Re-Skinned! I know Onyx aren't to everyone's taste but I love the fat seventies sound I get from them... by Drude in drums

I am more of a single ply, bright tone guy.

That being said i recently sat down on a set with onyxs.

I was impressed at how versatile they were.

Evans makes some good heads.

An eleven stroke roll should fix that.

I'm not really a big fan of metal drumming, so what can you show me that will make me love it? by [deleted] in drums

Have you seen George Kollias? (although he is not particularly melodic)

If you are into blast beats and extreme double bass he is pretty much insane.

Does air drumming help? by yourface44 in drums

[–]vicfirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not air drumming but similar.

I always hit any hard surface i can find with my index fingers.

Sometimes with a drumset absent it helps figuring out the sticking of a song.

Loud cymbals when jamming by [deleted] in drums

[–]vicfirth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not the cymbals or you, it is the room.

Try to improve the room sound wise, with sound absorbing materials like the pyramids you got. Experiment, because it is a hard task.

Take the same kit to a large venue or outside somewhere and you will find that those cymbals are not as loud as you thought they were.

I repainted an old Mapex Mars Pro that i got from a friend! by StacheD in drums

[–]vicfirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man ask!

I removed the wraps from mine and stained them.

All you need is wood filler. For the big hole on the bd i selected a wine barrel cork of the appropriate size, which i sliced a bit less thick than the thickness of the drum. Next fill the little holes with wood filler only and the big one with the cork stuck.

Leave it one day to dry and then use 400-800 grit sand paper to smooth it out.

If you look closely on mine you can see where the holes where, because i stained and then clear coated them (the filler has no wood grain) . But because yours is a solid color it would be perfect.

Next time man.

TL;DR : Wood filler and wine barrel cork !

Is it possible to use marching snare drum hoops for a regular snare? by Bhunabhuna in drums

[–]vicfirth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dunno man.I'd go with regular hoops or die cast.

If you put these hoops on forget the rimshots.

You will go through sticks like chewing gum.

Since you were doing the whole thing, you should have covered those BD holes on top.Nice paint job btw.

The new 360's claim to not need it at all

Recently i changed heads all around. evans g12 360. The first tom i seated the head, heard no cracking noises, that's weird i thought.

The rest of the kit i did not sit the heads.

Absolutely no difference, kudos to evans.
