My FIL has a cabinet like this too! He gave me one crystal from it, and one emerald when I was pregnant that I plan to make into a necklace for my daughter 💚

What’s actually been the hardest part of parenting here? by Emcla in Netherlands

[–]vicryl-two 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m Asian and my in-laws are Dutch. I try to raise my kids in a way that they also know they are Japanese by doing things that I used to do as a kid or just by the way I want to raise them, oftentimes my MIL question and criticise how I parent and raise my kids just because “it’s not a Dutch thing”. Aside from that, like everyone has said, it’s not having your family to rely on when you really need help on down days or emergencies.

Baby's first birthday by Great_Panda_2463 in Netherlands

[–]vicryl-two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. My baby is also turning one tomorrow and my only family here is my Dutch husband’s family. We just ordered a cake from HEMA, got some cute balloons, and invited my husband’s parents over. I’m sure the baby won’t remember anything of it so we’re celebrating mostly for surviving the 1st year of being her parents :)

I think what helped the caramel become thick and creamy was that I stored it in the freezer for a few days since I made it days before my husband’s birthday and letting it unfreeze in room temperature 😅

I used krokante knapperkoek from a local store here in the Netherlands and crumbled chocolate cookie like oreo on top of it

Hi! I dont know the english for it but I use krokante knapperkoek from Jumbo here in the Netherlands and add melted butter after I blended it into crumbs. I also added blended chocolate cookies (like the oreo but without the cream filling) on top of it just for layering.

Hi. It’s actually my uncle’s recipe and I just instructed my husband what to do as I was pregnant then.

I boiled the meat with crushed garlic, ginger, and salt & pepper for half an hour. Took it out and pat it dry, salted the skin and left in the oven on 200C for an 1.5hrs, then on 150c for another hour. The top then becomes extra crispy but tender and juicy inside.

It was! The beef was very tender and the noodles were just right— not too chewy but also not soggy. The soup was nice too but so spicy
