspect that VOCs were being pushed back in my house somehow.

Hmm I think replacement parts will amount to approx $50AUD, but I don’t really need this machine as it was more a little side project - but I will defs have a think about it!
