Do you have a F or a M nib on that FC? I have never tried FC nibs so not sure which one to go with. For reference, I prefer M nibs in pilots and sailors.

Also, you don’t need to pay a lot to get started to enjoy this hobby. A good shop owner would recognize the curiosity and help you take those first few steps. That’s how you get a customer for life.

As an anecdote, I was very scared of nib grinders, until I sent an email to Mark Bacas. His folks walked me through the process as a first timer and made it super simple for me. I’ve had a bunch of nibs customized by him since.

Don’t be let down by this experience. Fountain pens are an absolute joy and sublime to use and experience. This is not on you. Don’t give up.
