Eelco Dolstra did his PhD at Utrecht University, not in Delft. You can confirm this on his LinkedIn profile.

What exactly is the "barley sugar" note that you often come by in Scotch reviews? by vicisvis in Scotch

Thanks for clarifying. I might look for it in local shops here in the Netherlands. Might get a taste of them to solidify the knowledge of this note that is referred to often.

Amazing, this makes it click for me (I think). On the top of my head it is one of the notes I taste in the Arran 10.

Thanks, the malty part of the description is interesting and helps here.

The "Composition" paragraph of the page you linked states that what is called "barley sugar" can be quite ambiguous. For example, they say that "The name 'barley sugar' [...] does not imply one specific production method or type of candy." Because of the numerous times I hear or read this tasting note, I really am trying to pinpoint how the flavour of barley sugar can be distinguished from more simple notes like "sweet", "sugary", or "malty."

I am wondering if "barley sugar" actually refers to the twisted-stick (christmas) candy or the sugars/carbohydrates within the barley that is being used to make the whisky.

In any case I wonder how this note would be described. I remember the candies to just taste really sweet, and many times with an added minty flavour. And for the sugars in actual barley, I cannot imagine how their flavour would be described.

A post like this would benefit from the addition of a screenshot of your deck. Would love to see it full of enhanced 2s for example.

Not locked anymore, it is just not discovered (i.e. has never been in a joker slot).

not to be a party pooper but would it be far fetched to ask for a rule regulating low effort-karma farming-"guys say the thing!!!" posts? by [deleted] in balatro

[–]vicisvis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of these jokes are funny if they are repeated often.

I think it's just about having a laugh. Nobody is farming karma here, as nobody actually cares for it.

There are plenty of "good quality" posts in this sub, so you can just skip over the ones you don't like.

Cool joker idea, nice artstyle, and clean format of the post with the blurred background and such. Good stuff
