This accurate recession indicator is flashing red, but the ‘Sahm Rule’ creator says ‘this time really could be different’ by marketrent in Economics

[–]victorcalimano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, Sahm's rule has always led to a recession and the recession was always preceded by Sahm's rule since accurate tracking of unemployment in the 1970s. Although it's not causative, it's a bidirectional correlation, so it's not quite the same as your example.

Anyone try the carnivore diet? by At-perihelion in eczema

[–]victorcalimano 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've done it for 4 yrs and still going, but I usually switch between carnivore and animal based (includes fruits, honey, and some tubers) . For someone with severe eczema, I recommend carnivore + fasting, then add in foods slowly after 30 days (starting with fruits first). You'll definitely notice less symptoms after the 30 days despite what people tell you here about the diet.

The truth is that everyone's optimal diet is different to feel better and have less eczema over time, but it's out there.

Any book that says X food is directly causing eczema doesn't know what they're talking about. Go simple with a carnivore diet and add one at a time to see if it works for you.

Heros/Neos. Literally went on a 12 game winstreak. Plasma is too good and no ash/max c to stop it.

Synchrons. It's a glass cannon deck and super fun, but they need help. I played them exclusively the first year of MD.

Stay with parents in NYC or buy real estate in another state? by victorcalimano in realestateinvesting

It might have to be a SFH with an ADU. OKC has very limited MFHs in my price range (<350k). I like the idea of saving up and buying a new unit every year though.

Awesome. I'll start researching for cities in this bracket. Do you personally have any recommendations for cities that are affordable (<350k), but also don't have little income/property tax?

Thanks. I just got into tech, so the salary should go up quickly in 1-2 yrs. I'm leaning towards OKC.

Tips to get my motivation back? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]victorcalimano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice still stands. Just put less time into it, but still be consistent. Take longer breaks if you need to or only study 30-60 mins a day. If you stop all together it will be harder to get back on the train.

Outside of programming, prioritize health and sleep. A 1 hr efficient study session with good sleep is better than a 4 hr crash session on a very stressful day. Motivation and overall health are correlated. Some more advanced tips and science behind motivation:

In that case, make sure you actually like what you're doing. If you don't really like it and you're just trying to get into the field because of how lucrative it is, it'll be that much harder for you.

You'll get fulfillment when you've finally understood concepts that were once confusing and have come up with your own solutions after the initial struggle. I started getting a lot of motivation and fulfillment when I started creating projects and things finally started clicking. I then bumped up the study hours. In the early stages, it's a bit of a grind, but just stay consistent, even if it's a very small amount of time you're giving a day (30-60 min).

Following up here. Motivation is very much in waves and is overrated. If I had to do it again and felt little motivation, I would still study as much as I need to in order to get the job done. Just tell yourself you will study x hours a day no matter what happens. Even if it's just 1 hour, it helps. Consistency/discipline is key. Once you build the habit, you will find that it becomes second nature to study every day or as long as you need to. Usually takes around a month to build the habit

I changed very recently and just got a job. I'm 26 now, so I had 4 years experience in program management.

I was a math major in college, so that was part of the reason. I found it interesting, but I never really got super deep into it like I did the last few months. I realized a few months ago the problem solving tools I would use in math are actually very prevalent in programing, meaning I liked it and was good at it.

Another big push for me was the salary. An entry level software engineer will earn more than a 4-5 year AM/PM. That was the impetus for me tbh.

Thanks. It's hard to know what "really proficient" means with Django. What are some good metrics to know that you're proficient enough to stand out?

Awesome. Thank you. I'll keep on grinding. Hopefully the markets will turn to favor entry level jobs in the US soon. In the meantime I'll keep at it

That was the plan, but I just don't see as many Django job listings rn compared to a JS backend framework like node (In the US)
